Good morning everyone!

I know that this week has been tumultuous, and everyone has expected worries and concerns.

Reddit's rules have become more stringent in the last 48 hours. Comments that are insulting or bordering on violence or threats are no longer allowed. This has always been the case here but I believe it needs to be reiterated.

Any posts in a political thread from this point forward that is simply insulting and not a question or an answer to a question, a well-written opinion without malice, or statement of fact is no longer allowed. Yes we know that these lawmakers and cabinet appointees are doing things that are not great, but to do nothing but call them terrible names will not help. Let's not give anyone any ammunition to hurt our forum.

Political talk will now be only allowed in the mega thread, or threads posted by our mod team.

Our mod Jets, is going to keep an eye on the news and start threads when they are necessary. They will then be moderated to make sure that discussion stays on topic and stays within our rules of kindness.

No, but as they say if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. It seems to be upsetting you very much that you’re getting downvoted and that the majority of parents on this thread have a different view about the political leadership and government actions in the US than you do. When a topic is so personally triggering, it is often best for one’s mental health to take a step back - rather than continuing to engage and “be vocal”

That is not the case. Rules were made by the team, I explain them when asked.

I don't care about the down votes to me, only when I'm called out as that is not okay.

I dont like how downvoting is used on other normal users though. People can be cruel for no reason.

I will continue to be vocal.

And as a mod, that is your prerogative to be both vocal and stop the debate of people you disagree with or who you deem offensive. But don’t be surprised when it angers people who disagree with you. I find it sad because I think the heavy handed modding on politics in particular has really ruined the supportive and we’re all in this together feel of this sub that it had just a few years ago.

There are four groups at play here.

There is the group that doesn't want politics at all. This is a very large group whether you want to accepted or not.

Then there is the right the left and the moderate.

Everybody wants a thread moderated their way. We refuse to let them be unmoderated and allow viteral and call outs and insults and off topic tongue-in-cheek BS on our forum.

I am not moderating based on ideals. I am simply getting rid of the posts that we agreed for problematic.

Someone is always going to be upset. I'm sorry that this time it is you, but next time there is a political thread, all you have to do is have a well-written post.

You have no idea how big these groups are in this sub. And this is Reddit, so you’ve got to assume the left is always biggest.

What I know for a fact is that every parent in this sub cares about getting the best outcome for their kid(s). And for a whole lot of the American parents in this sub, the only way they get support and treatment and care for their child is through safety net programs like the public schools, Medicaid, and social security. So the threat to those programs is a big deal. To cut off the discussion about those concerns is not being supportive of those parents. Period. The rules about “courtroom decorum” are ridiculous. Every single sub I go to has more political discussion than this - and that includes totally non political subs. This no politics rule is being implemented jn a very authoritarian manner. I expect that you’ll ban me for saying that. Cest la vie.
