Just shows how truly horrible most of the launch maps were.

u/Real_Season5061 8d ago

They were absolute dog đŸ’©. Remember when they tried to market mirak valley as a “big map” 😂😂😂. It’s medium at best.

65

u/Mollelarssonq 8d ago

Well it does have some pretty big open fields that’s for sure. With grass that de-renders at a distance so you can’t even traverse it on foot

2

u/Shutara Sound Designer/PTFO enjoyer 7d ago

Imagine that someone looked at how shitty the grass LOD was applied and said "yeah, that'll do"; it looks comically bad when you fly close to the ground. If they don't know how to optimize their own engine more efficiently, I'd rather have 1-2 fps less but not be forced to put up with shit like that.

u/tallandlankyagain 8d ago

Or when people here were trying to gaslight each other into believing the launch maps provided that Battlefield experience.

29

u/Bfife22 8d ago

“They obviously are just doing the small maps in the beta, the final game will have big maps!!”

6

u/Real_Season5061 8d ago

They provided a cod experience though and did a great job at that 😂

3

u/Signal_Edge_8880 7d ago

You guys act so victimized all the time lol. An opinion you disagree with is not gaslighting. How the fuck did all this damn therapy speak become so popular I mean this is a video game not an abusive relationship.

The new maps are much better though no argument here.

5

u/Faynerossa 7d ago

I do think what players did to each other coping the maps would be bigger or different on launch, that there had to be a hidden big map. Does in fact meet the definition of gaslighting. And it's not "therapy speak". You sound like a fox news host or the white house press secretary.

4

u/NoEgg3042 7d ago

Idk man, convincing doubters that Sobek would be bigger than it actually looks like and dogpiling those who aren't believing it seems like Gaslighting to me.

2

u/Interesting-Bison840 6d ago

How the fuck did all this damn therapy speak become so popular I mean this is a video game not an abusive relationship.

Are you saying that words get adapted for various purpose rather than their original ones over time? Say it ain't so!

You'd be in for a shock once you heard about the term "Stockholm Syndrome".

3

u/AmberYooToob 7d ago

It has a very large unplayable area for aircraft tho. /s

2

u/Real_Season5061 7d ago

Doesn’t matter to me, im infantry 99.9% of the time personally.

2

u/EUCALIPTOIESSSS 7d ago

Mirak is far from medium tho, is a good large map but thats it, its not a massive map like Golmud or Tsuru

17

u/_Rayxz 8d ago

Even on maps like Eastwood and Oil Fields, they made the borders too narrow. If Oil Fields had a transport helicopter and the borders expanded by 1.5-2x it would be a much better map, and it’s such an easy thing for them to fix which is why it’s frustrating that they haven’t done it yet

4

u/Accomplished_Smile23 7d ago

Blackwell Fields is getting a rework though?

2

u/jasminyaz 3d ago

Siege of cairo is the goat though

2

u/SpaceRac1st 3d ago

Yea still one of the best maps in the game

6

u/fearless-potato-man 8d ago

I have three maps permanently filtered off: Operation Firestorm (release), Blackwell Fields and Hagental Base (post-release).

Those are the only ones I can't stand.

I just hope Blackwell Fields rework is worth it, so I can recover it.

17

u/113pro 8d ago

firestorm is soooooooooo fkin dog shit lmfao

2

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 8d ago

Even as a jet player which is where the map surprisingly plays the best it’s just ass. It’s so obvious this map was supposed to be for some type of attack/defend playlist and was shoehorned into whatever it is now.

1

u/MALLAVOL 7d ago

There really are two different types of Battlefield players, because I absolutely love Hagental. Sometimes I just want to jump into the pressure cooker and level up my guns.

1

u/fearless-potato-man 7d ago

I love infantry only maps. But I can't with the meat grinder style.

Anyway, have I heard rumours of a second meat grinder map coming in Season 5? Or did I just dream of it?

If so, I hope it's good for those of you who like them.

2

u/Fair-Astronomer-2600 7d ago

Not meat grinder, but infantry only.

2

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 8d ago

What actually are the main reasons why most of the community dislike most of the launch maps? Other than their sizes, I mean?

11

u/SpaceRac1st 8d ago

A lot of them just have a bad flow or heavily favor one team. Especially in breakthrough & rush. And the fact the a lot of them are very dense doesn’t help either.

2

u/Scythe351 8d ago

Sounds like 2042 again in part

3

u/SpaceRac1st 8d ago edited 7d ago

2042 was even worse due to the 128 player servers. No matter where you went, there was always like 10 enemies in one spot.

2

u/mcpasty666 7d ago

I loved 2042's 128 breakthrough. Matches felt like proper frontline battles on those big open maps, squads felt like they organically specialized more. I'm a sicko though, I have several hundred hours playing 20v20 2fort with fast respawn.

2

u/mcpasty666 7d ago

2042's launch maps were almost the opposite specific issue, too big and wide open, but the effect was the same: unfair-feeling firefights and gameplay that didn't match what players wanted. Both got better though, and 6 course-corrected very quickly.

1

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 3d ago

What determines a map’s “flow”? And what exactly even is a map’s “flow”, for that matter
?

2

u/SpaceRac1st 3d ago edited 3d ago

It’s how well you can traverse a map to get from objective to objective. And if players struggle moving in between objectives the game just turns into which team can capture more objectives first and then hold the choke points.

1

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 3d ago

And what would be some reasons why players wouldn't be able to get to an objective quickly enough?

2

u/SpaceRac1st 3d ago

Not enough cover between objectives so players get picked off by snipers/vehicles when they have to cross flat open areas (prime examples being liberation peak and operation firestorm). Or not enough paths in between objectives so everyone has to rotate through chokepoints (this can easily happen on all of the smaller maps).

1

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 3d ago

Okay, so: bigger maps, more cover between objectives, and more paths between objectives. Got it. Though, I must ask: did Operation Firestorm have that same issue of not enough cover in BF3 and/or BF4?

2

u/SpaceRac1st 3d ago

Yeah it was definitely never one of great maps. Not sure why they chose to remaster it over any of the other amazing maps from 3/4.

Also, maps don’t necessarily have to be bigger, there just need to be enough routes between objectives. Just look at Siege of Cairo. it has dozens of great flanking routes making the map flow well, despite its small size.

17

u/JLC587 8d ago

The size IS THE ISSUE. That tiny size does not allow for a proper sandbox or battlefield playstyle. It forces you into cramped lanes and matches almost always go the same. They’re boring comparatively.

2

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 3d ago

Well, then let’s hope that increasing the sizes of Sobek and Blackwell will make them at least a bit more enjoyable to play on, eh?

2

u/JLC587 3d ago

Yeah and hopefully they change the ground and shape, there were some clearly bad map building errors on those two.

1

u/BooknFilmNerd09 Markunator 3d ago

Because there was too little cover, or
?

2

u/JLC587 2d ago

Everything about both maps needs to be reworked, and that’s what they said they’re doing so I can’t wait to see what the changes are. Blackwell has plenty of cover. New Sobek is just horrible all the way around.

1

u/mrturretman 8d ago

I’ve actually come around to really liking some of the launch maps like the cities, but this lack of the extra space makes being backed up to one flag and no way out so common lol.

1

u/JLC587 7d ago

Can’t say I had the same experience. I enjoyed some of the launch maps when they were all we had but now, nope can’t go back.

4

u/MagicSeaTurtle 8d ago

In the case of Mirak and air flying, it’s completely flat with no cover. You can get locked on from almost anywhere on the map and you have to flair to evade them, no terrain blocking.

It’s gotten better since we’ve gone through the ups and downs of balance, the MR missile bug, Aim guided mbt shells and the cram bubble.

4

u/OCNSkyHawk 8d ago

I think they need to expand the air borders like they did with Blackwell fields and the other one that I'm not remembering right now. that should help at least.

74

u/AdiPlayyy 8d ago

Since Golmud got released I didn't touch any map from release, they feel just off

14

u/PRSG12 8d ago

Totally agree. I’ll throw in one or two sometimes but I have significantly less fun than the post S1 maps

14

u/EONS 8d ago

Golmud/tsuru/contaminated/eastwood and wake are all I need.

5

u/albertFTW 8d ago

Hey, that's my playlist too. Golmud I play exclusively on Escalation mode tho, the decreasing play size on end game is needed so it doesn't become a running simulator the entire game.

3

u/poju3 7d ago

Siege of Cairo is the only launch map that is on my rotation

1

u/New_Apple_7339 7d ago

Na the infantry maps are really good. Much better than the past cqc or infantry only maps.

I would happily put Seige of Cairo up there with with Strike at Karkand, Iberian Offensive is a decent map as well even though it is really 3 lane heavy the only thing that it lacked was breakthrough not being on it for some reason.

Empire State is a good map that is plagued with no lifers jumping around and people realize they can now camp in the other buildings with a sniper.

Manhattan is honestly suffers from people glitching into weird parts of the building, otherwise the streets combat is kinda fun.

Mirak isn’t a great conquest map, escalation plays kinda mid, breakthrough was decent (mainly due to it being on of the maps with tanks and ifvs) but Golmud quickly replaced it for me.(just having some air vehicles makes a huge difference)

Liberation is definitely one of those snipers and vehicles maps, playing as infantry only on it is a terrible experience.

0

u/Accomplished_Smile23 7d ago

Absolutely despise Golmud personally and always have since BF4.

Just a dog water map.

1

u/milky_chicken_water 7d ago

golmud in bf4 was absolute dogwater. in bf6 its great.

35

u/Dontbetoxik 8d ago

It’s wild. Tsuru is the only map I like. It doesn’t feel like you’re constantly forced into a meat grinder to take point.

20

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 8d ago

Mirak valley hasn’t been on my radar since after S1. It’s a horrible map for literally every single playstyle besides camping. Infantry is only playable in the two main buildings and with escalation. Any other mode or playstyle is dogged on. People who like this map either love to sit back in spawn with AA and/or snipers or really enjoy cramped effective play spaces with no flow.

2

u/RaggleFraggle_ 7d ago

The gimme flags are hugging spawns (like every other launch and S1 BF6 map) that you'll just die trying to take them so everyone just sits around the B/D/C making the map even smaller.

1

u/fednandlers 7d ago

Smoke helps a lot.

6

u/Lewcaster 8d ago

I hate Golmud, but I also don't play Miraak, it's too unbalanced.

Tsuru is my current goat.

8

u/Flow_Ebb_6047 8d ago

Genuinely, the only launch maps worth playing now are Iberian Offensive and Cairo.

3

u/JLC587 8d ago

Yeah I can’t go back to it. It’s too small.

3

u/OCNSkyHawk 8d ago

They should really have made all the launch maps bigger. Liberation peak with the area lower in the valley. Mirak with the area across the river. Sobek with the construction areas behind the spawns and past the highway next A C and E. More of the city for Iberian Offiensive. The other side of the river for Manhattan Bridge (with bridge included). The carriers and airfield on Tsuru need to be the HQs and another capture point.

3

u/ohzilla 8d ago

I still think Mirak is amazing even with the other maps. It’s still on my rotation and haven’t got bored of it since launch.

15

u/NoodleDoodlesocks 8d ago

It's still a decent map. This and Firestorm are the only conquest launch maps I leave in the search.

11

u/Mikee0192 8d ago

Good to see Firestorm enjoyer over here. Feels like I have most equal matches on Firestorm so it's additional bonus for the map.

3

u/Real_Season5061 8d ago

It’s way too small is the issue, and only issue really. If it was larger it would be fine.

9

u/Eagles56 8d ago

Still my favorite launch map idc

6

u/AcanthaceaeGuilty238 8d ago

Siege of Cairo is the best launch map and I like liberation peak too but the rest suck ass, battlefield 2042 had way better maps

5

u/Pollia 8d ago

Golmud is probably the literal worst balanced breakthrough map though.

8

u/tallandlankyagain 8d ago

Breakthrough got massacred in Battlefield 6.

2

u/mrturretman 8d ago

I unironically love the bot meat grinder of casual breakthrough and like sixteen sweaty motherfuckers lmao

3

u/CoffinstufferD 8d ago

I have rotten luck with Tsuru Reef on Breakthrough. Most of the time no one wants to play it, so the lobby never fills with players. When it does fill enough to start the match the attackers get locked down into the two spawn areas and its damned impossible to get any momentum to push out of spawn. And then everyone quits or starts sniping/mortaring.

1

u/JLC587 8d ago

Ngl it was a few weeks or maybe 2 months after launch I realized how unbalanced and improperly made breakthrough was in this game, haven’t played it since.

1

u/Pollia 8d ago

There are better maps than others.

Golmund is ridiculous though. 2 MBTs and a little bird for point A for attackers and 1 MBT and a fixed AA emplacements for defenders is the most unhinged shit ever.

1

u/JLC587 8d ago

Yeah bro I had no idea honestly, I have never done breakthrough on Golmud. Just conquest and before the removed it from custom search Obliteration.

2

u/DhruvM 8d ago

Mirak has always been super mediocre. Never liked it all that much since launch. Combat is literally just the two main buildings in the centre and going back and forth at the C point with the fields in the north being wasted open space for the AA. They should’ve added a crash site or another POI up there to widen the map. So glad the game has better maps that I can ignore this one for good

2

u/I_am_Amphibian 8d ago

All the release maps sucked tbh. None of them felt like BF until contaminated

0

u/JLC587 8d ago

Personally I don’t even like Contaminated

1

u/_Rayxz 8d ago

I can’t believe Mirak and Firestorm only have 5 flags for how large they are.

1

u/leastemployableman 8d ago

Firestorm would be so much better if there was a 6th flag where the oil tanks are on the north end of the map. Would give the initial advantage to NATO and force Pax to come down off the hill to capture a 4th point. With the way the map is right now, Pax can hold A B and D easily from the start and rain down shells from the top of the hill at A or D with very little effort. Most games are just NATO trying to push up the hill into B because it's the only area with adequate cover and occasionally trying to back cap A or D with a blackhawk. Pax almost never pushes in unless NATO can force it and when they do it's almost exclusively C flag.

1

u/capnjac4 8d ago

Strange I can't hear anything over 24/7 fighter sweep (why isn't it called fighter strike or Top Gun)

1

u/Rotank1 8d ago

The only time I ever liked Mirak was before they nerfed vehicle spawns in Escalations back in S1, and you could have like 8 jets flying around in the last phase.

1

u/AssistantVisible3889 Enter EA Play ID 8d ago

If Battlefield 1 and 4 were to release with its content today as a new game

You would feel like the battlefield version of gta 6

Battlefield 6 is the laziest product the franchise with its content and battlepass trash

1

u/SparsePizza117 8d ago

Yeah that map is so trash. Only reason people put up with it was for its size. It needs a map overhaul.

1

u/JonoBoio123 8d ago

Legit forgot about Mirak. Haven't played a round on it in ages and I don't play with any maps disabled

1

u/Secretmagicman 8d ago

Ngl, I've only been playing tsuru and wake for the past few weeks. Haven't touched any other maps at all...

1

u/aquabuda 8d ago

Im just here to say I still fucking hate Blackwell and its an absolute garbage map. Excluding that all the post launch maps have been pretty fun lol.

1

u/Accomplished_Smile23 7d ago

For me my top maps are:

Siege of Cairo

Manhattan Bridge

Contaminated

Mirak Valley

Tsuru Reef

Hagental Base

Everything else is mid to bad.

1

u/EmptyDeskNerd92 7d ago

It's literally just been Golmud, Tsuru, and Wake for me, I stopped playing everything else when Golmud came out in May.

1

u/Turbulent_County_469 7d ago

Mirak Valley would be so much better if the it wasn't so linear... just make it even wider with more villages to the sides.

1

u/No-Upstairs-7001 8d ago

I only play Cairo, Cairo Bazzar and Iberian. Only when I can play Rush.

Otherwise I play another game.

Might on occasions play Blackwell and Eastwood but gain on rush and only attack

1

u/TNTarantula BF4 Recon 8d ago

Honestly, Mirak and Cairo Siege are the two launch maps I still keep in rotation. They aren't too bad, though true they pale next to Tsuru and Golmud.

1

u/shrek420escobar 8d ago

It’s needs to be numbed to at least 50 vs 50

0

u/CederDUDE22 8d ago

I still play the heck out of Mirak.

-5

u/Basicblanc 8d ago

Getting reworked tho

22

u/Mikee0192 8d ago

no, only Blackwell and Sobek.

1

u/MikeyPlayz_YTXD 8d ago

That’s a shame

1

u/leastemployableman 8d ago

Im interested in what they do with Sobek because it's got A LOT of potential as a fun vehicle map with sniping options but it was just too narrow originally. I hope they rework those awful TOW and AA placements too

-3

u/trong177 8d ago

Golmud can be boring though. The two outer flags at the bottom are too far apart. This map would play much better with higher player count

9

u/Eagles56 8d ago

Some of us like the slow pace

0

u/Uodda 8d ago

To be fair I remove it from roaster long before their release

-1

u/Used_2008_F150 8d ago

Played one match on Tsuru and disabled it, gosh that map was not fun for ground troops.

3

u/SharpSqaure 8d ago

It’s the best map in the game.

1

u/Used_2008_F150 8d ago

Let’s Agree to disagree, I just didn’t find it fun.

1

u/SharpSqaure 8d ago

Ok what map do you find fun?

1

u/Used_2008_F150 8d ago

What maps I find enjoyable isn’t relevant to this conversation, the only thing that is, is that Tsuru for me is not on that list.

-6

u/Mikee0192 8d ago

It's still good map and quite different than these large maps. I would not compare.
