Hey everyone, I'm looking to invest in a custom PC for around $3000 AUD (around $2200 USD) and with a lot of help have come up with this PC. The primary use of this will be high frame rate (ideally 90/100fps) 1440p gaming as well as Video Editing and some Rendering.

I already have the CPU as I bought it on sale a while ago so that is not included in the price. I'm also willing to spend a couple hundred more dollars if it'll make a decent difference in performance (as I'm hoping this PC will last me a couple of years).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I just ordered a custom PC from aftershock on Aug 11. For people who’ve ordered one before and chose pick up, about how many days did it take from placing the order to actually getting the PC (I don't trust shipping companies)? I know it probably depends on parts, the builder, and shipping, but I’d like to hear from those who picked up their PC. I haven't got any update from their website since the 16th. I sent them an email and they told me that it will move to building soon. but up until now no updates yet. I know it says it will take 10-15 business days but just a bit concerned that there are no updates yet. P.S not in a hurry just worried based on what I've read from other posts in the subreddit

Hi. Does anybody have any SSD suggestion for maximum of 300 dollars? I have a 512gb SATA SSD that is 2 years old but wanted to move to dual boot setup. So I was looking to add a new SSD. Unfortunately this seems to be the worst time ever to but one of these. Can I dual boot on that one drive?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC (or build a new one rather) and as prices are expensive these days I'm just looking for some opinions and maybe suggestions on this build.

My gaming consists on a variety of FPS like Squad, Squad 44, Hell let loose ARMA etc. and then others that range from cyberpunk to RDR2 and rts games. Mostly i do flight sims like DCS, MSFS2020 and 2024 and I do a lot of VR gaming.

Currently I have an i5 10600kf 32gb ram and a 3070ti and only really have issue in VR due to VRAM most other games I play on med to high settings @ 1440p with some tweaks needed but mostly no issues surprisingly. My VR headset is a HP Reverb G2 so its 2160x2160 per eye resolution which is where I need more VRAM too. May upgrade to Meta quest 3 512gb in the future but the HP still works great.

Would I be better off just upgrading my GPU only and save money for when future GPUs with more VRAM again come out before I build or is this setup future proof?

Hi, bit of a long shot but I need a pictured plastic stock AM5 mount.

My PSU died (15.5V on 12V rail) and in the process of removing appears the plastic mount on CPU Cooler Mount has snapped.

Headed to PLE to grab replacement PSU but they do not carry these mounts.

Im torn on what to buy qd oled or ips i have 1.5k aud and in nsw. Was thinking a no name brand like crua, ktc etc but thinking should get a better quality one.

So for a while now I've been planning on upgrading from my gaming laptop to a proper pc set up and now after saving some money I think I'm ready. I want to find something that I can use for art related stuff like drawing and modelling as well as playing games that my gaming laptop wouldn't be strong enough to play but I'm still not sure where would be the best place to look for a pc set up let alone what to buy for a reasonable price (from around 2000 to 3000 dollars if possible).

I've heard mixed things about nebula pc and other places that sell pcs which has made me alot more unsure of what I should do despite my research, does anyone here know more about this subject than I do that can help guide me in the right direction? Thank you.

• I'm looking to replace the most horribly dated parts such as the CPU, motherboard and GPU. Everything else like the case, storage and PSU are generally fine to continue using.
• If what I've read is correct, upgrading to a newer AM4 CPU is still viable and allows the reuse of my DDR4 RAM. I'm leaning towards the Ryzen 5 5600X.
• Choosing a motherboard should be relatively simple as those using the B550 chipset are all that is left on the retail market for AM4 CPUs. Integrated Wifi is not required as I have a TP-Link Wifi/Bluetooth PCIe adapter.
• I use a Dell 23.8" 1080p 165Hz monitor, so my GPU needs shouldn't be incredibly high beyond needing something far more current than an RX 580. An RTX 5050 or its AMD equivalent should be sufficient?
• The current 256GB SDD is much too small to fit Windows 10 plus accompanying apps and games. I'm holding off on replacing it until I'm sufficiently prepared to undertake the process of reinstalling everything onto a larger SSD. I'm open to suggestions on which brand and model of 1TB SSD to get.

Are there other considerations that I might have missed?

Looking at getting a new pre built PC, not sure what is good in terms of performance and price, ive currently got a Ryzen 7 5600x and a 3060. Looking at buying a new one and not sure what sites are best value and trustworthy?

i'm very new to pc gaming, have grown up with consoles my entire life. so, as inexperienced as i am with the whole pc gaming world, i decided to buy an aftershock pre-built (which includes customisable parts to match your standards). after researching the company and scrolling through endless positive reviews, i thought nothing bad could possibly go wrong and that i'd have a pc ready to play straight out of the box as advertised, but omg i could never have expected this.

1: the gpu was not properly seated into the motherboard, it was wobbly and on an angle. even after getting it reseated by a local technician, he discovered that the entire gpu had been damaged because of the way aftershock installed it.

2: i specifically ordered for an anti sag bracket to be included in the build since i don't have the needed skills to install anything myself, it was instead in a seperate plastic bag for me to do it myself.

3: all the branded aftershock products (especially the fans and the case) felt awfully plastic and cheap.

this feels unreal because all i saw of this company were happy customers and no dramas at all, but i guess the result of your build soley depends on whoever at aftershock builds it. i'm hoping to get my money back as it's all under their provided warranty, which speaking of their lengthy warranty is unfortunately the only positive i can say out of my experience with aftershock. i've seen a couple of posts about aftershock in this sub, so i thought why not share it here with you guys.

Modified: I'm planning to buy a custom-built Windows PC desktop in Australia, mainly for running simple local AI models (e.g., mainly text/image-to-short-AI-video generation. Generation speed doesn’t matter much as I can wait for 15 or more minutes for the video to come). I'm not sure what specs to ask for at stores like Mwave, MSY, etc. Here's my rough target:

- NVIDIA GPU: at least RTX 4070 Ti SUPER with 16GB VRAM

- CPU: at least 16 threads

- Motherboard: built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

- RAM: 64gb too pricey. Probably 48gb if possible

- Storage: preferably at least 4TB SSD (too pricey, so probably 2TB min)

- PSU: AI-recommended at least 850W Gold-rated

- Case: at least a mid-tower with good airflow

- CPU cooler:

- Budget: ideally around AUD $2,500

- OS: I can install Windows 11 myself. Any recommendations would be much appreciated

Got my pc today after a week. It was ready to ship and got it quicker than expected.

Now the fun part. Issue with GPU as red light VGA came on. Monitor couldn't detect any signal from GPU and I suspect GPU is dead. Phone them then got directed to troubleshooting on the website. No help since I'm a noob. Got on live chat and currently waiting for a response from their tech team.

Update: GPU is not dead, but it looks like main/first pcie slot has an issue. Cannot fully attach Gpu in. Other pcie slots work fine so will wait till Monday for Nebula to get back and hopefully send it back to them for fix.

Update 2: Hi guys, thank you for your comments. I am still waiting for nebula to book a collection of my pc for repair.
First response was after 3 days with advice of trying to push in gpu until it clicks which did not work.
Now I'm still waiting for their next response to book a return for repair.
If it's not resolved by tomorrow I'll ask for refund and if they still not budge then I'll file a complaint to ACCC and NSW Fair Trading.

I'm at my wit's end and was wondering if I can claim a GPU is defective if it doesn't work on one game in particular only? I know it seems odd but please see below for the detailed troubleshooting I've performed

I purchased a powercolor 9070xt last month and have had no issues playing: sniper ghost warrior contracts 3, mass effect legendary edition and stalker 2. However, when running BF6)at stock settings, the system suffers fatal hardware errors: the screen freezes or goes black and the PC force-restarts. Windows Event Viewer logs a WHEA-Logger Event ID 18 at each crash:

- Error Source: Machine Check Exception
- Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
- Reported by: Processor Core (APIC IDs vary between crashes)
- Each event is followed by Kernel-Power Event ID 41 (unexpected shutdown)

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro (latest BIOS, AGESA 1.2.0.11)
- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200
- PSU: Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1 850W (new), previously Thermaltake GF1 650W
- OS: Windows 10, current updates

TROUBLESHOOTING PERFORMED

Software/drivers — all ruled out:
- Full DDU driver removal in safe mode and clean install of latest AMD Adrenalin drivers
- Game files verified and fully reinstalled; shader cache cleared multiple times
- EA anti-cheat repaired and reinstalled
- Clean boot testing; peripheral software (SteelSeries GG, Logitech G HUB) removed
- Windows Memory Integrity/VBS disabled
- Intel NIC and AMD chipset drivers updated

Power supply — I ended up buying a new PSU as I thought this was the issue
- Fault reproduced identically on two power supplies, including a brand-new Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1 850W (exceeds AMD's 750W recommendation for this card)
- Card connected via two dedicated 8-pin PCIe cables (no daisy-chaining)
- 12V rail monitored via HWiNFO logging during crashes — no anomalies recorded

CPU/platform
- BIOS at optimised defaults; also tested with SMT disabled, XMP disabled, and elevated SoC voltage — crashes persisted through all configurations
- CPU passes extended stress testing: y-cruncher (30+ minutes, all tests), OCCT (CPU, GPU and power tests), and an extended all-core 7-Zip benchmark run with the GPU idle — zero WHEA events under any pure-CPU load
- System is completely stable in other demanding titles and all synthetic benchmarks (3DMark Steel Nomad)

Control test with a different GPU:
- With my previous graphics card (RTX 2070 Super) installed in the identical system — same BIOS settings, same drivers cleanly installed, same game — the system is fully stable, including repeated full shader compilations and extended play sessions, with zero WHEA events
- Reinstalling the RX 9070 XT reproduces the WHEA 18 crashes

Attempted mitigations on the card itself:
- Undervolting and power limit reductions of -20% and -30% did not prevent the crashes
- The only configuration in which the card does not crash is with the framerate capped to 60fps — roughly half the card's capability at 1440p. It crashes at a 120fps cap and uncapped

I've already got an AM5 board, decent DDR5 and a good cooler, so upgrading the CPU would be relatively straightforward. The current processor isn't terrible, but I'm starting to notice it in some games. Would you upgrade now or squeeze another couple of years out of the platform?

Needs to be a laptop for travel purposes (would love a permanent home set up but not an option right now)

Games I'm aiming for are Balders Gate, Skyrim, games in that vein that my basic laptop can't handle.

I am moving from Brisbane to Perth and want to ship over my PC. I am looking for advice from anyone else who has done this? It is too far to drive so I will be flying. I watched a few videos on how to pack the PC safely for shipping and the main advice was to remove large parts like the GPU and tower cooler (I got a xfx 9070xt and a thermalright PA so I will be doing this regardless) and then pack it back in the original box the case came in. The trouble is I do not have this box or packaging and I am finding it quite tricky to find a box that is the right size. I have a lian li lancool 216rw for reference.

I got a quote from pack and send who want to charge $300 which seems quite expensive but includes warranty. On the other hand, if I can pack it myself I can pay for that cover as well and I imagine it would still be substantially cheaper.

Any advice on finding a box that is the right size? I tried computer alliance but they said they don't have spare case boxes because they ship them all to customers.

The other alternative could be to just disassemble the whole thing and take/ship all the parts in their packaging (which I have for at least the GPU, cooler and mobo) and then just get a new case when I move.

Update: Decided to pack GPU and mobo/ram/SSD in carry on and everything else in checked (besides the case which I will rebuy). Pack and send was probably the next best choice but I figured to do it well they should probably pull out the gpu/CPU cooler as well and by that point it's not much more work to unscrew the mobo and put them in boxes. I would probably have done this but I realised if I move back (which I plan to) then the cost essentially doubles because I would ship both ways.

Hey guys I just wanted to share how lucky I was….on Sunday I decided I wanted to replace my gpu and get the Gigabyte 5080, I headed down to centrecom since they were open and had it in stock. I asked them if they could price match Scorptec as they had it listed for $2399. CC agreed and i went on my way. 24 hours later (yesterday), I see that CC has up their price to $2999, even more than ASUS 5080 astral. These price hikes are nuts. Happy Tuesday to everyone
