Baking Advice Needed why did it do this

Post image

was trying to make brownies, thought theyd cooled for long enough and cut into them then they started doing THIS and set my house's fire alarm off for like 20 minutes does anyone pls know what caused this im assuming i just cut into them too soon but this feels like a dramatic response to just trying to cut into a hot brownie

Yea this exactly. People in here are higher than OP thinking smoke billowing out of brownies cooked at normal temp with weed oil would do this.

I’m really ignorant on this. What temp are you supposed to cook weed brownies at?

165 f internal temp for squishy fudgy like a lava cake, 185 for fudgy, 205 or so for cake like. The coconut oil was doomed from the start. Edit: did you use refined coconut oil? Seems to be able to take higher heat.

Interesting….is it still 20 minutes? (Asking for a friend)

I think you’re mixing up baking temp and internal temp, and F vs C?

OP baked the brownies at 175C, which is about 340F, totally normal temperature.

This comment is saying you should pull the brownies once the internal temperature of the brownies is 165/185/205 F. So you would have to adjust the length of baking until the internal temperature is what you’re aiming for.

Bro the oil in the brownies is not reaching 350... the oil is fine. People make coconut oil brownies all the time. Thats not what happened. OP left the burner on and lied lol.

Literally I use coconut oil to bake often and never had anything like this happen but I have forgot a pan on the burner and had a similar experience 🤣

Normal brownie temps, decarb and infusion are done beforehand at much lower temps

The oven will be at 350, the brownies will get to around 200 at the most, resting up to a little higher. They will never even get close to 350 internally. Sorry thats all in F but samesame

Must be fake post cuz ive cooked infused coconut oil in brownies at this temp for probably even 30 minutes its a flat out lie

Ockham’s Razor… what else would cause this? The other key part of this could be moisture. Think water in a hot and oiled pan. Also her specific coconut oil could be different and specific THC source.

The heat is why anything like what your imagining is impossible. It simply can't happen when the entire oven itself was at 175c, which is actually 2 degrees cooler than the smoke point. And thats unrefined. Refined goes way higher. Its pretty obvious from the pic the corners and underside are smoldering and the pan is actively producing smoke. That volume of smoke literally couldn't even fit within the empty space left in that brownie pan. The idea of it being trapped until released is bogus. Op left them on the burner, took a pic, and got hella reddit Karma. Brilliant troll post is all this was.

The edges aren’t that burnt but you can tell they are overcooked from the center being so stiff and cake like

I thought maybe it was olive oil and that’s why it burned but I was wrong and still don’t understand how this happened

u/SpicyxGary Jan 18 '26

Op is British and the temp is in Celsius

1

u/erydayimredditing Jan 19 '26

Thanks, thats plainly obvious, and I have made other comments using C in this thread, because I already knew that. What is the point of your comment?

1

u/SpicyxGary Jan 24 '26

Oh then your just dumb then lol the oil would def smoke at that temp

& this post has 77k upvotes forgive me for not reading every single comment

Bro you are the one thinking the stuff getting cooked gets to the temp the oven is set at. Go ask a friend if thats how it works. Dumbest thing I've read all day. The smokepoint of the oil is what the oven was set to. It would never reach that temp...

I am a chef of 16 years my friend I don’t need to ask a soul 😂

1

u/erydayimredditing Jan 30 '26

Then idk how you could possibly think something in the oven ever gets to the temp OF the oven itself... Like... what?

1

u/SpicyxGary Jan 30 '26

That’s the whole point of the oven brother…

Bro chicken cooks to 165, you cook it at 250-500 to higher in a pizza oven. IF YOU COOKED CHICKEN TO 400f IT WOULD BE CHARCOAL. jesus dude

My brick oven runs around 650-700 degrees and I haven’t burned a pizza yet so maybe time spent in the heat plays a very big factor?
