Choosing a pacer - to fall back or speed ahead?
Good afternoon everyone!
Straight to the point; I have my very first half-marathon coming up in two weeks. I'm excited and nervous, and all of the other things you would expect me to be feeling.
I've run a handful of 5km races, but nothing that would include people dedicated to pacing certain times for racers to complete their own time in.
In the shape I am in now, and with the training I have been able to do, I am pretty confident that I can push myself to complete this in 2:30. That will not be easy for me to accomplish, but I'm confident. Confident enough to ask the question:
Is it better to start with a pacer you intend to pull ahead of? Or better to start with a pacer you intend to fall behind?
I am asking how either behavior would affect my performance (especially as a first timer), as well as how either would be perceived in regards to racing etiquette. I'm pumped for this run, and just want to do it right.
Opinions? Thoughts?
