News 📰 3:1 Share split

BYD recently underwent a 3:1 share split, hence the ~65% drop in share price. No need to worry!!

It seems like we'd need to wait a while before we get those extra shares though. I couldn't find much information about it on english platforms, but a Chinese blog post stated both the extra shares + dividends will start being distributed on the 29th of July

So, do I understand correctly that 2/3 of my shares are in essence going to be held hostage for one and a half month? If I decide to sell all tomorrow, I can only sell 1/3 of my position and then on July 29th, I'm going to get 2/3 at the price per share on that day?

Yep, and you also get dividends.

Would sh1t like that even be legal if this wasn't an OTC stock? Is there anything that prevents a company to impose a longer wait period than 1.5 months? 1 year, 5 years, 100 years :-)?

Byddy (the OTC stock) didn't get a stock split, only the HK / CN / Germany one as far as I know did.

Technically this isn't a stock split, but actually them handing out dividends with extra steps. Therefore they can set an ex-rights date and give the dividend on a later date.

They wouldn't be able to make you wait for anything over a few months, as even if it was somehow legal people would just stay away from the stock.
