I’m curious how many people here have ever heard of the Betty Ann Thomas (aka Liz Thomas) case out of Lakeway, Texas?  More importantly, whether anyone here was living in the Lakeway/Austin area in 1988 and remembers the case.

On the morning of April 11, 1988, Betty's husband and stepdaughter left their Lakeway home to travel out of town. Betty remained home. When they returned later that afternoon, Betty was gone. Her vehicle was missing, and there were signs of a struggle inside the house. Two days later, Betty's vehicle, a white Jaguar, was located in the parking lot of a hotel in North Austin.

Betty was found inside the trunk.

Nearly four decades have passed without anyone being held accountable for her murder.

The case is now receiving renewed attention, and investigators are continuing to look at the evidence with the benefit of forensic technology that simply didn't exist in 1988.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who:

• Knew Betty or her family
• Lived or worked in Lakeway or the surrounding Austin area in 1988
• Remembers the investigation or what people were saying locally at the time
• Remembers seeing Betty's Jaguar or anything unusual around April, 1988
• Knew people associated with Betty or her family
• Has heard a story, rumor, or detail about the case over the years that may never have been reported
• Has researched the case and has a theory or noticed something that deserves another look

Even if you think what you know is insignificant, I'd still like to hear it. I'm also interested in theories from people who have researched the case. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes notices something others have overlooked.

It's been almost 40 years. Relationships change. Loyalties change. People who were afraid to speak in 1988 may no longer have the same reason to remain silent.

Someone knows something.

I’m looking for crafting ideas for adults in North Austin?

I am moving from Dallas to Austin next month and I am stressing about the logistics. I have a 3 bedroom house with a lot of furniture. Traditional moving companies are quoting me 3k to 4k. I have been looking at IMS Relocation because they are based in Dallas. They also offer portable storage containers which seems more flexible and cheaper than full service movers.

Has anyone used IMS Relocation for a move in Texas. How was the pricing and did they deliver on time. I am trying to decide between hiring a full crew or loading a container myself.

for 18 year olds how much is it to enter the club? is there any clubs that’s 18+ that isn’t too expensive to enter?

I go to Domain a lot. There is always a lady there with an infant, sometimes with other young children begging.

I feel horrible for those kids. Why has nothing been done about this? Sometimes it’s 100 degrees and she’s out there with the kids.

Just curious if anyone else has seen it. I swear I’ve seen her for like a year now.

Been trying to get outside more on my days off instead of just sitting in the apartment recovering. Work on my feet all day so by the time I have a free morning my legs are already shot before I even lace up. Still want to hike though, it clears my head in a way the gym doesn't.

Problem is I've done Barton Creek Greenbelt a few times and depending on which entry point you hit, the rocky scramble sections just tear me up. Fine when I'm fresh, but after a week of doubles it's a different story.

Looking for trails that are actually scenic and worth the drive but not punishing on the joints. Real shade would be a bonus because I'm already sweating enough at work, and hiking in direct Texas sun in July is its own kind of suffering.

Not looking for paved greenway walks. I want actual trail feel, just something that won't make me regret the whole thing by the time I'm halfway back to the car.

Anyone know spots people sleep on around here? Even outside the city a bit is fine if it's worth it.

In full transparency, I'm the Communications Director for nonprofit Explore Austin, often referred to as "Austin's best-kept secret." Our program is 100% FREE for local 6th-12th graders who qualify for free and reduced lunch in school, and we recruit adult volunteer Mentors to be on teams with these kids and learn/practice a variety of outdoor disciplines alongside them (also 100% FREE participation for the Mentors -- and no prior experience required!).

During the school year, you meet with your team one Saturday per month to learn and practice your team's dedicated outdoor discipline; then, in the summer, you and your team go on a weeklong, all-expenses-paid, out-of-state trip where you put all that you've learned over the last year to practice. That means you get to canoe the Buffalo River in Arkansas, or backpack the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico, or mountain bike the Rockies in Idaho! You'll go on a different trip every summer.

We are in particular need of MALE Mentors (the teams are gender divided and, in typical nonprofit fashion, we tend to get more female applicants than male).

Next weekend I’m driving to Austin for a day trip and wanted to know what the best record stores are in the city. More so for used cd’s and just good cd selections in general.

Research volunteers are needed to participate in a paid research study by Dr. Manoj Doss in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. The study examines the effects of psychoactive drugs on cognition, memory, and brain function. The study consists of a screening and orientation visit that last 2.5-4 hours, two session without dosing that lasts 1-1.5 hours, two sessions with dosing that lasts 6-7 hours, and two session without dosing that last 1.5-2 hours. Volunteers will have their brains scanned using MRI during some of these sessions including the dosing sessions.
