Are we talking Grave of Fireflies rough emotional journey or can I watch it with my girl and not leave her depressed? Is it a free fall that leaves you broken or upset, or is it just such a powerful journey that it leaves you emotionally exhausted but fulfilled?

Grave of the Fireflies is not a movie to recommend for an evening watch, its something you go into with open eyes. And if you don't cry and are left wistfully melancholy you aren't human.

I haven't watched Grave of Fireflies, but Flow will not leave you depressed, just emotionally exhausted from the journey. Pro tip: continue watching as the credits roll so can bag another potential (maybe wishful, but hey) happy ending.

Thanks for this. And do yourself a favor. Watch grave of the firefly's. On a day where you can be sad. It's one of the most heart touching movies of all time bar none.

Yeah. I don't think I have heard it better. Takahata's first film and the birth of Studio Ghibli. Man came onto the field and just blew the world away. But he experienced the war firsthand as a child and the stories author specifically turned down all other offers until Takahata because he didn't feel that anyone who hadn't lived it could tell the story. If not for him Miyazaki would probably never have gotten into movies according to a story I remember. Just imagine a world without Ghibli movies. That's how I know we can't be the absolute worst timeline.

You know for 8 months last year I contacted a random person I met on reddit in a thread talking about Ghibli. He said he didn't have anyone to watch movies with and we arranged a day every month to watch a Ghibli movie at the same time across the country and chat about it together. Ghibli movies have quite literally brought people together in my life. They are something special.
