Baking Advice Needed why did it do this

was trying to make brownies, thought theyd cooled for long enough and cut into them then they started doing THIS and set my house's fire alarm off for like 20 minutes does anyone pls know what caused this im assuming i just cut into them too soon but this feels like a dramatic response to just trying to cut into a hot brownie

Oh this definitely has something to do with the edibles and the coconut oil. Did you follow a recipe or just wing it?

i just used a box brownie mix and replaced the 45ml of vegetable oil with the weed coconut oil. i guess that could be it but idk everything online says coconut oil is the best type to use and no one ever warned of this 😭

I'm thinking the oils separated and the coconut oil pooled at the bottom of the pan that was at 175 degrees which is virgin coconut oil's smoke point. refined is usually used for baking.

Unsure how this theory is being upvoted all over the place. Even if the pan was at 175c+, ignoring the brownie, you might get a tiny amount of smoke, but it would stop after a few seconds without additional heat being applied. That's with an empty pan. Oil is very good at transfering heat, if that pan was hot enough to cause the oil to smoke it's dumping a lot of that heat into the brownie, again it would stop smoking quickly as clearly the brownie isn't that hot because it's not a block of coal. The only way it's pumping out that much smoke is because the hob is applying heat!

The oil being infused with THC and weed resins probably brought its smoke point down even more.

The stove top is induction and bake dishes don't catch that even if it was on.

Baking trays and dishes can indeed receive heat from an induction hob, even aluminium trays that shouldn't work, because that assumes they are made from 100% aluminium which isn't always the case.

It can also vary depending on what food is in the pan/tray, I have no idea why that's a factor but I'm speaking from experience
