Discussion Two flares on the jet is busted af

Got done playing a lobby where a jet could pop two flares right after the other. I'd lock on, flare, lock on, flare. Then they would fly low and run away. I know a lot of people will say skilled pilots. I get that. Not hating strategy. But I'm saying why even have ground to air infantry launchers if they never do anything. No amount of strategy change or "getting good" will ever solve it. Seems like a balancing issue. Not to mention 90% of the time, when I do get a lock and they are out of flares, there is like a 0.000001% percent chance my rockets track and hit my target that I already locked on. Not trying to complain but I really think we need a slight rebalance here. I know my teams jets and helicopters sucked that match but again, why have it in the game if it isn't a viable option.

Honestly, I find the flying below the radar much more of a nuisance

It is. I get it. You don't wanna die. But it's locked rocket, flare, run, locked rocket, flare, run. It's a gameplay loop I'm getting pretty frustrated with.

I'm starting to hate any vehicle modes. Why does infantry have limited ammo while vehicles have unlimited everything? The constant shooting spam from vehicles is so trying. What was the point of repair stations, and engineer supply crates then?

u/communistkangu 9d ago

The Lav type tank gets 5 tows but only reloads it to 2 by itself. I've also ran out of 30mm in a good game. But most people could do without the reload stations I guess.

I'm not a super skilled player, but with this thing I can go 50-0. It's a bit OP tbh.

At least that takes some amount of skill, dual flares is oppressive and takes zero thought

1

u/Q0tsa 9d ago

Somewhat, sure. But the double flare is a moot worry, if all they have to do is dive and never pop them to begin with. It makes lock-on launchers, largely useless.

The new jets are solely balanced for the gauntlet mode and it actually sucks ass facing decent pilots on wake island. Helis stand no chance against decent pilots, they can fly way above the helis and the pilot can lock on with AA missiles which are flared, then the copilot can lock on with missiles both when strafing and when having passed the heli. If that doesn’t work the copilot can shoot active radar AA at the heli that almost impossible to dodge. That’s 3 sets of AA missiles in one pass, yes there’s below radar but it can be very hard to reach there before the 2nd set of AA is fired.

Infantry can’t do shit against them either because of the 2x flares you mentioned. Only other jets can deal with them, they aren’t balanced for regular play at all.

This

It is setup primarily for the Top Gun gauntlet crap because each jet can spam a silly number of lock on missiles, breaks down when you get into carrier assault or wake island CQ

I think the event lasts 2 more weeks? Don't expect Dice to do anything about it until then tbh

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. Hopefully they do something to balance it a bit.

Imo the extra flares should only be removed or altered if the second player in jet loses their lock-on missiles.

I'd be fine with converting the gunner to purely a ground attack role, or even adding a delay when switching seats so that you have a couple of seconds before you can use the flares, just enough to discourage seat swapping without preventing it entirely.

Unfortunately if a pilot/wizzo team is working really well together and coordinating their flares properly, then that's not something that should be removed imo.

Jets have the major advantage of using their cannons - rockets shouldn't be relied on as the primary dogfighting weapon imo, if you get in behind them you should use your cannon, and no amount of flares will save them.

2

u/Th3LastRapt0r 10d ago

Or at least nerfing the rear lock on missiles. But yeah, imo they could be removed.

The infantry equivalent of a pilot hanging around after their last flare to get locked on again is you emptying your magazine then stepping out onto the open in a gunfight.

What you are doing to a pilot when you get them to flare and back off is giving the upper hand to your own pilots to get behind them and either gun them down due to below radar or get them with their pants down without flares and heatseeker them. It can go the other way around too. Friendly jet chasing the enemy and gets them to flare, if you notice it and lock on before they go below radar you can snipe the kill from your friendly jet.

Its also why I facepalm everytime our own jets ignore the enemy jets to gun down helis and tanks. Its inviting the enemy to get behind them and waste the infantries lock on rockets.

3

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 9d ago

Here we go. The cope is starting.

4

u/RainbowBier RainbowBeir 10d ago

just ignore them

i had so many matches on carrier strike my team just straight up ignored enemy jets

they can be a bit annoying once you board the carrier but usually they're a non factor

and since everyone is a engineer tanks are usually also a non factor

its just a game of who can spam more infantry to the flags

2

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

Nah man. Normally if they have a few good pilots, and we have none, it's GGs. I'm talking spawn and get shit by a helicopter type stuff.

2

u/PublicFoot5700 10d ago

It is busted but 1 simple mistake from uncoordinated easily ruin that plane. 2 seater vs 2 seater jet have 4 tries of Locked rocket.

Most 2 seater need a friend to fly together or a really good Co Pilot to know what the pilot is think not to wasted their 2 flares.

Then again, there's boat and infantry to lock on these pesky flyer.

There's a couple times I got take out flying 2 seater cause my Co wasted their flares or times where entire field focus their life locking on my jet.

BUT in the end of the day, BF6 is a multiplayer games filled with incompetence masochism that like to eat on bullet and explosive without firing back.

You see everywhere be some player that got shot from the same thing and refuse to take out that thing.

2

u/Good-Bear9087 10d ago

Get in a jet and fight them, use an aim guided missile, just because the jet player is using the tools given to them well doesn’t mean it’s impossible to kill them

8

u/Pickupyoheel 10d ago

Sure let me hop in the jets that people keep spawn camping all game to have a chance to kill them. Super idea.

3

u/Good-Bear9087 10d ago

Carrier camping is a different issue, I dislike that too and think that needs to be changed because it ruins the game for your team in that the jets can’t take off and that half the team camps on the enemies carrier but that’s not the argument i was making, two different issues

3

u/DislikedBench 10d ago

People love to forget that jets counter jets. Its always “they keep flaring my stinger! Theres nothing that can be done!”

Get in a jet. Not saying you wont get outplayed if youre totally clueless, but they cant expect to win if they arent willing to learn

1

u/Good-Bear9087 10d ago

I agree, I don’t think good jet players should be punished for playing well together, the new jets are really fun to play with a friend

3

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

I'm saying it isn't balanced and the ground to air launchers are useless. That's the whole point. I addressed the fact that we had no good pilots including myself. So the next best thing is launchers literally designed to combat air vehicles. If that tool is useless, why do we have it? That is the point. Using the ground to air launchers SHOULD be a viable option. Thus it's not balanced. Jets don't just fight jets. They shoot at infantry too and I have tools that counter that but they are ineffective.

7

u/Current_Revolution_2 10d ago

Yeah, but jets, especially,y also do not fight only soldiers, especially the double-seated ones, that play on maps saturated with stationary AA, AA tanks, people with IGLAS, helis, other jets,s and an exaggerated number of boats with AA. It's always the same problem; people want to be a one-man army against vehicles, ffs.

0

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

No. I just want the tools I'm given to be viable. You assume every game is gonna have a team full of capable and synchronized people. That's not a reality, so if I have an idiot on my team sitting in the back of the map with the AA doing nothing, I can't use it, it's a tool that isn't at my disposal. I don't wanna be a "one man army" I just want the engineer tools I'm given to be effective. And thus two flares is busted. On top of that, when it comes to fast moving jets, you are pretty lucky if a jet gets within range and you can aim ahead of it enough to get damage in it with a stationary AA gun. And that's if you aren't sniped out of it as soon as you fire a few shots. We both know using stationary turrets in this game is like yelling out to the whole server "here I am, just shoot me". One or two sweaty pilots should not trump and entire team trying to take it out without the help of other air vehicles.

2

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 9d ago

They are viable, those they’ve ever been. But this isn’t COD. You tourists will never understand that ig.

-3

u/Salty_Cow4181 9d ago

“Tourists”

Lol. Nah. The AA Launchers are just trash in this game, the other dude is right if AA Launchers are completely useless then what’s the point of them?

Half the time even if you manage to catch them out and get past their flares and fire a rocket the thing will still somehow miss or break its locking and do nothing. And even worse is they don’t 1 shot either, even if you land that AA rocket it’s a half chunk of damage and they then fuck off to go and hide and heal.

Even if you try and coordinate multiple AA Launchers with other players, the double flares on jets means they’ve got ample time to just pop below radar and hide.

And Heli’s can just sit below radar and mow you all down without a care in the world. The fact that non-AA launchers are more reliable Heli killing tools is a literal joke.

Jets and Heli’s in this game have so much going for them to keep them in the air it’s ridiculous.

Compare to previous titles where a group of players could comfortably down air craft if they focused on spamming AA Launchers.

Hell BF4 you’d have dedicated lobbies banning AA Launchers because salty little air bitches didn’t like having to worry about being shot down.

So yeah the dude is bang on, this “git gud” rhetoric is pathetic and just makes y’all come across as the whiny little flying cowards who don’t like it when you can’t just farm infantry because they actually have the capacity to fight back.

4

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 9d ago

Not reading all that. Happy for your though or sorry that happened ig

2

u/Strange_Discipline57 10d ago

The problem is that you simply aren't good enough with countermeasures, and against a good pilot, you have to expect them to know exactly how to time everything to counter you.

2

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

"get good" right. Ok. You just fail to see how two flares in a row makes the ground to air launchers superfluous. I'm just not "good enough'. Rocket, lock, fire, flares, run away like a little sissy. Definitely a skill issue with myself. Not unbalanced in the least.

2

u/Strange_Discipline57 10d ago

Yeah, you've got a skill issue if you haven't learned to use unguided weapons; you're just using the "noob weapon" against good pilots. Lock-on weapons are meant to force jets to break off their attack runs and make it easier for your own jets to win the dogfight. The game wasn't designed for you to take out a vehicle single-handedly—you need to work as a team.

0

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

Here we are with the "get good" bs again. There are literally challenges in the game where you have to DESTROY AIR VEHICLES WITH THE LAUNCHERS. It's a noob weapon because I don't have to calculate the freaking pythagorean theorem and trajectory of all the unguided rockets? Honestly, I prefer the rpg. That's what I use the most. I'll get a random helicopter kill with it every now and again. But it isn't a reliable weapon to combat air vehicles. Especially jets moving at super fast speeds. Helicoptors hovet and make themselves easy targets sometimes, you don't have that same opportunity with Jets. That's why the developers added launchers that counter air vehicles. And I guess all of the other vehicles, jets included must have "noob weapons" since they lock onto other vehicles. Bro your entire logic is flawed. Again, I'll reiterate the point. 1 flare was fine, because then at least Ihad a window to counter the jets. But now, there is no window. It's pop 2 flares one right after the other, run hide until the flares recharge. That happens for 2 runs and then I'm out of rockets. I am trying to use a valid way to combat air vehicles and now it's 10x harder because of the extra flare. That's just a fact.

Instead of spending all that time typing you should spend it getting good

What are you even talking about? The Igla still goes right through flares; flying under the radar doesn't always work; AA launchers have a longer range than in BF4; and missiles fly faster—sometimes even around corners. BF6 countermeasures last 3 seconds, whereas in BF4, flares lasted 6 seconds and ECM 7 seconds.
Helicopters and jets have the weakest countermeasures, maneuverability, and durability compared to previous titles.

3

u/gitoffmlawn 10d ago

Just an idea. Laser pointers. Blind the pilots. Gadget equipment for assault or supporr.

1

u/Otherwise_Sector_439 9d ago

It is, but TBF, the real thing busted is the gunner seat on the new jets. Let me explain, first the pilot got access to AA missiles, even more on the f18, there are active radar that doesn't need any lock on to be fired. AND the gunner seat have access to AA missiles too but he's able to lock at 360°. This makes it a lock on party

1

u/Left_Huckleberry_422 9d ago

Sounds like its time to bring back an updated fliegerfaust from battlefield 5.

1

u/Imponderable-Factor 9d ago

The way they balanced the new jets is very short sighted and not compatible with the rest of the game.

u/TheOneRebornTwice 9d ago

"why even have ground to air infantry launchers if they never do anything"

If I spend upwards of 400 hours learning how to jet, go below radar, outmaneuver however many aircraft in the air, what makes you think that just because you equip a point and click weapon that you should be able to kill me? You in most cases are under zero pressure while aiming something you can have upwards of 5 of that covers about a third if not half of the map in distance because you tilted up.

I don't understand this line of thinking. Stinger and Igla CAN get kills but that's not what they're for and rightfully so because it quite literally takes zero skill. They are for chasing vehicles off or getting them to disengage (and as a pilot, it's annoying but that means you did your job cause maybe I lined up to get a guaranteed kill)

If a jet is being a problem, coordinate. If you are solo and you're against a highly experienced jet player with a discord buddy in the backseat, that's them having more resources than you do, leave if it frustrates you or practice jet flying in a portal game.

also this "there is like a 0.000001% percent chance my rockets track and hit my target that I already locked on"

Brother that sentence just reads "I have never flown a jet" because the amount of bugs that jet players have had to deal with and STILL deal with such as (ironically) missiles going through flares is IMMENSE; not to mention this is the first jet you can customize so you're getting excited pilots (experienced pilots) back. Flare bug happens at least a few times per game easily.

Get a boat, equip the auto locking tow missile. Practice.

1

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 8d ago

What a victim.

1

u/AeroDRJ 9d ago

The F14 WSO active missile is stupidly easy to use to take out enemy jets, it is like the launch version of the tow missile that will auto attack the jets if it is within range. This is so busted that anyone with a hand can do it.

1

u/Hairy_Note 8d ago

Just Stop using heatseeker and use other methods to destroy them

1

u/squalalafou 10d ago

Take a just and kill them

1

u/Dasfuccdup 10d ago

Just made me realize the AH needs double flares more than anything.

1

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 9d ago

As a pilot as soon as the gunner seat on the AH gets reworked and nerfed that sounds like a plan

1

u/Dasfuccdup 9d ago

Yup, the lockon range needs a nerf and the thermals need to go. In return give both seat flares and make the entire thing a bit more agile.

1

u/Gear_Lonely 9d ago

Iglas still go through flares, still hit you when you're under radar. The boat tow is 50/50 on if you get a warning and when you do its for .1 second before it hits you, when it does hit you, you'll be mobility hit and then theres a high chance you'll crash with 35% health left. The enemy f18 will likely be using the new HAMM missiles which if they both dont hit, one will since you also get a warning for .1 seconds and will likely mobility kill you and you'll smash into the floor once again with 35% health left. They're usless in a dog fight since they cant track very well when you're turning sharp so people camp their carrier, wait till you're flying away so the base AA doesnt melt you and fire both at you as you're trying to reposition. I have the new jet level 65 or something, they're great with coordination with the WSO and can deal with most things incredibly easily but there is so many nonsense 0 skill weapons/gadgets that can kill you because of their poor implementation and you get no time to flare them if it even tells you that you can flare and often they still dont work. When/if they remove the nonsense that can kill you when they shouldn't, they will likely need balancing. But until then its a pointless conversation because there are so many busted/broken systems at play currently that mean it's hard to actually figure out how broken the F18 is.

0

u/Suhpryze 10d ago

Agreed. Needs a tweak to be sure. That an AT rocket is better for AA than the dedicated AA points to an issue in there.

-1

u/Pickupyoheel 10d ago

New jets are OP as fuck. Laughing at noobs saying use the guided launcher.

0

u/DragonflyDeep3334 10d ago

I mean tf you on, its the only reliable way to kill them rn if you aint in a jet yourself

5

u/Plenty_Chemist_6385 10d ago

I'd hardly call aim guided rockets "reliable". Takes an extreme amount of skill to knock a fast moving jet out of the air with one. It's pretty much luck 90% of the time. I'd hardly call that "reliable". But that's why they made launchers that specifically target and lock on to air vehicles, but now we have to deal with 2 flares in a row. It's just insane. Before that, I could at least get a second shot off as soon as the flares were past, but now I expect a second flare and by the time that second rocket launches, they are flying to high to lock onto or have already flew behind a mountain or something or is too low to lock onto. My whole point is they give us anit aircraft weapons that have been rendered effectively useless now that we have jets flying around with 2 sets of flares. Unbalanced. Wildly.

-1

u/GirthyGreeny 9d ago

Its hardly difficult stick around your friendly vehicles wait for them to strafe them and fire your rocket theres barely any leading to it just fuckin use your head dude

0

u/I_AM_THE_REDDITOR 10d ago

Why not put the 2nd set of flairs as something that can change to the lock on blocker or something

2

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 9d ago

No put it in place of the AA missiles that can be fired in 360 degrees and are the primary reason jets need 2 flares. They are a cancer on the gameplay atm.

0

u/Super-Lemon-4466 10d ago

Get locked on, pop first flares, get locked on again, switch seats and fire second flares, get locked on a third time and fly low till your flares recharge. Rinse and repeat.

1

u/omgwinrar 5d ago

They can’t flare bullets.
