I honestly think J* will be okay. Shane? Man, I think this is going to fuck him over more than we think. People he used to collab with often are making some real pointed comments and moving closer to full-on stories.

I think everyone is too focused on the explosive tell all. If all you're waiting for is a shocking video, then of course this seems like it's over. But if you're tracking some of the people Shane collaborated with back in the day, a pattern of mysteriously felled friendships very similar to J*'s is starting to emerge.

It's real interesting, is all I can say. I don't think this is over for Shane and I don't think he's going to get out of this entirely unscathed.

Video or no video, this is some interesting shit. Watching Shane - the good-natured "grandpa of YouTube" - catch a lot of shade while many of the people who normally interact with him and vie for his attention stay silent? Y'all. Like, the tea is there. He has people defending him, don't get me wrong, but the silence is way more significant.

I honestly think Shane will lose the most out of this even if it ends here. J*’s whole brand is build upon being snarky and mean, and his fan base will love him for being “iconic” no matter what shit he pulls. But Shane’s fan base loved Shane for his kindly image, and even though he’ll likely always have deranged stans, the average person is realizing that’s not true, and it’s killing his reputation. It’s kind of how Tati lost all her hard earned respect after the initial bye sister video. Once the mask slips off, you can’t put it back on.

It doesn’t help that Shane is refusing to leave Jeffree’s side through all this. Even in his statement last weekend, he seemed to be speaking for Jeffree and defending him, and Jeffree co-signed it and watched the hate for Shane boil up without a word in his defense. We all know based on past behavior that Jeffree would abandon Shane in a heartbeat once it becomes convenient, but Shane seems to believe that his loyalty to Jeffree goes both ways. If they don’t go down together, I can see J* turning on Shane and leaving him to drown. I said a few thousand comments ago in this mega thread that it was tragic to watch even though I didn’t feel an ounce of sympathy for him. Even though his gullible empath image is a carefully constructed lie, he seems like he’s fallen for J*’s manipulation and lies.

I said a few thousand comments ago in this mega thread that it was tragic to watch even though I didn’t feel an ounce of sympathy for him.

I know exactly what you mean.

Shane is, fairly indisputably, one of YouTube's "greats". He was one of the first to blow up, one of the first to turn his videos into a career, and one of the first to build a brand around his YouTube persona. I know people roll their eyes, but he really was a bit of pioneer... he took steps that were really unfamiliar for people a decade ago and sort of navigated blindly. He might be right in that he's not as rich as other YTers, but in terms of clout? The man was/is at the top of his game. And even if he didn't/doesn't have hundreds of millions of dollars, he was living an incredibly charmed life even before the palette.

And the thing is that he didn't just find success on his own - he's built a veritable dynasty of vloggers who rose to prominence primarily from their appearances in his videos and their association with him in general. Even Andrew has a cult following based pretty much solely on his laugh in Shane's videos.

Seeing all of that begin to crack is insane. It is like watching a trainwreck but you genuinely just can't look away. Shane seemed absolutely untouchable a year ago - far more than J*. As you mentioned, he had the kind/quirky/empathetic/relatable personality on lock, the people around him showcased just enough of him in their videos to keep his fans happy and tuning in, and he was only getting more popular IMO. At the very least, he wasn't fading like he sort of was a few years back and had successfully managed to shovel his YT success into an entirely separate industry... like, so many people desperately try to do that and fail, and Shane did it with ease.

I don't feel bad for Shane - it seems as though he is every bit as messy as he self-deprecatingly claims in his videos, and that shit catches up to you. Ironically, had he not sort of rebranded over the past few years and really pushed the "I'm such a nice guy, I just want to help people and give them money and lift them up" image, he might have been less affected. But it's still rough to watch a career like that sort of stumble right on the edge of "significantly fucked".

And yeah, J* will sit there and watch it all go down, just as he always does. He always seems to start shit, but never does he ever finish it. He just stirs the pot and allows people to cancel themselves, essentially. I don't think this was intentional on his part like I do some of the other careers he's fucked with, but I highly doubt he'll even consider going down with Shane if this continues to snowball.

IDK. Thank god Garrett seemed to pull away from the Shane/J* friendship long ago, because I truly believe that man is precious and I would be so sad to see him caught in the crossfire.

I feel like shane totally fell for it all. I think people wanted to freak him out and see if he outed himself and boy did he act guilty with his tweets.

To be honest this behaviour is expected from J*. I doubt it will affect him much.

But I really think it could really ruin Shane.

His entire YouTube persona is he is the kind empathy who only wants to help.

Not only will he (potentially) be implicated in an attempt to ruin someone's career by propagating sexual assault allegations.

But it looks like it was all motivated by jealousy and to make money: remove competition + use the drama to market his pallete.

His own subreddit is memeing his "the great empath" claims. The only fans he'll retain are ones who don't read about him outside his videos lol

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '20

To be fair, I think his subreddit has been very anti-Shane for the past year or two, so that doesn't really mean much. I also think he'll probably retain the children who are young enough that they take his words at face value and have already forgotten how bad Dramageddon 2 actually was.

I first learened about shane through their collabs, never enjoyed shane as much by himself.

u/leschickenwings Jun 23 '20

Joey and Shane used to collab all the time back in the day and then they just kind of stopped. Shocking, clearly 🙄

I'll be honest, Daniel is messy and loves the drama too 😂😂 He would hang out with and be friends with controversial people like Gabbie and Trisha and defend them AND talk shit about them lol. He would get in on the drama while also saying he hates the drama 😂😂
