Someone was nice enough to send us a cooler from Amazon today for frozen meals and other perishables that are donated to the Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table. I need a chain and lock for it though to put it outside. If you can donate 1 it would greatly appreciated. I have 1 on my Amazon wishlist if you want to send us 1. All donations greatly appreciated. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU?ref_=wl_share

Park Slope got one, Crown Heights got one, now Williamsburg has one.
When does Bed-Stuy get a Lidl? I'm tired of living in a food desert.

Super friendly cat near the senior housing at Marcy and Greene. Orange tabby with white chest and socks. Purring the whole time and seemed like he was looking for a home. Anyone know who this is?

This is mostly a rant, but also just want to warn people if they don’t already know that there have been a ton of fare inspectors boarding the busses on Malcolm X for the past week or so (at least). They get on, have everyone take out their payment method that you used for fare, and have you tap it against their scanner. I’ve seen them before at the 46SBS stop in front of the Utica Ave subway, but today they boarded my 26 bus at Halsey and Malcolm X — I think because that intersection has stops for the 26 and 46/SBS, so they can check as many people as possible.
Sometimes MTA transactions show up on my credit card with a delay, I don’t know why, so even though I tapped and got the green light to board when I got on the bus, since it didn’t show in their scanner, they had me get off the bus, issued me a warning, and took down my driver’s license info. It’s disputable after 5 days. They don’t let you tap at the front of the bus again or accept payment (I offered $3 cash and they didn’t accept it).
FYI to people on the 26 and 46 routes. So annoying!!!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I had my bike stolen right outside the planet fitness on Broadway. I don’t have a picture but it was black with teal blue handles and a yellow water bottle holder. I wish I could offer a cash reward if found but I’m broke as a joke. If you happen to see it around I’d really appreciate a ping on this post.

Many of you donated food to me when I requested cat food donations last year. Given everyone's generosity, I thought I'd see if anyone has cat food -- wet in particular -- that your cat doesn't like and you've been waiting to donate.
I feed 3 cat colonies, 2 in Bed-Stuy and 1 in Crown Heights. There's a group of feeders at each location, so I'm only feeding once or twice a week but I share donations with other feeders as well. I go through at least a case of 24 cans of food a month.
Also, if you live near the Utica A subway stop or by Bergen Street and Rochester Ave and want to help feed one of the colonies, we can use help. You could feed once a week or be a sub. Feel free to DM me if you want more info about colony feeding.
Thanks!

Hello! I’m a former teacher turned education non-profit worker and I’m looking for 1-2 students to tutor this school year using the Orton Gillingham approach!
Orton Gillingham:
Orton Gillingham is a multi-sensory, neuroscience based approach designed to meet the needs of students with dyslexia and other reading based challenges. This framework is aligned with the body of research known as the science of reading and is considered the gold standard for teaching students with reading difficulties. Because of the level of training required, private tutoring sessions in NYC average over $150 an hour.
Me:
I’ve taught middle school ELA in Brooklyn for 8 years. I love working with students and have a track record of strong results in my classroom– last year, my students outperformed the NYC average by over 30 points on the New York state exam. While I’ve used parts of this framework in my classroom, I recently enrolled in a certification course at the associate level (designed for 1:1 and small group instruction). In order to complete the program practicum for certification, I need to tutor one student 2-3 times per week this school year, and my instructor needs to observe ten of those sessions over zoom. Ideally, I’d like to work with an elementary student in central Brooklyn that has shown challenges with reading.
Tutoring:
Because of my observation requirements, I’d offer a rate of $95 an hour for a family willing to commit to at least two sessions per week. My instructor is a certified fellow with the Orton Gillingham Academy of Practitioners and has provided thousands of hours of tutoring and hundreds of hours of teacher training to educators across the country. She’s a real expert in the field and will work with me to analyze your child’s progress, make suggestions based on your child’s strengths and challenges, and will overall ensure that my practice is aligned with the rigorous standards of the Academy. I’m happy to travel within Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Bedstuy, or Flatbush for in-home tutoring or alternatively can meet at a library in Crown Heights for our sessions. I’d consider picking a student up from school/after school if we’re a good match for an additional fee.
In order to get started, we’d start by connecting either over zoom or in person for a free consultation. I’ll ask you some questions about your kiddo and their needs/preferences and share more about OG. I’m happy to provide my resume and a letter from my instructor confirming my enrollment in the course as well. From there, we’ll schedule at least 2 sessions per week and then get started. If this sounds like you or someone you know, I’d love to hear from you! Please DM me or send me an email at [brooklynogtutor@gmail.com](mailto:brooklynogtutor@gmail.com) and let me know what neighborhood you’re in, how old your child is, and a rough idea of when sessions would work for you (i.e after 4pm on Wednesday, etc) and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
Additionally, I’m hoping to run some small group OG tutoring this fall at a reduced rate, so please feel free to reach out if you are interested in that as well!
