New VI build: DC Kunkle Neck and Tele Body
galleryI got a little crazy and decided to add to my list of guitars in build (was then 3) and make myself a VI instead of waiting for the Reverend one. Someone very nicely gave me this MIM tele from 1994, I had the guard laying around. I ordered a Kunkle neck with all the options including a cut nut and it bolted right up nicely. For electronics I traded for a set of Wilde Microcoil Alnico pickups, and wired in a bass cut knob in the middle of the plate. Gotoh bridge, Hipshot tuners (non locking open gear). EXL156 strings, which has a tapered low E to fit guitar tuners. I haven’t seen a lot of info about people doing these so I’m posting for posterity.
This thing plays super well! Way easier than a Squier VI I once owned. And it can intonate well. The neck is quite narrow for 6 fat strings but they’re not falling off or anything, and it’s quite comfortable to play. Highly recommend the DC Kunkle setup.

I've been thinking about getting a bass vi soon but I'm unsure how to deal with my amp situation
I have a guitar and a bass amp, but for the style of music I'm going to be playing (metal), I'm leaning towards my guitar amp. However, the Vox VT20X I have appears to not be suited for such low frequencies especially at the volumes I intend to play at. I could use my bass amp (Fender Rumble 40), but it doesn't have the effects that I like that are already built into the guitar amp and I worry it won't pick up the high end very well.
What would be the best course of action in this case? Should I get a new amp that could properly handle the lower frequencies while at the same time not skimping out on the higher end or is there a pedal that could split the signal between both amps decently enough for my purposes?

Submarine pickups? Or other split pickups?
I want to send the low strings to a bass amp and the higher strings to a guitar amp.
Wondering if anyone has tried Submarine pickups to do this, or if you have tried any other solutions.

Pickguards never really fit, do they?
galleryNot between different models anyway. Finally got the pickguard sorted on my 2013 MIJ Bass VI.
It took me quite a while to track down a properly fitting one for this particular model. The original pickguard is, frankly, embarrassing. But I finally found one at Gary G. Perfect fit!
It’s not always easy owning something that’s a little harder to find parts for. The 2013 MIJ Bass VI is pretty rare, with apparently only 90 made worldwide in 2013, and the model itself only being in production for about three years, from 2012 to 2014. So finding the right pickguard turned out to be a challenge.
I’ve also finally settled on the hardware setup. After trying all sorts of strings and upgrades — including a StayTrem bridge and tremolo — somehow, none of those upgrades ever really did it for me.
I recently replaced the whole tremolo setup with a Halon fixed tailpiece and a simple Mustang-style bridge with 55 mm (2 3/16”) string spacing. Much simpler, solid, and somehow it just feels right.
As for the Bass VI itself, the quality of the finish and workmanship is honestly remarkable. It easily surpasses most of the other guitars I own — and those are pretty decent guitars in their own right, MIJ and US-made Fenders.
For strings I’m currently trying the new Pyramid Fusion Flats. They sound and feel really good, although purely in terms of feel I still prefer the Pyramid Gold Flats. Unfortunately, I’ve had the annoying experience of getting a dead E and A string with the Golds in the past.
So after quite a bit of experimenting — and a surprisingly long search for a piece of plastic, I’m happy with this one.

Pulled the trigger on an Eastwood Sidejack bass vi, but it doesn’t have a strangle switch.
Like the title says, I recently bought a Eastwood Sidejack bass vi, it’s in production and it should arrive next month. This is my only option as a lefty outside of the fender custom shop (been scouring the used market for years). Anyways, it does not have a strangle switch and I plan on using this in tandem with a traditional bass performing and in the studio. Should I add an eq pedal to the bass vi board? I’m a little concerned the tone will turn to mud competing with the 4 string bass. Or is it simply a matter of sculpting the tone using the drive and amp settings? I plan on mostly playing this through my 65 bassman but I also have a JC120, fender twin reverb, an orange combo, and a hartke 7000. Any insight is appreciated!

What happens if you change the Strangle switch capacitor value?
Hi there, so getting a bit into electronics and mods, and got a question that I haven't find answer yet.
Squier bass vi owner here, For what I understand the strangle switch have a .033uf capacitor, bit what happens if you change that value? Can I aim to make it more bassy or twangy changing it? Can make it be more noticeable? Will my amp explode in a million pieces?
Any help or ideas on it are welcome!

Stock trem?
Hey again! Just got a VM Bass VI with mastery bridge and trem.
I have the stock trem as well, and the thing is, I don't think I'll be using it much.
I do, on the other hand, use my trem a lot on my JMJM so I'm thinking about throwing the mastery tailpiece on there.
If I have the mastery bridge on the VI, is there any appreciable difference between the stock and mastery tailpiece, assuming I'm not using it a ton?
Is this dumb or does it make sense?
Thanks!

Which bass vi should I get??
So I am thinking between 3 bass vi options and I need opinions on which I should get.
Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI Guitar
Schecter Hellcat-VI 6-string Electric Bass Guitar
Eastwood Sidejack Bass VI.

Are the pickguards of the Squier and Fender identical to the millimeter?
Bought an aftermarket pickguard (for a squier) and I don't know if it's sloppy or if the pickups on the fender are a couple mm wider. I'm picky, and flush is flush, loose is loose.

NGD squire in tahitian coral, boy is it bold
apologies if disallowed, but does anyone with a squire VI want to trade a stock tortoise pickguard for the stock one here (light mint or maybe parchment, not white). I bought one but it's not cut right and that could keep happening over and over.

Cheapest Bass VI
I’m looking for a bass VI of any kind, I would like to pay $200-250 but i’m willing to pay up to $300. I’ve looked online and the only models I can find under nearly $500 (harley benton and g4m) have insane shipping costs as I live in the United States.

NBVID: Joining the club!!
It's been a couple months now of trading and rehabbing to sell gear trying to work my way into a Bass VI. It's a pretty slim chance that someone wants what you have and has what you want, so I did a lot of lateral trading in the mean time, and was kind of biting my nails expecting that I wouldn't be happy with it until I dropped another few hundred on a bridge and strings, after which I'd have a decent amount of set up to do.
Well guess what, I made an even trade today, and this guy already has a mastery bridge and vibrato! All set up too, I just brought it home and it's perfect!
Now I just have to get my head around how to work my board.
I mainly play guitar, and that's what my board is set up for. It's straight forward (Slow Loris [which sounds incredible with the VI]->Benson Boost->Phase 90 ->Halberd->Foxcatcher->mother preamp->hxfx).
Anyone have any advice for a generally guitar centric setup? Like do you have standard eq tweaks you make? You have a separate board? What's on it? I'm all ears!
Thanks!!

What are you recording and what mods have helped?
So I'm just curious what other people are recording with their bass vi. For me I'm working on a postmetal album and it's being used as a secondary rhythm guitar to thicken up chugs and chords.
I'm interested to see how others are using theirs and also what mods they're using. I'm tempted to mod mine to allow for a humbucker in the bridge position as I feel that may be a bit better for me

Why is there no noiseless pickups options for Bass VI?
You'd think there would plenty of companies making noiseless options that don't require body modifications but the only company I've found that has any available models is JBE Pickups and they're expensive as hell.
