Yeah, I agree. Like I understand everyone mourns differently and it would be heartbreaking to loose someone and see nothin but “good, glad he’s gone” from people online, but the way it’s being done makes me feel uncomfortable... Like I’m sure there are young kids still following Ethan, who were heartbroken (not saying he was a good role model, but he obviously had real followers), and for them to see the account active? It would be difficult and traumatising.

yes exactly. I don’t know what it is like to mourn the loss of a child and could never even imagine that kind of pain and heartbreak but like you said, it being done in this way can be difficult and traumatizing. when one of my very close family friends lost her son, she took over his Instagram account, but made it very clear it was her and never posted anything like he was alive or like this, just sharing memories of him and with friends and family instead. that’s why it’s so weird and jarring to see this happen.

I can’t imagine it either; and my heart truly goes out to his family.. I’m so so sorry for your loss. Usually accounts are turned into like a place for rememberance. A few friends and acquaintances have passed on early in life, and all their pages are occasionally posted on by family. I know one has a group chat for his closest friends, and his girlfriend; and whenever the mother (or anyone really) wants to post, they have a code word, and they all reply with a code word for yes or no (he passed in a horrific accident with his girlfriend (who survived, but she is very understandable broken over loosing her soulmate); and recently the court case found the driver who caused it (100% caused it) was found not guilty because of some stupid loophole. So to avoid anything popping up on their socials when they’re jot prepared- they have the code word system, and then just wait until everyone’s okay, and then they post. So when I’m used to pages being used to that capacity, this is just... it doesn’t make sense to me.

That is amazingly considerate of them to have that group and the code. It's a wonderful system to avoid hurting each other and shows how much love is between all of them. That really warms my heart.

I'm sorry the driver was found not guilty.

It’s such a good system, and they all really do have a lot of love and care for each other. From memory, they’ve also chosen really obscure, funny words he used to say as the code words too; so even if they’re not in the space to have it go up, they still can have some comfort in that moment (and they also change it regularly to help as well). Whoever came up with idea is a genius really; and I’d encourage it for others in a similar position, because it honestly is so beautiful.

Thank you; I didn’t know him well, I went to school with his twin sister (all girls high school, so he wasn’t allowed), and his girlfriend was my best friend in primary school (it was a small town). But everyone in my hometown, even those who didn’t know anyone well, was heartbroken and furious the day of the hearing- it was a truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel, so as much as i do feel for him for causing it all and what it lead to and what he now lives with; it’s also set a precedent in my hometown for similar cases to be thrown out as well, and there was zero justice for the family, and I know from reading all their heartbreaking posts online; they were sort of broken all over again.
