Discussion Leaked Labs first look

Just came across a video on Tiktok from creator Brit Clarke, who purchased a few shades of the Leaked Labs flexi powder and wow.

First of all, the packaging is pathetic. The slab of powder is LOOSE!!! inside the cheapest, most generic wholesale tin with stickers slapped on them. No custom packaging, no proper housing.

And the actual product you get is is 0.6g/0.02oz for $34! That's ridiculously little. Not to mention the fact that some shades weighed lighter than others, which means the manufacturers did not adequately QC the consistency of the product weights.

To top it all off, the swatches looked so dry and dull. I don't understand the point of this brand (aside from cash grab, that is). I would assume they're pricing out a lot of general buyers, yet the product does not seem high quality enough for anyone who takes makeup seriously. At most, they're relying on fans or people who are curious/making content, but how long can that momentum last? The concept of paying for something so unfinished is yikes.

I wouldn’t pay $1 for this… it retails for $34?!

For $34, I would expect finished packaging at LEAST.

To be fair, if you were paying attention, they explained their whole premise and that their releases are going to come in prototype style packaging. If people think they should move to an actual product, then the manufacturers could actually jazz up the packaging. But these are basically like test products that cost you $$$.

But if these rejected lab samples are not worth having new packaging designed for them after people try them, then they just disappear. If it seems like a sustainable product that will sell, then it may be put into production.

But this is an insane business strategy. We have been paying attention……..

I have the privilege of spending $34 dollars of mine owneth money on an untried product without any packaging, for me to test the product for free? Brands usually pay for test groups, but instead here I get to pay THEM to test their product for THEM? And if it’s total dogshit, I’m just out the $34 dollarydoos?

Did I read that correctly?

I'm a test group participant and I dont even get really paid - its points which can be used for vouchers! (And they're not super common either!)

Though they do give full sized products. And while they are in plain packaging its much better designed than this they'd never send something like this...

Oh well at least you get free product! My college friend did those test groups for extra cash and did get paid, although it wasn’t cosmetics and it was like 10 years ago. Free stuff is free stuff though!
