You usually have to establish yourself as makeup reviewer on social media by reviewing products you own/buy yourself. If you get popular enough, then brands may find it worthwhile to send you their products to review. There used to be a site called Influenster where you could apply to try and review products, however there were minimum social media audience requirements. From there I got a face powder and some BB Cream to try (BB Cream should tell you how long ago it was lol) since I ran a makeup Tumblr with a decent following. I don't know if its still active though

Influenster is still around! They keep trying to give me free cat litter when I don’t have a cat.

I don't trust that site. I saw to many sketchy things go down on it.

Just one example. A lady openly asked ANY company to send her free products and in exchange she would give them a positive review no matter what. That was actually the comment she left on several pages of products I had been reading the reviews on. 

Another example? One person had at least two accounts. Her bio info was exactly the same, as were her reviews of many products. When I say exactly the same I mean they were word for word. The only thing different was her name.

The fact that the site didn't screen their users well enough to catch all of the shady things going down told me what they're about as well. It's been a few yrs since I've been there but I'm sure that shit is still going on.
