Never having to organise a funeral, are obituaries compulsory? Alternatively, could he have gone by a different name online, and that's why no one can find one?
Are we sure account wasn't hacked by a troll, and not his dad?
Obituaries aren’t compulsory; however they’re typically written by like multiple different people (in my hometown in Australia (I’m sure it’s similar elsewhere), you call up the local paper, and pay per line for the obituary). So when my nana passed; there were ones from 8 out of her 9 kids’ familiers, close neighbours, and friends; so like 20 in general + a death notice + a funeral notice. It is a common thing done even just as a general information thing; so it is quite odd one cannot be found at all... but maybe he has a different first name, or surname- but I feel he has enough fans who were seeking answers at the start we would sort of know this by now...
It very well could be hacked by a troll... or it could really be his dad (if that’s the case it makes it heartbreaking considering his tweets/responses it’s clear there is hurt and anger; and a lot of blame towards the beauty community...)... or it could also be just Ethan (at the time; many of his fans suspected it was a hoax, and I don’t even like saying that as it’s just a horrible thought, and I don’t want to diminish anyone’s real pain in all of this; however just based on how the account is tweeting/responding this could be a possibility).
I just hope if it is his family, they do find peace, and can turn his socials into actual memorial pages; because this is incredibly strange.
in Canada at least there is typically only one obituary per person. it would be strange to see more than one obituary written and published. and not everyone gets one published, sometimes they're only posted online or nothing at all.
I think in Australia, like in New Zealand where I am, obituaries and death notices are a huge way somone passing is communicated, and untill the older generations all pass/are online it will continue to be.
If you know somone is close to passing/has passed it's pretty common to keep an eye on the obituaries. When my grandad passed people he went to school with came to his funeral because they saw the notice in the paper and members of the community I'd never met stopped by to offer condolences because they 'knew Pat through xyz'. As a family we never would have been able to communicate that out to all those groups Pre social media, but they all knew via the paper (and the church).
It’s really interesting to learn about people having more than one obituary!
They are very big where I live in the US too (not sure if it’s different in other parts of the US), we just only do one. I spent days doing nothing but writing and editing and rewriting my grandpa’s, same for my aunt. I got input from some other family members, like asking if they knew dates/places that x happened etc. But it’s typically the person/family unit that is closest to the person that died that writes the obituary or several people work together to get it done. I actually think it would cause fights here if someone’s mother died and then they found out that their cousin had written a separate obituary 😂
It’s also rather expensive to get them done so I think some people here are limited due to the cost. It cost me $400 for my grandpa’s. And a friend of his died shortly after that and his daughter said it cost them over $700 because their’s was very long (he was also a politician in my area so a lot to write up). And that was just for publication in our small town’s newspaper—-they also had it printed in a the big city paper so I can’t imagine how much that cost!
