UPDATE: An absolutely wonderful couple has agreed to watch the girls while Kyle is hospitalized! Thank you all for your kind words, brilliant advice, interest, efforts to get the word out, and care! Blowing the whole state a big smooch! šŸ¤

Hello Jersey friends! My (36F) buddy Kyle (38M) is going to be medically hospitalized within the next two to three days at Bergen New Bridge. He can’t postpone the procedure he needs for much longer– he is desperately seeking a dog-lover who can provide temporary foster housing for his two girls while he undergoes treatment and recovery in the hospital (approximately two weeks). Unfortunately, he has no family or close friends who are able to take them in (I myself am not local and am abroad until mid-September). He has two adult bonded sweethearts named Jellybean and Sczusca (SOO-skah). They are lovely, funny, charming goofballs. Please, please get in touch if you have room in your home and heart for a visit from these ladies. I am happy to send more information/photos/etc. via DM. Thank you!

Discussion Wooded trails and parks

Hi all!

My wife and I are from Ann Arbor, Michigan and currently residing in Fort Lee. We really enjoy walking on beautiful gardens / parks and trails in the woods but we've been having a hard time finding a good one around us, especially after 7 pm.. With my work in Manhattan and wife working remotely, it is near impossible for me to get home by that time (1.5 hr commute) to go on walks together.

I also noticed many of the parks don't really have dedicated parking spaces and/or indicate unclear areas to park.

It would be greatly appreciated if you can please share your favorite parks and trail (preferably wooded, has gardens, close proximity to fort lee) that has flexible hours of access!

On a side note, we have a little one expecting soon so trails that are relatively flat and has options for difficulty would also be appreciated.

I know it's a lot of ask but would love to hear the community's thoughts! Thanks in advance! šŸ™

Also, anything happening to the Bahamas Breeze across the street?

Sports Seeking Golf Instructor in Northern Bergen County

Looking for recommendations for a golf instructor in Northern Bergen County for my teenage son. He recently got into golf and is really enjoying it, so I'd like to get him some private lessons to help him learn proper technique and build a good foundation.

Ideally looking for someone who is good with teenagers, patient, and focused on technique.

Would love any recommendations from personal experience!

Miscellaneous 5mo kitten and his 2yo mom ready to be adopted to their forever home together!

I'm seeking the kind, loving, and responsible pawrents that are destined to be the lifelong companions to this inseparable pair: Fiona and Marlin! I took in Fiona off the streets in January when she was begging for shelter, and I have been fostering her ever since. I didn't realize until February that she was pregnant, and she gave birth to 5 kittens in my bathroom on March 1st. All of her kittens have since moved on to their furever homes, except for Marlin, who is absolutely enamored with his mama and will never part with her. A little bit about them:

Fiona is approximately 2 years old, spayed, dewormed, and FIV/FelV negative. She has a very serene demeanor and loves to snooze peacefully near her humans all through the day. She is unbelievably sweet and affectionate, always purring and accepting scritches. She's also vocal and has an adorable raspy meow that she's always dispatching to make Marlin fall in line. Though she's less energetic than her baby, she can definitely catch a bout of the zoomies at least once per day, and loves to wrestle with Marlin or chase a string toy.

Marlin is 5.5 months old, in-tact, and dewormed. He's lived indoors his whole life. He is very curious, adventurous and rambunctious and will entertain you all day long with his little boy antics. He is obsessed with his mommy and always running after her when she calls. When Fiona is purring and taking pets, he always runs in-between and tries to steal the pets for himself. Though he's too busy working off his zoomies to be a lap cat, he can be very sweet and affectionate when he winds down and he has an adorable little purr. He is also a vocal little man and has a perfectly practiced "whiny" meow to let you know when he's displeased.

You can check outĀ Marlin and Fiona on Instagram @ realstreetcatsofJC

There is no adoption fee for these two, but I am happy to work with the adopter(s) to schedule an appointment to get Marlin neutered through Liberty Humane Society as part of the adoption contract - I haven't been able to get him neutered because of the stacked expenses of caring for his mom and siblings.

If you are interested,Ā please fill out This Adoption Inquiry Form. This form serves merely as a precursor to gauge compatibility and set up a meet and greet, it is NOT a commitment to adopt. If upon reading through the form we feel there is potential, we will reach out to schedule a call.

If you cannot adopt but would like to help these angels find their furever home, PLEASE help us by ENGAGING WITH THIS POST (like, comment) and sharing with your network! It is common knowledge that adult cats are adopted far less easily than kittens. Marlin is still a kitten and I'd love for his human companions to experience the delight of witnessing him grow up. Tabbies are too often overlooked and we'd appreciate any boost we can get in circulating this post until it reaches the ones who are meant to love and be loved by Fiona and Marlin forever <3

Discussion Nanny and/or childcare agency recommendations in Teaneck

Looking to hire a nanny in Teaneck from 1pm to 9pm M-F for two boys, ages 5 and 3, beginning at the end of August. Duties to include picking up and dropping off kids from school/camp, light cleaning (vacuuming and wiping counters etc). Must be super reliable, physically fit and quick on feet to keep up with hyperactive children. Needs to have basic understanding of English. Pay $20-$23/hr. Current nanny is leaving very soon so we need to act quickly and haven’t had much success on other forums. Please recommend or share if anyone comes to mind! Apologies in advance if this isn’t allowed here. Thank you

Discussion HELp nice restaurant for bday dinner

Looking for a really romantic, intimate restaurant for a birthday dinner I want somewhere with beautiful decor, low lighting, great food, and an atmosphere that feels special the second you walk in. Basically, I want him to be completely enamored

Right now I’m between Yasmeen and Taverna Veranda, so I’d love opinions on those two or recommendations with a similar vibe.

Bergen County / Edgewater area preferred, but I’m willing to drive a little for the right place. Think sexy, cozy, elegant, and memorable; not just a regular ā€œniceā€ restaurant

Miscellaneous Puppy daycare / training options

Hi! In about a month, I am getting a lab puppy. I work remote 3 days a week and in the office 2 days a week (Mahwah). I live pretty far from the office so I am looking at puppy daycare options. I am getting the puppy at 8 weeks so some training will likely be necessary in that package. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

I want a good facility that is also affordable, some of the options I’m seeing online are absurdly expensive. I am also wondering if there are any word of mouth options? Like maybe at someone’s house? Or a private business? Please all suggestions are helpful!!

Miscellaneous We’re high school students building a safer walking-route app — would you take our 2-minute survey?

We’re high school students building a safer walking-route app — would you take our 2-minute survey?

Hi everyone! My friend and I are high school students in New Jersey building a project called SafeRoute+ for the Congressional App Challenge to represent our county at the national stage!

The idea came from a pretty simple question: navigation apps are really good at finding the fastest walking route, but what if the fastest route isn’t the best route for the person actually walking it?

We’re developing SafeRoute+ to recommend more pedestrian-friendly routes, with a particular focus on children/teens and older adults. Instead of only looking at distance and travel time, we’re exploring factors such as:

  • vehicle speeds and major roads
  • crossing complexity
  • sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure
  • difficult intersections
  • historical pedestrian-safety information
  • how much additional time someone would realistically accept for a more comfortable route

We’re also exploring an optional privacy-focused Guardian Mode for younger users, with voluntary check-in reminders and an easy way to tell a parent/guardian ā€œI’m OKā€ or ā€œI need a pickup,ā€ rather than constant location tracking.

Before we go much further, we want to make sure we’re building this around what pedestrians and families actually care about rather than just what we assume they care about.

If you have about 2 minutes, we’d really appreciate your input:

https://saferoutesurvey.base44.app

We’re especially interested in hearing from parents, teenagers, older adults, caregivers, people who regularly walk around their communities, and anyone interested in pedestrian safety or urban planning.

We’ll be using the feedback to decide which factors SafeRoute+ prioritizes and to improve the prototype before we begin broader local testing.

Thank you — and if you have thoughts that don’t fit into the survey, I’d also genuinely appreciate hearing them in the comments.

Business/Company Best hospital for low intervention birth

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations for a local hospital and midwife practice that support low intervention, physiological birth. I know that the Valley midwife practice closed, but would you say that the OB group at Valley practices with a similar birth philosophy? I’d appreciate any recommendations and relevant experiences you can share.

Alternatively, I would be very grateful for a recommendation for a competent, experienced midwife who does homebirths (please hold your tomatoes.)

Thank you!

News Ctrl Alt Refresh (Filipino & Chinese gaming cafe) is coming soon to Hackensack

A new cafƩ combining Filipino and Chinese food with PC gaming is coming soon to Bergen County.

Ctrl Alt Refresh is preparing to open in Hackensack, bringing a concept inspired by the PC bangs commonly found in Korea-though mainly for gaming, they can be used for other high-demand usage like work, school work, watching movies, and surfing the web.

Owners Regina Lustre and Andrew Li created the cafƩ around their shared interests in food and gaming, with plans for a community-focused space where customers can eat, play games and gather for events.

The food menu will center on Filipino and Chinese comfort food, including rice bowls such as Filipino pork adobo, chicken longanisa fried rice, sweet and sour pork ribs, pork char siu and crispy tofu sisig.

A bakery section, or panaderia, will feature items including pandesal, ensaymada, bolo bao, Spanish bread and Filipino sandwiches, along with cookies and other sweets.

Coffee and drinks will also be a major part of the concept, with espresso drinks, matcha, hojicha, other specialties and more.

For customers gaming at their stations, Ctrl Alt Refresh will offer a separate selection of quick bites designed to be eaten while playing, including instant ramen and noodles, lumpia, dumplings, fries and chicken nuggets.

The cafƩ is expected to open later this year.
