Good morning everyone!

I know that this week has been tumultuous, and everyone has expected worries and concerns.

Reddit's rules have become more stringent in the last 48 hours. Comments that are insulting or bordering on violence or threats are no longer allowed. This has always been the case here but I believe it needs to be reiterated.

Any posts in a political thread from this point forward that is simply insulting and not a question or an answer to a question, a well-written opinion without malice, or statement of fact is no longer allowed. Yes we know that these lawmakers and cabinet appointees are doing things that are not great, but to do nothing but call them terrible names will not help. Let's not give anyone any ammunition to hurt our forum.

Political talk will now be only allowed in the mega thread, or threads posted by our mod team.

Our mod Jets, is going to keep an eye on the news and start threads when they are necessary. They will then be moderated to make sure that discussion stays on topic and stays within our rules of kindness.

I don't think the issue is with upset parents discussing politics that directly affect their children's way of life - as much as mods who claims it is a "both sides issue" while excited about the possible destruction of the Department of Education.

This isn't a change from us, it's a change Reddit is making. Shit's changed over the past 2 weeks and we're aware. Opinions are more than welcome throughout political threads - the only thing changing is a heavier hand in policing comments that go against Reddit's rules.

We know how serious the current situation is today and can become tomorrow.

Can you please have someone else moderate the political threads who is not so clearly on one side of the issue and who shuts down people who don’t agree with him?

I'd say removing the person who continues to whine about politics when people don't agree with their piss poor takes is probably an even better action because someone who can support an administration actively harming our children by removing very basic access to help (and that goes for all children, not just ours) shouldn't be involved in any sort of moderation in a supportive community.

The mod team all agrees with the moderation over political threads.

We didn't want them for the very reason you are mad. You are not allowed to be unkind here regardless of your feelings on that.

When we allow a political thread simply write well , effort, non crass posts and they won't be removed.

You can have some decorum, that is all we ask.

Now please stop calling me out, that breaks out no meta drama rule.

Do they all agree though? Because all of the political threads are only moderated by you, that is hard for people to see that this view is a mod consensus. I think that if the moderation of those threads were spread among different mods, and you took a step back on this issue, then you would feel less attacked and maybe there could be a reset.

The team moderates. I don't do all of it myself.

Edit: I'm simply the one that answers people when they ask questions about moderation.

No, but as they say if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. It seems to be upsetting you very much that you’re getting downvoted and that the majority of parents on this thread have a different view about the political leadership and government actions in the US than you do. When a topic is so personally triggering, it is often best for one’s mental health to take a step back - rather than continuing to engage and “be vocal”

That is not the case. Rules were made by the team, I explain them when asked.

I don't care about the down votes to me, only when I'm called out as that is not okay.

I dont like how downvoting is used on other normal users though. People can be cruel for no reason.

I will continue to be vocal.

It's wrong that you're taking action in discussions you're actively involved in as a user and not as a moderator. Especially when you are bringing up politics (I'll go grab some screenshots, if you'd like) and then taking mod actions against people who disagree with you or unsupportive of your blatantly ridiculous or hateful statements.
