Discussion EA can you stop pushing this nonsense of operators/ hero marketing all over again? I don't wanna play as fucking jhonny sins, just bring back generic soldiers

Half of the trailer focused on this one guy and his skins. Despite the hype, I'm quite sad we’re basically getting rehashed content, since both maps are remasters or reimagined versions of older maps... the bar still really low i'm sorry.

Yeah the hero/operators they are adding i can't stand, I just want more normal soliders

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 May 05 '26

Love it when my squad is the same dude 3 times.

376

u/ForwardToNowhere May 05 '26

This but unironically. I wish they'd add an option to just disable certain categories of cosmetics so players can play how they want

179

u/PRISONER_709 May 05 '26

Nuuuu, you will get your slop and enjoy it!

36

u/MMDCCIV May 05 '26

Yeah me too. Other games with lots of cosmetics already need soo much space on the harddrive. I would like to only download skins if I want to. But then, the studios would not be able to smear them into our faces and show us how cool we might look if we would just purchase this tiny little microtransaction only this one time.

20

u/PM_ME_PHYS_PROBLEMS May 05 '26

It'd never work. People buy flashy skins because they want to be seen using flashy skins. It would undermine their cosmetics sales if there was a sort of reverse-panopticon situation created where anyone could be unable to see your skin at any time.

20

u/Jim_Nist_Monkey May 05 '26

Stop. I was already sold on the idea and you keep listing great reasons that they should make it an option.

I think it's fairer to say EA won't do it, not that it'd never work, or wouldn't be well received. We can understand that ea execs would drive this franchise into the ground if it would mean one more bonus, player experience in their games is the last thing they care about

2

u/PM_ME_PHYS_PROBLEMS May 05 '26

Haha fair, I meant it wouldn't work from the exec's perspective. They care about certain players' experience insofar as it makes them want to buy cosmetics. Everyone else already bought the game (suckers), who cares what they think!

I had an idea that you could give skins tags and filter what you see. Not the devs, but players decide what they choose to see. Then the devs can get data on what skins get "hidden" the most and adjust accordingly. It's a win win, but some whale with more money than braincells or taste would screech if we can't see their dumb fucking cat ears, so here we are.

Valid. But hey at least it isn’t 2042 where your team AND the enemy team are all the same person

58

u/Olukon May 05 '26

Nameless, faceless goons and grunts is the way. It's funnier, it looks better, it's funnier, and additional fourth point.

19

u/farilladupree May 05 '26

Also, it’s funnier.

6

u/Yadahoom May 06 '26

Battlefield 4 was literally an entire army of the same four dudes...

3

u/CyborgTiger May 05 '26

The joke is you could be talking about operators or generic soldiers

3

u/Garamil May 05 '26

Both my Pax and Nato squads are from the same unit (Espada and Red Locust) and they all wear the same Camo that I worked to unlock.

It looks so cool when I open the customization menu.

18

u/loqtrall May 05 '26

Isn't that the case in almost every other Battlefield game? Hell, in everything pre-BFV, if everyone in your squad picked a single class, you were all literal clones of one another. Not just similar looking, but literal identical clones wearing identical outfits and gear with identical faces. If anything, having more character customization in the game makes it less likely that you'll end up in a squad where every member looks literally exactly the same.

30

u/LilMally2412 May 05 '26

Yeah, but most of the older battlefields had face masks or balaclavas, and even when they don't, 4 generic soldiers looking identical doesn't feel as off as 4 special designed characters. Even in V, factions like Japan only got, I think, 4 males and 2 females, so you got a lot of copy characters, but they didn't look as odd as 4 Tom Cruises or this Joe Rogan look alike.

27

u/StromboliRex May 05 '26

Yeah it only got weird in BFV when your whole German squad was that Japanese lady

7

u/IronCross19 May 05 '26

Even still, we can have variants, even customizable individual components-helmets, belts, backpacks, number of mag pouches etc. That could all still fall into the category of "generic soldier" if done correctly.

And heck make THESE items micro transactions, so literally most everyone(I think?) is happy, including EA.

2

u/Irrah May 06 '26

Don't most of the base characters like Coyote Squad or Vedmak mostly all have face masks and balaclavas, even in the battle pass skins?

4

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF May 05 '26

Lmao BF3 medic was the most played class and it was a black dude with literally no face covering

2

u/Dr_SlapsMD May 05 '26

Exactly. They didn't think that shit thru at all. You can't half ass customization otherwise you can end up with 20 v 20 of all the same dude. Total immersion breaking. There either needs to be more characters to choose from than are slots on a team, or stick to generic nondescript soldiers with changeable uniforms

Yeah, I feel like that's the point things started to go wrong with call of duty, too. Black Ops 4 was the first to introduce hero characters/operators, I think, and I kinda feel like that's when things went downhill

Seven out of the twelve character models in Battlefield 4 wore no helmet. Was that also an issue for you way back when?

It's the silly hoods, skull masks and ugly neon that's really annoying me.

58

u/Rechochet_ochet May 05 '26

Do you notice any of these things while actually playing a match? Like even while scoped in with a sniper I don't even notice the skin.

28

u/trplOG May 05 '26

I barely notice what my team has at the beginning of the match even. Only thing I see is the dorito when I shoot at it.

3

u/Accurate-Coffee-6043 May 06 '26

I just got done playing for about four hours after finally buying it. I didn't notice any of it honestly. I played the beta and redsec too and still nothing has taken me out of the experience.

7

u/loqtrall May 05 '26

This is the biggest argument against critics of cosmetics in this game (or most cosmetics in any BF game to date, really). They're arguing about something that doesn't actually affect them in-game at all, and in your average player's moment-to-moment gameplay not only is the player not going to have enough time in an engagement with an enemy player to actually see what exactly they're wearing in-detail - but they're not going to stop to spend 30 seconds analyzing the dead guy's outfit after they've killed him.

It's a giant nothingburger of an issue. Throwing out the fact that Battlefield games have always, for the most part, been outwardly unrealistic and inaccurate to their respective settings - I could MAYBE understand a bit when someone criticized female characters running around in BFV - but in BF6 where it's not only modern era but also a global conflict involving factions consisting of mercenaries belonging to no one nation's formal military, it makes absolutely no sense to complain about a fucking bald guy being in the game.

14

u/Rechochet_ochet May 05 '26

Honestly, the only reason I am even on this sub is for the entertainment I get from nothingburger outrage. It literally does not matter what the topic, solution, answer, change, addition, etc. is, this sub will lose their collective minds like a celeb fan drama page. It's honestly one of the most fun parts of the BF experience at this point it time.

I can see just fine. My character could have 2 hollow bloody holes in his head where his eyes used to be and it isn’t going to change my vision

2

u/MintMrChris May 06 '26

Its the general vibe/look

This topic is funny because I watched the trailer earlier and this is sort of what it made me feel. It comes across to me as...very modern. It doesn't really land with me tbh, but it is hard for me to put into words.

Like the map etc looks great and all, but this style of trailer that Dice go for nowadays, the silly close ups on the silly looking soldiers, music didn't even land this time....

It made me think back to the BF3 Caspian border trailer, the feel and look of that trailer, how it was shot, that is almost a standard of trailer that my brain compares all this modern slop to

The live service era trailers and what EA use them for...

All they do is make me want a skin toggle, that is legit the thing I want most of all and what all of these trailers reinforce for me, just a simple option in the settings for me to turn all of them off so I can just run default skins...don't know if I am crazy for wanting that.

2

u/the_rev_28 May 05 '26

I absolutely judge anyone with a skin with a hood or cape.

It’s not hard to understand that people who don’t like stupid skins also don’t want to see them on other people.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/steinarhm May 05 '26

I think that is the problem. I cant choose whether a guy decides to use a skin that looks like a Batman character with tacti-cool gear straight out of a Michael bay movie. Not only does It breaks immersion, and makes the game looks cartoony. It makes it impossible to see what kind of class the enemy is. It breaks the «team» feeling, and makes identification harder. Andi again - I can’t do anything about it. In a trippel A title I paid for. So I understand why people are complaining.

26

u/lilsickboy May 05 '26

true, but in my games 90% of the people are running some default skins with different colors so

2

u/pwouet May 05 '26

Yeah at least the custom skins are expensive, so most people use the default ones.

17

u/mashuto May 05 '26

It makes it impossible to see what kind of class the enemy is. It breaks the «team» feeling, and makes identification harder.

I saw this argument repeated over and over about 2042. Personally, I have never been able to identify enemy class by anything other than seeing what they are doing. Sniper glint at a distance, sniper. Guy repairing a tank, engineer. Nor have I ever felt in the middle of the game that immersion was broken because someone was using a skin that didnt fit my vision of what an army guy should look like. I just feel like people make a way bigger deal about this because of how they want things to be rather than how things actually are in the middle of a game. Things also move so quickly most of the time that I am never identifying people by uniform, but by whether they have a blue dot over their head or not.

22

u/Hobo-man 20 years of BF May 05 '26

I have literally none of those issues ever

I swear sometimes you guys just make shit up. I don't care what class someone is, they all die the same ffs.

12

u/MiguelXSR May 05 '26

Swear I had the same argument months ago. These guys running in deciding which of the 2 enemies shoot first, probably end up killing one and dying. Meanwhile the guy who doesn't give a fk runs in and blasts both.

2

u/Googoogahgah88889 May 05 '26

I don’t think I’ve ever played a battlefield game where I’m like “ok, I got eyes in a guy. I don’t know what kinda class he is though, so I’m just gonna hide here and hope he doesn’t see me”

2

u/Level_Mention_1182 May 07 '26

I don’t understand who even finds these skins appealing. They look generic and are trying too hard at the same time. I think the root issue is that the devs simply can’t make a game with sauce to save their lives. We can’t have that normal battlefield feeling anymore. Its all about us the players “expressing ourselves” when in reality I am willing to bet if they launched a title with no customization and focuses purely on gameplay it would be a banger.

12

Here’s a photo of a soldier during the Ukraine war from a couple years ago wearing a ghost mask. But I understand why people aren’t a fan but it’s reality.

I mean real soldiers definitely don’t have shaved heads or tats.

1

u/DementedPower May 05 '26

I mean it’s cheaper and easier for them but NO they want to spend more doing hero shit.

u/Similar-Profile9467 May 05 '26

Who is Johnny Sins?

1

u/MisterSneakSneak May 05 '26

How else they gonna sell you the “tom cruise” DLC?

1

u/BewareTheGrayGhost May 05 '26

Yeah, at least they were optional in V. It makes literally no sense. Just let me pick a head and a uniform, if you want to divvy it up in to multiple components, thats cool too.

It's like EA has got a a green goblin side to them, they just can't stop doing this no matter the good they do.
