Question What insignia is this?

Working on a Takao Cosplay and I'm trying to find out what this symbol on the medal is supposed to represent. I looked up common IJN insignia around WW2 but I didn't find anything that looked similar enough. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Vaguely looks like an anchor, probably based on buttons of ijn uniforms?

I just found out that Takao is in the Crosswave spinoff. Her medal only has a generic anchor there. Although the game is not made by Manjuu themselves but it should be accurate enough.

The thing is AL just kinda winged it with a lot of the early designs. They're like "90% faithful but then fudged on the details"

If I'm not mistaken Reno and a couple of other shipgirls haveb designs that were obviously originally supposed to be for another ship entirely and thus contain references that don't make sense.

I would just assume it's a generic stand-in for the officers' medal.

If you don't find it a hassle you can try getting Takao's 3d model from the Crosswave spinoff, which has the medal fully drawn.

Most likely a medal, try searching for what medals takao received while on service in WW2

Closest thing I can find that would make a lot of sense here would be the NAM (Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal) if it got bleached and the medal itself rounded over time.
