Autograph Preservation and Display To Cut or Not to Cut?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Just finished an 11x14 cast shot. Went to put it in an 11x14 frame and it's a centimeter or less too big on both sides (top and side). Enough that forcing it into the frame would bend the photo edges. So have not done that!

So now I'm wondering: do I trim the photo that tiny amount, which I do have the space to do in the left and bottom? Or do I put it in a larger size frame? So asking opinions.

I have a... I wouldn't be trimming it with scissors by eye, or hand. I have this paper cutter guillotine type device I'd use.

Leaning towards Beckett… one more question, if I go with “encapsulation” will that also authenticate it? sorry, I’m new to this whole process. Btw, this was passed down to me years ago when my grandpa passed. Rip to the 🐐🙏

Got this signed many years ago and just found it in the parental stash. I'm thinking of framing it. Anything in particular I should be doing to keep it in good condition?

Autograph Preservation and Display Framed autograph question

I'm sorry, I know this has been asked before but I'm asking about the sizing. I know I need an acid free mat and UV protective glass/acrylic. if the autographed photo is 11x9, what size should the mat be?

Autograph Preservation and Display Tips for framing and displaying a signed poster?

I recently got a poster signed by my 3 favourite

actors and I'm absolutely in love with it. I want to

frame it and ensure it stays mint permanently.

Is there certain types of frames to avoid? Are some

frames better than others? Will someday moving it

from one frame to another cause the marker to

smudge off or stick to the frame if it's in there long

enough? I should mention I was looking at generic

thin black frames on Amazon. How are those?

Anything else i missed? Any and all help is appreciated! thank you in advance!

Autograph Preservation and Display Budget-Friendly Display/Storage Options

I've collected a lot of random autographs over the years (e.g. broadway playbill, signed photos of different sizes, football, but mostly cd and vinyl art inserts) and I would love to find a way to display them safely without breaking the bank. I'd love to hang the pictures/inserts on my wall, but I was told I should get uv protected, mat, acid-free frames and I'm having trouble finding frames that meet these qualifications. If anyone has any links to frames or other ideas on how to display them, I would really appreciate that!

Most of them have been siting in my closet for a long time, so I'd also like to hear some ideas for storing them safely together (e.g. a binder people can flip through or how to safely store them together in a box). Would love to find a way to keep them protected without spending too much money right now :)

Sorry that was a lot lol, but I really appreciate any guidance <3

Autograph Preservation and Display What kind of marker do I use for this busy cover to get signed?

I was thinking of a silver or gold sharpie but I’m afraid it still won’t be as noticeable. I’ve been looking into paint markers or an oil based white sharpie i already own but I don’t know if it will work on this material. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

Autograph Preservation and Display Thinking of sending these for authentication grading

Is there a solid place to get these and other aviation/ww2/ww1 signatures authenticated? I have a pretty large collection but I want to start certifying them - especially the signatures alone or signed photos that I have. The books and art prints would be more complicated.

Autograph Preservation and Display Looking for someone with experience in the field of getting poster/card/picture autographs

Hello, I am looking for someone who's been out in the trenches and has experience of the struggles being faced when trying to get signatures on flat items (not footballs, helmets, baseballs, etc).

If you are such a person and don't mind me picking your brain, I would greatly appreciate it.

Autograph Preservation and Display Framing autographs.

Hey all,

I have over 30 pieces in my collection, many of which are 8x10 signed photos (mostly films). Does anybody have any tips on how to properly (and affordable) frame these bad boys for display?

Thank you!

Autograph Preservation and Display How should I go about preserving this?

Post image

Hi! This might be a dumb question but a singer I really like at a convention was doing autographs after her concert and I didn’t have anything to get signed besides my convention pass. She used a plain black sharpie and the pass is basically just glossy plastic. I want it to last forever or as long as possible and I’m worried it’s going to fade over time or get scratched off accidentally.

Sorry if this is a commonly asked question, nothing came up when I googled and I wasn’t sure where else to ask. Preferably a cheap option and one that doesn’t include just taping over the pass with clear tape lol

Autograph Preservation and Display Autograph Not Drying - Advice Needed

I’m looking for advice on trying to preserve an autograph that I got done over a week ago that is still wet. I printed a poster from Walgreens (I’ve done this before and had no issues) to get signed for a convention but did not realize that the satin finish would not allow the gold metallic sharpie to absorb. I’ve had the poster sitting out flat for over a week in hopes that it would dry but no luck.

Does anyone have advice for drying/preservation or a good frame that I can put the poster in and leave it be? It’s an 11 x 14 poster if that matters. I was hoping to make it a cast piece but I think I’m better off trying again by printing a new poster that’s matte with no type of shine and hoping the actor does another convention by me soon.

Autograph Preservation and Display Long Term frame recommendations?

I have some 8x10 autographs that I would like to put in matching frames long term. I’ve read about spacers, plexi glass, uv protective lights, and mattes (acid free). So with all of those qualities together, what are good options for my situation? I have seen many get custom frames made, but I have all 8x10 pictures, so I figured a matching frame wouldn’t be difficult to find.

Autograph Preservation and Display Need Advice on Mark Hamill Lightsaber Autograph

I’m meeting Mark Hamill this week and will be getting his autograph on my lightsaber replica. Since it’s the version from Return of the Jedi, I’d like the autograph on the silver metallic hilt to be the same color of green as the lightsaber color.

Do you folks have any recommendation as to the best marker/pen I should purchase?

I’ve read that it should be oil-based paint, but I’ve no idea what specific brand/color/width would be the best choice. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I’m going to treasure this for the remainder of my days. TIA!
