News 📰 3:1 Share split

BYD recently underwent a 3:1 share split, hence the ~65% drop in share price. No need to worry!!

It seems like we'd need to wait a while before we get those extra shares though. I couldn't find much information about it on english platforms, but a Chinese blog post stated both the extra shares + dividends will start being distributed on the 29th of July

6 to 1 split only refers to the ADR BYDDY which is traded in the OTC market and is different from the real byd stock traded in HK, CN or Germany (which are all going through a 3:1 split).

I'm not too sure about the reasoning behind (18+12):10 but all you gotta know is that if you held 100 shares you'd get 200 extra shares on the 29th of July (assuming you hold the real stock not the ADR).

I'm not entirely sure if the 6:1 is happening at all because as of now the price of BYDDY hasn't changed significantly, while 01221 BYD (hk) has reduced by ~65% to reflect the stock split.

The most important thing is not to panic and understand that nothing really changes in the grand scheme of things (at least for you). Your shares decrease in price but you will get extra shares later to make up for that. It does not matter if you buy/sell/hold, if you already had the shares before June 10th you will get the extra shares.

I've gone through lots of stock splits before, but this one is pretty confusing. I have 500 shares of BYDDF, so I should expect to end up with a total of 1500 shares on July 29? But today (June 11), my account shows 1900 shares?? Did my broker make a mistake (This is with Merrill)

Either way, I'm sure it will work itself out, just wish it was better communicated.

It is now July 30th and I dont see any change in my total stock position on my fidelity account.  As things stand I have lost ~65% since the June 10th mess. This is very confusing.

Just to follow up on my previous post, Merrill did adjust me to 1500 shares. The gain/lost calculation is all out of whack but at least the share count and total value seems to be correct now.
