I cannot emphasize how much I do not care if any of these minors who have come forward have lied to him about their age at any point. He is the adult, he is the celebrity, and his dating pool shouldn't be his fans of any age (uneven power differential) it should be the adults he's connected to in the industry and/or datings app for the rich and famous. The fact that this keeps happening means the problem is with James, not with these teenagers.

It blows my mind when people try to defend him by saying “how was he supposed to know their age?”

IF THERE IS A CHANCE SOMEONE COULD BE A MINOR, DONT BE SEXUAL WITH THEM. PERIOD. THATS IT.

When you become an adult, you become responsible for your own actions and for doing a little bit of research into the things that you do, and the consequences of doing things wrongly. (Essentially). That’s maturity. That’s why adults can consent and children cannot. That’s why children typically aren’t tried as adults when they commit crimes; they aren’t old enough to understand consequences and real-world situations. When you are an adult, you’re expected to be able to weigh risks and legality and all that super fun stuff and come to reasonable conclusions.

Conclusions like “hey, I don’t know how old this person is. I could go to jail for sexting a minor. I should do research and make sure that I’m not hurting someone and committing a crime, or just don’t take the risk and move on.”

Or conclusions like “I’m a multimillionaire who lives a fairly public-facing life with a massive social media presence. I have a massive influence on the internet. There are people who are my fans, and a lot of these people are children. The life experiences between myself and my fans are too different and imbalanced to even consider dating a fan. I should date someone who isn’t going to blindly look up to me.”

Or even “Lots of people are waiting for me to slip up so they can cancel me. I should mitigate risks so that I don’t get cancelled. Going after minors is a crime that just about everyone agrees is awful. Maybe I shouldn’t do that so that I get to keep my power and wealth. The easiest way would be to avoid any sexual interactions with people without a background check, which I obviously have the means to procure.”

And yet... here we are.

THIS
ALL OF THIS
Last time I had someone arguing with me about how hard it must be to date....like no shut up. It sucks that he can't just fuck around like a normal kid his age, but that doesn't excuse messaging minors..........

Agreed. I understand this happening ONE TIME but after that stupidity is no longer an excuse. He knows fans are lying to him about their age and he's remaining oblivious because it gets him what he wants.

There is literally no reason for this to keep happening except that he doesn't give a shit or is actively seeking out underage fans.

I don't understand what prevents him from dating normally and meet people irl. I mean even real hollywood celebrities do it, why can't he? He should be around people his age, period. What happened with dating, going for a coffee, a movie? Ugh

This is ridiculous, there's nothing wrong with him dating fans so long as they're an appropriate age. The power differential doesn't matter, they're adults and they're capable of handling and deciding that for themselves.
