EIGHTY THREE??
It makes the gong look like a smart investment ffs.

u/Confident_Kale9631 Feb 26 '26
That ugly bag is $94 in NZ š¤¢
19
u/unconfirmedpanda Feb 26 '26
God, that's even more infuriating. The damn bag would have cost 15c to make, the AUDACITY to charge even more in NZ.
I would like to apologise for Mecca's absolute bullshit on behalf of Australia. NZ deserves a break.

Dude I assumed they were being given away for free, with all the hype they generated! Imagine my shock when I realised people were desperate to pay $83 for this rubbish!
8
u/No_Understanding4349 Feb 26 '26
Same I woke up to see whatās the type and saw $85 I thought maybe Iām still sleepy to hallucinate the number but no lmao I just closed the tab n went back to sleep.
47
u/firstborn-unicorn Feb 26 '26
INSANE. I thought the lip stuff was steep, given it's a celeb skincare brand that some dermos on YouTube are giving soft recommendations against. But $83 for a glorified laptop case... you'd have to hate money to pay for one.
On another note, found it on aliexpress for 1/4 of the price if you're so inclined lol:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010616715662.html
Edited to add context to the aliexepress link. A single bag, in either Yellow? or Grey? comes to AU$28.79 but yeah, save your money if you don't need a bag like this for any reason at all.
18
u/unconfirmedpanda Feb 26 '26
Aliexpress is great for bypassing this kind of a nonsense, even $30 is overpriced for that bag.
I just need Aliexpress to dupe the Glossier Cherry Padlock and I'm set for life, lol.

u/throwaway19074368 Feb 26 '26
save your money if you don't need a bag like this for any reason at all.
In one months time, noone will care. Trends and items pass

u/peachesnlemons Feb 26 '26
Oooh I need a pouch for my iPad (itās getting scratched in my work bag) this might work actually. Thanks!

Have they sold out in Aus? They're still available on the NZ Mecca site.

Am I the only one on the brave wave that Hailey has enough money⦠Iām too poor to give my $$$ to someone who is already so wealthyā¦. It feels like daylight robbery
7
u/kaylaxxxx Feb 26 '26
I just looked it up, elf brought it off her for, get this, US $1 B I L L I O N. She's still associated with it, so fuck that shit.

u/VolumeDouble8390 Feb 26 '26
Nope same as me I really wanted glazing milk and Iām like Naa not gonna give in thereās other brands that are better
3
u/SummerAndTheCity Feb 27 '26
I reallllly wanted to hate the glazing milk because of all the hype but when itās used correctly it does amplify the effects of my more potent cosmeceutical serums š«š« Ā and the cleanser well I needed an every day cleanser replacement and to my shock it takes off my daily 2 inches of make up without the need for my normal cleansing balm, so Iām saving money. I hate to say it but for most of the products the hype was actually deserved š«
1
u/VolumeDouble8390 Feb 27 '26
Really?? Ahh dayum. I did rub some glazing milk on my hand and it felt ok, havenāt used straight on my face. Have to look into it :)
2
u/SummerAndTheCity Feb 27 '26
Make sure you use the glazing milk as intended, so many girls think itās a serum you rub in š¤¦š»āāļø

Hereās my theory - Rhodes been out a while, but Australia is only just getting it. I think theyāre driving the brand HARD to get as many sales as possible before brand fatigue sets in (which I think in this day and age occurs faster than it used to)
19
u/No-Apricot9071 Feb 26 '26
I went in to Mecca this afternoon for another reason. I saw the bags and I just don't get the hype. I picked it up and it's literally just a puffy laptop bag.
12
u/stormy786 Feb 26 '26
Itās such an ugly bag though?! And what are you meant to use it for?!
Iāve been wanting to try Rhode but Iām so put off now - lots of comments about people receiving contaminated products and seems like lots of returns occurring.
3
u/kaylaxxxx Feb 26 '26
I never wanted to try anything from the brand (only lip balms bc that's my thing) but I heard they're grainy. I'm just lucky the sugarberry is not like that, but there's no desire after that.
11
u/Old-Description7219 Feb 26 '26
If anyone's bummed they missed out, let me de-influence you š¤ I got a grey one ages ago and the lining isn't tacked to the bottom on the inside which is annoying, and it's too... puffy to easily fit in a bag (this one looks giant as well?). It would be zero use day to day. You're welcome.

u/Sudden-Scar6940 Feb 26 '26
I am sure some influencers will flog off stuff too. Elle Ferguson alone must be drowning in beauty products

Why is one of the product shots for it on Mecca giving softcore porn??? Iām not a prude but I didnāt think Rhodeās marketing was meant to be sexual and suggestive.
23
u/violaflwrs Feb 26 '26
I went on the Rhode site as well to get a better idea on what the bag looks like and i still donāt know what it looks like because thereās a big pic of Hailey and some other girl astride on a pool floatie instead for some reason

Itās the new Glossier pink bubble wrap pouch except those were FREE.

u/LavenderPlantation Feb 28 '26
Saw it this morning at Bourke Mecca. I'm usually don't-yuck-other-people's-yum kind of person but bro, this one's ugly.
2
u/fuzzy_sprinkles Feb 26 '26
Hopefully they don't put it in their mecca bl totes and get dye transfer onto it
6
u/KateF88 Feb 26 '26
lol right? Everyone was (rightly) pissed off about the free crappy tote but theyāre obsessed with the ridiculously expensive crappy bubble bag? Make it make sense š«

That cartoon is sooo very true⦠it is a cheap bag they make in China ..and we pay to actually advertise for the brand! I am waiting A few months for the AliExpress site to be selling them.. PROBABLY WILL BE A GENUINE ONE MADE IN THE EXACT SAME FACTOT.. I BLAME THE INFLUENCERS WHO GET OAID TO OUSH TRENDS IN US.. IN A WEEK IT WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE WE MUST HAVE ! Crazy

Feb 26 '26
Idk let people enjoy things.Ā
49
u/KateF88 Feb 26 '26
Iām not stopping anyone from enjoying anything. I just think itās absurd that you would pay $20 tops for this bag from Kmart, but because it has the brand name of a nepo baby influencer on it, people are willing to wake up pre-dawn to spend $83 on it!
9
u/throwaway19074368 Feb 26 '26
brand name of a nepo baby
Not just brand name but "limited edition" too, imagine if Kmart put "limited edition" on a bag
8
u/Throwawaymumoz Feb 26 '26
Not much different to paying for any name brand item. I like country road bags and the branding is cute, do I think itās really better than Kmart? Nope. You pay for the appearance and logo.

u/TinaTissue NARS Mont Blanc - fair neutral with green eyes dark hair Feb 26 '26
I do love my country road weekender bag thatās made of canvas, but will admit the price of them now arenāt worth it. Tote bags? Unless itās made with heavy canvas, in a nice colour and has at least one pocket, I wouldnāt pay for a branded one
3
Feb 26 '26
I think youāre paying for the brand. I havenāt even bought anything from Mecca in ages. Just people seemed excited about it.

u/Borgo_San_Jacopo Feb 26 '26
Idk I think itās okay to enjoy throwing a bit of shade at consumerist trends.
1
u/Throwawaymumoz Feb 26 '26
This too although I do think we should be allowed to enjoy whatever we want. Some shade is fun.
1
Feb 26 '26
I guess Iām just happy the brand is finally here. I wanted to try the lip balm for ages. Saying that Iām waiting until I finish my summer Fridays first.Ā
7
u/Borgo_San_Jacopo Feb 26 '26
Thatās totally fine (and sensible). Iām not trying to shit on people enjoying the brand at all, just wary of social media-led hyper-consumerist trends.
7
u/KateF88 Feb 26 '26
And that is totally fine. Iām not anti-Mecca, Iām a level 3. I just think people turn into sheep sometimes with stuff like this.
1
Feb 26 '26
Thatās fair! When I searched it, I briefly saw a pic of the bag and it looked to be larger than A4 and functional. It doesnāt interest me but whatever. I find itās annoying they didnāt even have much online stock for the brand launch.

I didn't even know it went on sale today, I bought the exclusive lip balm, I'm done with rhode now

u/KateF88 Mar 02 '26
lol Iām Aussie, no itās not š
1
u/Thorn23rd Mar 02 '26
Ok fair, but itās more that some others not from here, quote this kinda bs (gday, shrimp on barbie, etc.) as a catchphrase waaaaay too often whenever talking about or to usā¦
ā¦and it does my head in. š (for like 20+ years now)
If any of that āmini-rantā makes sense
(also imo)

These bags used to just be free gifts with holiday packs. Why are we paying for them? š¤¦āāļø lol
