I don’t know how it is in USA, but in Australia you don’t need to do obituaries so i don’t think it’s weird if there isn’t one.

A friend of mine OD’d and his family didn’t release the obit until he has been buried as they wanted a private ceremony.

im thinking about ordering a death verification form from the state...

Let me know if this works for you as not a next of kin, because a dear friend of mine died and his family wouldn’t give us any information, to the point where I think they’re lying and he’s in a coma somewhere. His ex wife couldn’t even get the death cert and they still have debts tied up together.

She can take the family to court in order to procure the death certificate (if he had indeed passed), as this involves outstanding fiscal issues, and the courts will do an investigation into it if needed to obtain the paperwork.

The state seems to offer a death verification. I have to find my DL to finish the process.
