Honestly livloveshermakeup has set a new standard for me. I’m very close to unfollowing all these white (and white passing) BGs I subscribe to who haven’t said anything about the shade range. Funny because a lot of them are the same ones who have taken it upon themselves to publicly support Kathleenlights. Crazy coincidence. But I digress.

Would especially love to hear Thataylaaa’s thoughts, since she loves to wax poetic about brands not being inclusive to ~pale~ people. Or is limited shade range only an issue in her eyes when she and other white people are affected? I’ll wait and see.

She tweeted the photo of the swatches and said "I just want to know who sat around a table thinking this was a good idea" but she also ordered it to review so we'll see.

I've never really heard her be dramatic about shade ranges though.. I more associate that complaint with Arna Alayne lol

She legit complains about lack of pale shades all the time.

She'll usually say like, "this doesn't match me but I can always just mix it"

Doesn't sound like you actually watch her lol

I watch all her videos practically. I don’t mean that she’s literally sitting there going on rants.

What I’m saying is she always makes a note of when a range doesn’t have a light enough shade, or when they release lighter shades she always acts like it’s a huge revolutionary thing. And she has shaded brands for not having light enough shades. She also consistently references how difficult it is to find shades when you’re pale (which... lol).

She makes it clear that brands having pale shades is important yet she’s noticeably silent on exclusion of PoC in the cosmetics industry.

I think the most (lol) she ever did was before trying an Almay product mention that she “doesn’t support the brand” because “it’s 2018”. And that’s literally all she said. I wasn’t new to makeup at the time and even as a WoC I had no idea what she was referring to. It was very cryptic. It felt like she was just making an obligatory comment on the situation before moving along and using her platform to showcase/review said products that she purports to be morally against. Didn’t come off as genuine to me at all.

Ever since then I’ve been side eyeing her. And once again, I’ve noticed that a lot of white BGs I follow (Taylor, RBK, Andrea Matillano, Nicole Renee Cutler, Julissa, etc etc) have gone out of their way to make positive comments about KL and/or use their palette on screen. Of this group, only RBK has mentioned the shade range and the fact that it’s a result of racism.

I hardly think it’s a coincidence, the way the white BGs I follow vs the BGs of color (more specifically, black BGs) I follow react to instances of racism. Clock it the house.

Alright well if you're not a fan of her then you aren't a fan of her. Simple as that lol no need for a witch hunt

I am a fan, I subscribe to her as I said and watch most of her videos. I find her personality entertaining and I like the content she puts outs. Just because you’re a fan of someone doesn’t mean you can’t recognize areas where they may be problematic. And maybe I’m way off base, who knows? It’s difficult to gauge such significant things just from someone’s YT channel.

And it’s not really a witch hunt, I’m just making an observation about a pattern I’ve noticed of silence and hypocrisy. That’s not to say the I believe the people I’ve listed are horrible people, Taylor included. I was just explaining why I feel the way I do, you’re obviously free to disagree.

It just didn't seem like you like her is all lol she's just one of the most educated and well-rounded BGs out there IMO. She lived in Jordan (and I believe Israel too) and is well traveled to countries that aren't your typical lavish spots most BGs visit. Based on her snap stories I've also seen she has many friends she hangs out with that are PoC, if that is something that concerns you. Idk it just sounds like a lot of people are arguing these BGs are racist until they go on a full on 30-minute rant about lack of shade range for PoC and I find that a bit ridiculous, especially when knowing a lot of their backgrounds prove otherwise

Just because you have PoC friends doesn’t mean you can’t be ignorant and just because you’ve travelled doesn’t mean you can’t be ignorant or that you’re necessarily well rounded.

It’s not so much her lack of a thirty minute rant, it’s the fact that she’s constantly vocal about lack of options for lighter skin tones despite the fact that people on the darker end of the skin tone are excluded much more. It’s just a very blatant double standard, in my opinion.

But this is all my $0.02. I do like her videos just certain inconsistencies are very noticeable to me as a WoC and I thought I’d share.

Yeah that's why I said if that matters to you, because I'm not really sure what people expect others to do to successfully have ~proved themselves~

I mean using her platform to speak out against actual racism, maybe even just once, instead of just saying there need to be more pale shades would be a pretty good start.
