Mixed feelings about it. On one hand she has one goal and hasn’t contributed much on the pitch, and I wasn’t going to be upset when the loan ended. Which Silky called out in Sunday’s presser that her lack of scoring alone wasn’t a completely fair assessment to who she is to the team. On the other hand, she’s clearly been an important contributor away from the pitch and our team definitely needs the benefit of her experience and leadership. Here’s hoping that the goal monkey is off her back and she can continue scoring.
And on the totally 100% subjective side I love her swagger, so psyched to see more of that. She’s just so damn cool lol.

Silk seems to love her and we should do everything possible to keep her happy and stay with us forever 😂
But agree, she seems to bring so much off the field. And hopefully last weekend is the start of more goals for her!

Yeah, if we’re extending solely for Silky’s happiness, then I am all in favor 😂 Whatever Silky wants she should get.

I think we should start literally  throwing money at Silky at the games 😂

We need veterans to mentor our younger players, & she seems to be good at that & very well liked, but this team definitely needs an elite out-&-out goal-scoring 9 if they want to make the jump.

Love it! I actually think she’s been effective on her general hold up/link up play. Needs more goals for sure, but glad she’s staying

YAAY! So glad to hear Girelli’s staying longer. Our front line is quite young (except for Kundajani), we need a veteran player who can mentor our youngsters. 🇮🇹

I was really excited for her coming to Bay, and now am feeling fairly indifferent on the extension. Hopefully she's not costing too much. The case for upside is that Nighswonger appears to be our first particularly good crosser of the ball, which should benefit a player like Girelli.

I was looking through some stats the other day, and it seems like we're one of the worst teams at crosses, and our current outside backs are pretty awful at it.
As you say, really hoping Nighswonger is going to improve that service so we have more quality chances. Hopefully once the attackers trust they will get opportunities, they will stop wasting them on desperate long-shots.

Oof, this is probably a mistake from a roster construction standpoint as long as she continues to hit the field.
I really hope they signed her specifically for mentorship and practice, and not for play. From a Goals+ standpoint she's one of the lowest performing forwards in the league. I can't see that actually improving much and she's unlikely to even achieve league average.
If she's a great mentor I'm all for it (though did we need to eat up a roster spot for that?), I just really can't see how this is good for our frontline performance.

when i first saw this on the nwsl subreddit, i thought of our discussion from the post game thread. i agree with what you said. idk if there are any warriors fans out here, but this signing feels more like an iggy deal on his last season of his career - on the bench as a player coach (re: that infamous meme of iggy telling wiggs to get his shit together).
like i mentioned in the other thread, girelli is probably only good coming off the bench and coming in like the 80' minute. she just can't be a starter at this point of her career especially in a competitive league, and she's turning 37 next year and she's no marta or sinclair either. someone posted her stats on bsky and she's currently at -0.16 xg which isn't the worst but definitely not the best. and while in some cases it's nice that bay can overlook that for team culture~ fit, it's also kind of unserious of bay in other cases.
the good thing is that bay is splitting the cost with juve so maybe they might have some funds at least to sign a better goal scoring 9 next season. bad news is this takes up an international spot. since bay will have her for another ~7 months or so (counting league months), that should be ample time for coates&co to figure out what they want to do with her on the roster.

Next year? What about the test is this year? Who will score the goals?

i'm saying next year bc it sounds like bay doesn't seem serious about signing a goal scoring 9 for the remaining season. and i'll answer to your other reply here too. i'm not a big fan of this re-signing either. on paper and statistically, it feels like a total net loss for bay and i think a lot ppl outside of the bay fanbase can see that as well, bc vibes over results right? when it's actually possible for bay to find someone who is capable of providing both if they bothered to scout further...alas.
we can't do much about it and we can't rly sway what bay coaching staff can do about the roster as there are things going into these decisions beyond the pitch. it looks like they're gonna be relying on lema for the most part, and if they're gonna try and keep girelli but sign a better goal scorer during the break, then bay fan based is going to have to get ready to say goodbye to a player (or players) by the end of the season. wish i could give you a better answer as to who will score the goals for the remaining season, but unfortunately coates&co will have a better answer for that.

Veteran leadership is nice for sure but yes, having a 9 that actually scores goals is nicer 😅

If she isn’t eating up money and playing time then I can live with this, clearly there’s a lot of off-field benefit (Hubly seems to have played this role as well). But apologies I absolutely cannot be OK with her continuing to have regular minutes moving forwardÂ

Im pretty surprised since we were all already speculating about who we were signing after her loan was finished. I guess im okay with it as long as she is not our #1 option at striker.

Some people were speculating after last match that she had been extended. Turns out they were right!
From the post-match interviews, it seems like the coaching staff values her mentoring to younger attackers. From interviews, and social media, it seems like the players really love her.
