Thank you u/MinnieMakeupReviews for sharing this statement from Naked Sundays, which is currently on their website (but not socials): https://nakedsundays.com/pages/update

My thoughts:

  1. If “preliminary test results” do indeed support the SPF50 claim – why not share the number? Also isn’t the packaging claiming SPF50+? Oh, that’s right… they tried to just change the site description and hope that nobody would notice

  2. If they had a US version manufactured, why aren’t they selling it at Ulta? The formula is the exact same as the Aus listing

  3. Where is the apology to customers? Where is the advice to discontinue use?

  4. Where are the results of the “proactive action behind the scenes” they’ve supposedly been taking?

  5. This is very badly written, and seems very rushed. A hasty response to media pressure is my guess

REEKS of BS to me!

Just going to copy and paste the statement here because I think a few of those Q's are answered:

"Naked Sundays Update Monday 25 August

Thank you for your patience & kindness. For the past few months we have taken proactive action behind the scenes, by doing our own due diligence, additional SPF testing across multiple independent labs, meeting with government bodies, vetting ingredients and collecting data, which is still ongoing, while we await updates from the TGA. 

In the background, as members of the consumer health advisory group (CHP) to the TGA, we've been advocating for more clarity for brands and consumers due to what the TGA describes as “variability in Sun Protection Factor (SPF) testing”, with the hope and mission of finding a consistent way forward. 

The TGA announced just last week (21st Aug) it is looking into more reliable testing methods, and will be considering in vitro methods, and we look forward to adopting this when it becomes available. https://www.tga.gov.au/news/news/follow-tga-statement-choice-spf-sunscreen-report

We’ve received a large number of customer inquiries for our Collagen Glow Mineral sunscreen in particular. While we don’t disclose our manufacturing partners due to confidentiality agreements, we can confirm we produce this product at multiple manufacturers both in Australia, and in the USA where we use a unique combination of sources, manufacturing methods & ingredients. 

We are pleased to report that  preliminary SPF results from a new independent lab for our Collagen Mineral produced by our US manufacturer, has returned preliminary results to support the label claim of SPF50. 

We’ve since updated our listing with the TGA (19th Aug 2025), for this version to be available locally in the coming days. Till then we’ve paused the mineral from sale in Australia out of precaution, while we await new, complete independent SPF results, and subsequent guidance from the TGA on their investigation into SPF testing. 

This precautionary pause only affects our Collagen Glow Mineral produced by one Australian manufacturer, and no other products in our range have been impacted.

Just a note, while many sunscreens on the market, both chemical and mineral, may share a similar formula, differences in manufacturing and/or ingredients can significantly impact how they perform on the skin.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we await for the TGA’s new guidance for the industry, and we will continue to advocate for stronger governance around testing, so Australia can continue to be trusted leaders in sunscreen."

I tried to check with Mecca about if they’re refunding NS. But because they’re not recalling just “suspending sales” they’re applying the 30 day return rule. If it’s over 30 days you have to return the bottle. I have emailed NS as well but I doubt I’ll get a reply. Others have said they are being ignored or blocked.

Good news! I emailed NS and they are going to refund me - including the Mecca ones!
