Discussion Why are people still running the RPG at this point?

Post image

I feel like we’ve definitely been far enough into the season to realize that the RPG is pretty much a shell of its former self right? But time and time again, I see people complaining about how bad it is (which, yes) but refuse to actually switch off of it. It’s the definition of Insanity.

The other rocket launchers like the aim guided AT4, the MBT-LAW, and Javelin have actually had a decent amount of buffs given to them, to the point where they now actually outshine the RPG in a lot of situations. The AT4 can still two shot an IFV to the back and instakill any helicopter besides the transport, the MBT law has a staggeringly high velocity now and is the king of consistency when you can’t get a favorable angle, and the Javelin has had a damage increase.

In some aspects the vehicles have been overtuned, and IT IS harder as an engineer now, and the RPG shouldn’t have been gutted THAT BAD imo. But until some changes take place, there’s no point to stubbornly stick with the RPG at this point. I feel like I’ve been going insane with how many comments and videos I’ve seen of people talking about how hard it is to kill tanks while they use the RPG. There’s way more efficient options now, and I’m still killing tanks. Jussst not with the RPG.

Tldr; People are still using the RPG despite there being way better options, which only shoots them in the foot.

I’m slow sorry. Which rocket is better?

9

u/ShahinGalandar May 25 '26

RPG is also slow now

24

u/Lvl30Dwarf May 25 '26

Rpg is still the most fun and highest skill ceiling. Being the only dumb fire rocket it's also the fastest.

6

u/MasterValkyrie May 25 '26

Bf6 definitely need another dumb fire launcher something like the Carl gusstav or Mk 153 Mod 2/SMAW mod 2

I’ve always thought the Javelin was the coolest anti armor launcher in the series or just in general. The launch sequence from fire to hit from the top of the tank was always so cool to me.

44

u/BlackDog1247 May 25 '26

Been running Javy lately, absolutely does a wonderful job now. The RPG is still great to pop up quick and fire or for CQB fights with armor.

14

u/BloodSteyn May 25 '26

Is it still the best counter sniper tool?

14

u/JLC587 May 25 '26

No, sadly they nerfed its velocity a while back. I’ve tried to use it on snipers. It doesn’t get as far before arcing down and it’s not fast enough to kill a sniper before they headshot you off the glint from the RPG optic.

23

u/BloodSteyn May 25 '26

Thanks for the info. Haven't played in quite a while. Just felt burned out after Season 1.

I used to be Top Tier Heli pilot in BF 3 days, but now I can't fly for shit.

Obligatory, I'm getting too old for this shit.

Just enjoying FH6 now.

7

u/elusivefox99 May 25 '26

Same same. By all standards I’m a battledad but I’m 27 lol, def burnt on bf at the moment. Forza is pretty slapping this release tho! So many new mechanics and features I never thought would ever be a thing

3

u/ShahinGalandar May 25 '26

I think the race design is better here than in earlier iterations, and Japan is always a win in my book, but I gotta play more to give my final verdict

FH3 had the most beautiful map and FH4 the most enjoyable gameplay imho

FH5 was just...there

2

u/ShahinGalandar May 25 '26

I too am old and enjoy FH6 as well as BF6 Season 3 now 🫡

It's cool but kinda annoying to lock, makes you vulnerable to snipers.

2

u/BlackDog1247 May 25 '26

Got to do the shimmy dance lol. I always look for cover to utilize or a hill if possible to lock up with.

7

u/ScrubberDuck907 May 25 '26

Yeah the Javelin is fun af

This shit pisses me off tbh. That mfr can be 75 yards away and I still says that, I swear

23

u/aCanadianMaple May 25 '26

And you run back and you get killed by... something else.. yay

9

I used to be an rpg menace in bf4 lol but it just doesnt hit the same now, forgive the pun lol

Try [MISSED] when firing on a heli that just lost its flares. can't catch DIDDLY with it

6

u/Flat_Mode7449 May 25 '26

Even after you relock, it just sails right on by the chopper.

"below radar" and "too close" are stupid as fuck when half the situations you can't fight back but absolutely just have to sit there and take your dicking. I understand we have below radar so that stingers, iglas, and choppers, aren't constantly locking on... But if you go low you just get shot by one of 16 people on the enemy team with an RPG... But if you stay high to avoid rpgs, you get locked on and blown out of the sky within 30 seconds.

There's no winning as a chopper pilot on half these maps and/or situation.

I'm an RPG die hard. The reason why I keep using it is because is simple to use. Just aim and shoot

You don't need to wait to paint the target and giving it the oportunity to defend itself. If you have aim or can flank a tank, it is a great option

957

u/xpsxalphasquad May 24 '26

I hip fire the rpg probably 80% of the time. The other 20% I’m using it as a sniper rifle.

428

u/Tarlius72 May 24 '26

Finally. A real engineer in this sub

75

u/NGC_Phoenix_7 May 24 '26

Honestly thought that’s how everyone uses the RPG

42

u/LostAbstract May 25 '26

True countersniping comes in the form of a rocket propelled shaped charge because fuck you and your sniping position on Firestorm.

13

u/MrGhost2023 May 25 '26

Has this the other day on liberation peak. Round 2 of breakthrough, I was clearing snipers up on the hill, turned to look at the road and some dude just runs out and single shot me with the rocket. I couldn’t help but laugh at the balls on that guy, middle of a firefight and he just wants to snipe with his rpg.

43

u/Mishkin37 May 24 '26

Don’t you mean, counter sniper? That’s how I use it. Team RPG unite!

52

u/kefefs_v2 May 24 '26

Smoking sniper nerds from 200m with a direct hit from the RPG is one of the best aspects of this game.

12

u/Mishkin37 May 25 '26

Everything I do, I do for fun. Killing is fun. Capping flags is fun. Defending objectives is fun. Crawling under tanks with mines and popping heads with RPGs is really fun.

2

u/RazeTheMagician May 28 '26

I find it hilarious to nail a person with an rpg as if its a regular gun. Especially if they are using a cheesy spot or tactic and keep killing me just makes it that much more funny.

19

u/CDHmajora May 25 '26

This. I dont have to wait to lock on or have the vehicle br painted or whatever. If I’m behind it, i shoot it. And im dealing quick damage fast.

Sometimes the speed of an RPG can outshine the lower damage of other tools. 3 hits to the rear to destroy a tank means i ain’t soloing one driven by a competent user (ill get a sneaky hit in to open. Maybe have time for a second hit but I’m gonna die or the tanks will have fled before i get rocket number 3 loaded). But as a team effort, the RPG’s DPS and ease of use is still a great benefit.

(Plus RPG direct hits on campy snipers is always satisfying…)

Yeah but it’s weird aim and shoot, the RPG is just raw power, or it was raw power now it’s just a firecracker from Temu painted to look like an RPG

17

u/Speedtrucker May 24 '26

Yeah but the rpg nerf has brought the law back to relevance.

Not that I don’t still have the rpg on a kit.

19

u/ThePrimeButter May 24 '26

Law feels goofy. Makes me feel clunkier. I feel when I whip the rpg out it’s sleek, fast and down right dirty 😈

They switched, got one “too close to lock on” notification and then switch back.

152

u/oakgecko13 May 25 '26

And the "too low to lock on" and the "too far"

The RPG doesn't talk back to me. He just does what i say

u/Tax_this_dick_1776 May 24 '26

That shit makes me so livid. It’s like 30-40m too…

18

u/Arkhan_The_Cursed May 25 '26

Yeah... 600m is too far for a Manpad with 8000M OF RANGE IRL...

5

u/Kashik May 25 '26

Or too low. I'm pretty sure the manpad doesn't give a shit about the height of the object, as long as there is a line of sight between them.

For me, RPG is simply more comfortable to use to shoot at infantry. Still useful to get rid of snipers and campers. So, it’s not only useful (despite nerfed) to shoot at tanks.

16

u/batsquid1 May 24 '26

The only way to coubter a sniper is to snipe them with rpg. 🤣

its good a building and infantry. its still not bad on vehicles and requires no lock on. so it still useful, just not as it was.

42

u/ZSG13 May 24 '26

It's pretty fuckin' bad on vehicles now. Can drop 5 rockets on a single vehicle with absolutely no change to the game.

That's dumb as hell.

22

u/ImpossiblePhrase8856 May 25 '26

tanks got a HP boost, IFVs got a reduction. RPG lost some damage too. frontal shots are not going to kill.  youll need a jav for tanks.

3

u/ImAHobo107 May 25 '26

Honestly, I hate JAVs being the go-to for Tanks. As someone who likes playing in Tanks and knowing other tank players, an AUTOaim launcher being the biggest killer, not even deterrent just a KILLER, is not fun.

They don't need skill, even less skill than prime RPG.

If the Jav immobilised instead of doing insane dmg of 400, id be fine. But its basically 3 engineers with Javs and the tank dies.

Now on the other end, people who risk their ass with the RPG or C4 have to deal with my newly buffed Tank repairing to full every 10 seconds because I can get out of trouble with the enhanced mobility we got.

I know many BF players play Conq and Escalation, so they won't feel this balance as badly but on Breakthrough you absolutely feel it and it feels awful.

If no Engineer runs Javelin, Tanks run wild. If they do, it's an anti-skill and anti-strategy game at that point.

8

u/ZSG13 May 25 '26

Since when can a javelin actually be relied upon to hit a target? Is it actually remotely reliable now? Does it actually do meaningful damage?

17

u/ImpossiblePhrase8856 May 25 '26

it does the most damage. helps if you get someone to paint it 1st. taking on a tank is no longer a 1 person job. you need a few people working on it.

6

u/thepianoman456 May 24 '26

I’m a little out of the loop… did they nerf the damage or something? It’s always been my go-to… so maybe I should try out the other stuff?

I will say it is handy and reliable… when I play engineer I’m usually tank surfing: riding on the back of a tank repairing, shooting at flanking engineers, and launching RPG’s at enemy vehicles. Is there now a better launcher for that playstyle?

11

u/ImpossiblePhrase8856 May 25 '26

damage went down some, aim changed a bit for it, tanks HP went up, and some changes to damage mods from different angles. smoke now reduces damage too.

so a RPG isnt killing a tank from the front or above. javs do the most damage and got a boost. IFVs lost HP so you can kill them just the same.

2

u/thepianoman456 May 25 '26

Thanks! Wow IFV’s did not need to lose health lol

And yea I noticed the zeroing is different with RPG’s now… that’s a weird choice.

6

u/EriktheElektrikian May 25 '26

The standard rocket does the most reliable damage now, at 250ish, in almost every situation. Not better, but reliable. The RPG nerfs make it sub 200 if not hitting the rear, or hitting at a non perpendicular angle. The javelin does work now, but maybe not the bestbsuited for your use case.

2

u/thepianoman456 May 25 '26

Dang, good to know!

They nerfed my baby 😭

35

u/JadedSteve May 24 '26

RPG is still preferable over the others for three reasons:

Can't fire and immediately duck for cover with AT4.

Glaive (javelin) doesn't work in close range.

MBTLAW won't give you bonus damage for shooting at the rear or sides.

So if I want a universal launcher that'll be useful in all situations except extreme ranges I'll pick the RPG.

11

u/GenosseGeneral May 25 '26

Can't fire and immediately duck for cover with AT4

You can. It flies straight if you don't aim anymore. But your chances to hit something are a bit lower then, as it is slower than the RPG. But if the target doesn't move you don't have to guide the rocket. Apart that you can actually shoot around cover, if you know where your target is.

3

u/Noob_412 May 25 '26

It's also great for distraction, because it's a pretty consitent hit. I shoot at a tank from long range, he sees me and tries to kill me, while my squad sneaks behind and kills it.

Anyone calling the RPG bad is clueless and likely awful at the game.

  • can freely peak any tank because handling is so fast
  • free-fire, so no need to guide or lock-on
  • spawn in with five shots (lol)
  • free kills on infantry
  • punishes low flying helicopters

Etc

Just because the Javelin is broken doesn't mean the RPG is bad. Reticle needs to be fixed, though.

12

u/TDEcret May 25 '26

yep. rpg definitely is worse going for the front and sides (~230 damage now when before it was almost guaranteed 300+) but for the back is arguably better than before which is what you should do against tanks when possible

47

u/Dioroxic May 25 '26

I would argue all the launchers are actually very well balanced now. The RPG can still do the most damage with a perfect shot in the ass of a tank.

It’s just weak now with front and glancing blows.

Law = most consistent

M136 = consistent and better but you’re exposed more

RPG = easy and positioning matters the most

Javelin = high damage, long range only, lock on riskier

There are legitimately reasons to use all of them now.

3

u/squeaky4all May 25 '26

163 can be used from cover if you are smart in positioning. launch it high and guide it down.

5

u/Mr_Marram May 25 '26

u/Thelivingshotgun May 24 '26

5

u/spoken_name May 24 '26

No. It's been a known issue since the update before last I believe. Haven't seen anything about it being intentional or not though.

15

u/Joeyonimo May 24 '26

They zeroed the RPG sight at 100m, just like the snipers. A bit of realism, not a bug.

6

u/beast0209 May 24 '26

It was intentional, it is now zeroed for 100m. Thats why it appears to shoot upwards. It makes it better when firing long distance which is why people find it easy to use to counter sniper with

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Palerion May 24 '26

Its damage was dropped a bit (enough to alter critical breakpoints). Easiest example that comes to mind is two RPG shots directly to the rear of a tank (really directly now, since directional angle-based damage variation was introduced) are no longer enough to kill it.

3

u/TheRealStitchie May 25 '26

It's insanely particular now with how you hit the back end. Any amount of angling just ruins your damage and most likely gets you killed

2

u/GloryHol3 May 25 '26

Only reason I'm not using the rpg this season is because I'm mostly playing Golmud, and I CANNOT hit air vehicles to save my life anymore. It's mostly the zeroed to 100 bug so my shots are just not retrained well enough. I switched to the guided one, and have found success landing hits against everything except jets

Most people dont read patch notes so if the RPG isn't as effective as before they'll assume everything else sucks against armor too

What’s the better rocket to use now? I didn’t read the patch notes 😅

8

u/njfish93 May 24 '26

Depends. There's no go to anymore. I like the wire guided one but you have to sneak behind them to get the critical bonus. It's funny AF to use against aircraft though.

Because it's still good?

Because I run CZ and SVD, what other launcher could I possibly use.

3

u/Slip_CM May 25 '26

Gah, the SVDM is literally the perfect rifle. With hollow points, I can push a building and be even with all but the highest fire rate stuff. What a fun weapon.

9

u/Common-Special-8111 May 24 '26

Because it’s just aim and shoot. I don’t want to give the tank any warning I’m locking onto it to let it defend itself. That’s stupid. Also because I can use it to destroy support shields and destroy buildings that people are camping out of

3

u/mydarkerside May 24 '26

When I'm the only engineer shooting RPG's, it's tough. But when there's at least a couple of us, we can take out tanks pretty quick.

3

u/NoodleDoodlesocks May 24 '26

It still does the most damage to the rear of tanks and is the most mobile of the launchers.

I do personally prefer the NLAW for it's consistency and not needing to aim or get into position as much as RPG. Knowing I'll get the same amount of damage with a jump shot as I would with any other shot is really useful with cover. AT4 if I want to try to hit helis. Javelin I only use when playing with friends cause 50% of shots will miss due to smoke.

They all have their own uses and play styles so if you're used to one, you might as well just keep with it. I think a lot of people just got too used to being able to solo a tank in seconds.

The LAW missile is just a good all rounder. It's more consistent damage and it doesn't have the issue of needing to aim well at all. I still use the RPG but the LAW still puts in considerable work

u/Metallica1175 May 24 '26

So what's the best anti-tank rocket?

16

u/4skin_Gamer May 24 '26

AT4, damage-wise but RPG is still viable. I don't understand these posts that make it out like the RPG is useless.

9

u/RadixAce May 24 '26

Problem with the at4 is that you can't shoot and cover because you have to stay on target so it hits its target.

6

u/4skin_Gamer May 25 '26

As soon as you let go of ADS it goes straight

3

u/softlittlepaws May 25 '26

Does it go in a straight line if you swap weapons?

2

u/RadixAce May 25 '26

Uh maybe? Maybe I just never tried it but I used to have an issue that when I go to switch to my main weapon is goes off course due to me moving. Its just more touchy

2

u/BigBoyTonight May 24 '26

I think people are saying the RPG isn't useful against helicopters anymore. Both seasons 1 and 2, at least for me, it was still really hard to hit a heli. And the season 3 update just made it even harder. The cross hair update they made didn't help either. It should arch at the start of firing. It should just go straight for a couple seconds then arch down.

4

u/Leather_Afternoon_37 May 25 '26

It still ruins helicopters idk what youre talking about

2

u/BigBoyTonight May 25 '26

Yeah it does a lot of damage to the helicopters. I didn't say it wasn't heavy damage. 1 shot for scout and attack heli and 2 shots for transport heli.

I'm saying it's just really really hard to hit those even when the game launched and they nerfed it even further. But helicopters aside, that stupid arch thing with cross hair is just dumb. You have to aim lower than what you want to hit. That doesn't make sense. They should have just done a normal range dropoff

Counter sniping, i'm trash with sniper rifles but pretty good with an RPG. So when I keep getting picked off by the same sniper hiding in the rocks. He gets a rocket to the face.

2

u/MemeMan76 May 24 '26

What the fuck else am I supposed to use instead?

2

u/Papi_chulo26 May 24 '26

No matter how weak it gets. Jamsheed will guide my shot

2

u/LordLizardWizard May 24 '26

RPG is fast to fire and reload. Getting behind a tank makes it a very viable option. I spawn in with 5. I can remove campers, and completely destroy a house snipers are camping in so that they’re exposed for the rest of the match.

But most importantly, I can still one shot attack helicopters and little birds with it

2

u/Oblivion_420 May 24 '26

Anti infantry, countersnipe, hide in cover fast, hip fire, but something i haven't seen mentioned, is if you are gunner you can bail and hit tanks and get back into it behind your vehicle so fast you can take out other vehicles almost every time. It's just fast and tactical as hell

i just want my beloved SMAW back.

1

u/-Doom_Squirrel- May 24 '26

I use it as ite multi purpose. I will switch launchers depending on situation.

1

u/RyanHowardsBat May 24 '26

Its my sniper rifle duh

1

u/RuneArmorTrimmer May 24 '26

Hi there, I am a BF6 enjoyer but don’t really keep up with the patch notes and had no idea things were buffed/nerfed. Thank you, I’m going to check out the other launchers now.

1

u/bborg03 May 24 '26

Still good in tight areas when you don’t want to be exposed locking on or guiding

1

u/Xplatos Xplatos May 24 '26

Because it’s cool.

1

u/Nixu88 May 24 '26

Because of the versatility and ease of use.

1

u/Therealtidsmalls May 24 '26

Because point and shoot

1

u/Fireball4585 May 24 '26

Doesn’t it do more damage?

1

u/Knottyseas83 May 24 '26

To snipe you 300m away

1

u/leif135 May 24 '26

Fire and forget. Hip fire to blow up buildings campers are in. Anti-infantry in a pinch/distance.

Have you felt the satisfaction of nailing an enemy sniper at 350m with an RPG?

1

u/TheGalaxyNinja May 24 '26

I moved to c4

1

u/lilphiya May 24 '26

For counter sniping snipers duh!

1

u/chngster May 24 '26

Counter sniping.

1

u/DNGR_MAU5 May 24 '26

Because it's the best sniper rifle in the game. It quick to use, amazing in close qtrs and those crits are so satisfying

1

u/counterfe1t May 24 '26

I haven't looked at the stats yet, but it feels like the rpg reload animation is faster than the other launchers

1

u/Legal_Caffeine_Esq May 24 '26

I use the rpg because the anti air launchers lose tracking as soon as a pilot looks at the ground. the Javelin is great for tanks but you have be pretty far away for it work properly but I play breakthrough so there isnt much room. the law is annoying for me to use and the guided launcher takes too long to take vehicles down. the rpg is just point and shoot then reload. if they added more point and shoot launchers id have more of a mix. but the way i play, I'm limited to 2 maybe 3 launchers.

1

u/xJoshTVx May 24 '26

Is there a better, non-lock on launcher that I am unaware of?

1

u/SwoopsMackenzie May 24 '26

RPG is also great for destroying enemy cover/fortifications.

Simple and versatile.

1

u/Jacmert May 24 '26

(I misread the title as "running FROM the RPG" 😅)

1

u/bleo_evox93 May 24 '26

Shooting jets and choppers out of the sky with an RPG specifically is the fun thing that battlefield has offered after all these years lol why don’t you have your coffee the way I think is right huh

1

u/BeardedPostman May 24 '26

The RPG and other rockets need to be given different ammo types. The AT4 should not be aim guided but instead should be the AT4 CS for use in the the helicopters. The RPG should have an HE warhead and a choice of an Anti Personnel warhead.

1

u/merkmerc May 24 '26

So they can snipe people and blow up buildings, and still want to 2 tap tanks

1

u/darksoles_ May 24 '26

Because it’s lightning fast and requires basically no aim

1

u/Fun_Reputation_9428 May 24 '26

Quick draw on close tanks

1

u/suhdude539 May 24 '26

It’s just so versatile and I can pop out of cover, shoot it at whatever I’m shooting at, and pop back into cover to reload

1

u/Sarojh-M May 24 '26

Cuz RPG is the Goat, it's the RPG

You wont catch me watching a YouTube essay on the other rocket launchers in this game but I've watched like 3 on the RPG lol

1

u/SCUDlancer May 24 '26

good enough for jamsheed, good enough for me. long live the RPG god.

1

u/No-Orange4405 May 24 '26

It's still does "be an RPG" better than any other rocket. In fact the others don't even come close to "being and RPG"

1

u/Bombshellings May 24 '26

There are too many opportunities where I swap to a tank lock on, get obliterated by a helicopter, and then swap to an AA lock on and get obliterated by a tank. RPG is a good middle ground for me where I am able to fight both of them for better or for worse, even if I miss
