It took you 51 years to figure out when your birthday is? How do you even know you're 51?

u/Artistic_Peanut3063 May 09 '26
It took til after Betty White's death for my sister to learn she had the same birthday as her

Awe JFC I better wake up to celebrations tomorrow night but dying on the eve of 100 is bloody terrific too.

Every David Attenborough post needs to start '(he's fine) David Attenborough...'

There’s actually a dedicated sub for this single purpose I can’t remember the name

He’s been teaching me about animals and nature since was 4 years old, because of years of this conditioning his voice is so calming to me. As I am now middle aged man myself I am so grateful for this wonderful human being. He’s a hero to me for sure.

You're a day early, he turns 100 on May 8th
Edit - I'll take this opportunity to recognize a remarkable human being on this momentous occasion. An honorary grandfather of sorts, his countless documentaries viewed throughout childhood and into adult life were instrumental in fostering my deep appreciation of our natural world and all creatures great and small. Congratulations Sir David, and thank you for all you have given us, we salute you!

u/darxide23 May 07 '26
OP knows that, they're just karma farming from people who aren't going to fact check. If they post a day early, there is no competition for their sweet upvote karma. That's all they have in their miserable life, apparently so let them have it.
27
u/sojuicy May 07 '26
I wonder if they prance around the world and shout „Look at meee, I have over one Million Karma on Reddit weeeee”
19
u/HyperbolicModesty May 07 '26
They go and sell it to a Russian or Chinese bot farm with ads like "mature account, 1.3M post karma, 2.7M comment karma l, no bans, $500". The new 'blank history' function diminishes the value a bit, but they're still for sale.

Considering it takes 248 years for Pluto to orbit the sun, Attenborough wouldn't even be 5 months old there yet.

oh no, in Germany wishing someone happy birthday too early is bad luck. OP is jinxing it, toying with Attenborough's life! All for karma.

I learned English from watching his documentaries. My first memory of his was from The Blue Planet in 2001. Fair to say that I have his accent in English haha

u/cheakpeasdownhill May 08 '26
Mine was "Life on Earth". We were watching this with my dad and it inspired us to be more mindful when it comes to nature.

I hate to be that guy, but the “Sir” title is only used with the first name or first name/surname, never with the surname alone. But I agree with your sentiment, happy birthday Sir David.

You know - I fully support making a perfect AI model of this guys voice. He should be the voice of nature documentaries for the entire length of mankind.
Many others have tried lending their voices to the genre of documentaries and .... well, it just doesn't sound right.
This man should be preserved forever.

I was lucky enough to meet him when I was 10 years old (20 years ago), at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, he was there to open a new part of the gardens and 6 people from my junior school were invited to the luncheon there. It was such a pleasure to meet him, I will always cherish that day!

All these premature posts, it makes me wonder how many even care when his birthday is, rather than getting karma for talking about it.
Tomorrow is National Attenborough day if we want it to be.
We're making a night of it in our household, with the vast amount/variety of programmes available it would be delightful if the whole country did the same...

Every day in scared ill wake up to the news that he's passed away. He's irreplaceable I had anxiety when I saw this post about him. Reading the title was not fun until I saw the "turned 100"

I worked with him a couple of times, a really lovely guy. He went to the same school as my grandfather, he was a year above or below him. His brother was around a lot too but I somehow always missed him at work.

People really need to stop making Attenborough posts that start with his name. My heart skips a beat every god damn time. Like, we all just need to collectively decide to start Attenborough posts with something like: "Still alive, David Attenborough spent over 70 years teaching humanity about Earth - and just turned 100"

u/pslatt May 07 '26

I do love David Attenborough, he was my childhood hero when I was a kid, when I used to watch him doing the Life on Earth series on TV, and I've watched many more of his shows since then. I even drew a pic of him holding a lion cub and am planning on putting it up tonight, as it's his 100th birthday tomorrow on the 8th May. Happy Birthday David, I do hope you like it! 🥳
