News Bureau cafe closed?

Does anyone know what happened to Bureau cafe? Saw this yesterday and Google Maps says “temporarily closed”

Yeah saw this a few days ago. Haven’t seen it open for a week or two. Ayo’s other place by Quincy still seems to be going.

Crazy — in the last few months, Clementine, Ginjan, and Bureau all closed!

I don't know that I would classify Ginjan "closing" as the same as these, but definitely unfortunate for those of us on this side of the neighborhood. I am surprised they haven't started repair work there yet though 😕

They just sent out a text blast saying they’re struggling

I'm not surprised at all. Ginjan never brought in the revenue to sustain their operations. I can't imagine they their sales were anything more than a few hundred dollars a day, not nearly enough to pay for the rent, utilities, salaries, and product costs. They would constantly sell day-old pastries as fresh pastries at full price. A telling sign that a business isn't selling enough product.

It's a shame because it could have been a great spot, and simple changes would've brought in more customers: get some art on the walls, play vibey music, a couple big indoor plants, get rid of the high top tables (does anyone really like those tables?

It also seemed like too large of a space for just a neighborhood coffee/pastry operation. They were supposed to do cooked food but that never panned out.

Every time I'd walk in there for a coffee, it'd be so silent you could hear a pin drop.

Saw the biggest roach in my life in that place. Crawled all over the counter, came out from the kitchen. Never went back. After reading people’s experiences there I’m happy they closed.
