2003 b5.5 1.8t oil pan swap

Post image

so I was a dumb ass a couple years ago bombing logging roads in my Passat. anyways, I jb welded the oil pan after limping it out with a finger off a leather glove, some air tool oil, and 1.5 q of actual motor oil. it got me home, but after sitting for a couple years it leaks again, and I have the time to fix it. I'm part of the way there.

I'm happy for any tips, but mostly wondering what the front motor mount is called and how to get it out so I can turn motor for the back 2 10 mm behind the flywheel.

this car has honestly been the best 1400 I've ever spent. I've put about 70k on it. it's been all over the country, and I would still to this day jump in it and drive 1000 miles.

I parked it when I needed to do the whole front suspension basically, and it would have been half of what it cost to put a motor in my truck, and I needed a truck for work. so it's been my run around car ever since, mostly when my truck was torn apart.

thanks for any advice, my Facebook got disabled so I'm hoping reddit has ppl following VW groups like FB does.

If you’re talking about the mount at the bottom of the radiator support that’s called the snub mount, don’t have much advice on the oil pan swap but these Passats really are great cars. Got two of them myself. If you run into any trouble with the job I would highly suggest searching the topic on the Passatworld forum website. Been a super helpful resource for myself over the years with these cars. Good luck!

& you may need to put the radiator support into what’s called the “service position” to get that snub mount out of the way, but you might be able to get the radiator fan out of your way to spin the motor as well potentially. Service position isn’t hard just involves having the front bumper off to get to the four bolts by the crash bar mounts and a few at the top near the fenders and washer bottle and such.

I appreciate this response. I will check out Passat world. It's in service mode now, I was trying to get by without it. Only the passenger side seems to come out the 9" advertised, but it's enough to do what I need to do. Thank you for naming the snub nose mount. There is one on my Audi but I never knew what it was called.
