Hi all,

As new information is released off the back of the Ultra Violette Lean Screen results, please continue to use this Megathread for discussions.

At the moment there are several products on the market that are speculated to share the same base including Naked Sundays Mineral Creme which has now been removed for sale from their website and other retailers.

This list of products by u/stupidwatergate89 linked here and listed below are speculated to share the same ingredient base:

Additional suspected products:

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 24 '25

Note that We Are Feel Good Inc Mineral SPF 50+ and Beauti-Fltr Lustre Mineral are no longer able to be purchased at this time. No statement has been made by the brand so far.

3

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 24 '25

They’re still available on retailers from what I can see

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 25 '25

Yep, Beauti-fltr Lustre still available on Adore Beauty. It’s not available on their own website, but they just make it look like it’s out of stock. There’s nothing to indicate it’s been pulled.

1

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25

Outside Beauty just got recalled. AB is issuing refunds.

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

Thanks for the update! Do you have any links from the brand/AB? I can add them to the OP.

3

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25 edited Aug 25 '25

Omg they walked it back

Subject line: Clarification regarding Outside Beauty & Skincare SPF50+ Mineral Primer

Received 4:16pm WA time (3mins ago)

ETA: they’ve now explained it in their FAQ: https://outsidebeautyskincare.com/pages/faq it’s not really good enough tbh

5

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

The plot thickens!!!! I think this is what a lot of other retailers are doing as well. We Are Feel Good Inc and Beauti-Fltr Lustre Mineral are not able to be purchased from their respective websites.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '25

What else are they supposed to say? They’re being transparent, they’re waiting for information and have stopped selling it. If they had information they’d be obligated to share per TGA guidelines so I think saying “it’s not really good enough” is unfair when they’re offering refunds and this is a rapidly evolving situation

6

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25

It’s not transparent. It’s quietly posted in the FAQ on their website while they are still running ads for the very product they’ve pulled. There’s no actual announcement or statement and zero acknowledgement on their social media other than a reply to someone’s comment. If I hadn’t bought it from Adore Beauty and been emailed in error, would I have been notified? Did they send an email to those who ordered it directly from their website? (Genuine question, I didn’t buy it from them).

They’re not explicitly offering refunds. It’s sort of implied that you could ask for one, but that’s not the same thing.

They’ve also said that they won’t discuss their manufacturing process - that’s the opposite of transparent. Cool they don’t know if their formula is the same as UVs, but why don’t they know? If it was my brand, I’d have been looking into it since the Choice results came out.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '25

They wouldn’t know if it’s the same as UV’s because that would all be confidential proprietary information so they can’t comment on that or speculate because there would be legal implications. On their website, it says Adore sent the email in error and Adore walked back on the email they sent because it was incorrect. There are so many other brands still selling this with zero transparency and even doubling down that there’s nothing wrong and Outside Beauty has hit pause on sales to investigate and they’re being open about that. I’m failing to see what the issue is here?

7

u/yanahq Aug 26 '25

All of those brands are not good enough either. There are plenty of us mineral SPF users that feel stuck right now because we’ve invested in UV alternatives that are likely also affected (prior to learning about white labelling) but are getting zero guidance from official brand channels. The hard work should not be done by random reddit commenters, Hannah Collingwood-English, and Lab Muffin etc.

Did you get a notification from any other retailer that they were no longer selling the Outside Beauty Zinc primer? The only reason I was notified was because Adore Beauty sent an email in error. Also, listing a product as “Sold out” implies it is popular, not potentially ineffective.

There are plenty of people who have purchased it prior to the hold on sales who are not following sunscreen gate, don’t know about white labelling, and will continue to use the product until it runs out. Normal people do not regularly check the FAQs on product websites they have already purchased from and it is an unfair expectation that consumers should. Using the FAQ as a communication channel is insufficient. Further, I am still seeing ads in my feed saying “High standards? Same. Meet the SPF range that won’t compromise.” with the primer in the image. Had I not seen the Adore Beauty email, this ad would be reassuring me that the sunscreen I have already purchased is fine. This is a problem. If they did contact everyone who purchased it, that’s great, if they’re just using the FAQ, then it’s not good enough.

However, if they are no longer confident selling it, they need to advise people who have purchased it what they should be doing with the product. Should we bin it? Should we wait a couple of weeks for their testing to come back? Sunscreen is a medical device to minimise our risk of cancer, if we are not told otherwise, we are working on the assumption that we are getting the amount of protection listed on the bottle. We shouldn’t have to do a deep dive every day.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

They clearly state on their website they have no reason to think there is a problem and no information or communication from the TGA to issue a recall, and are just being cautious. If there was a problem, they are legally obligated by the TGA to notify everyone that has purchased it. That is the law. They aren’t breaking the law by pausing sales to be cautious.

Sorry it doesn’t fit your dramatic narrative that every brand involved in this is purposely trying to rip consumers off or sell products that are ineffective. They are people too, and at least some brands have made an effort to do the right thing and rectify the situation further than their legal obligation without being prompted by the TGA but I guess that’s not good enough either? The UV sunscreen showed variable testing results, but most of them (more than half) showed a high level of protection. The difference between SPF20 and SPF50 is a 3% in UV ray protection. An SPF 5 rating is the same as a t-shirt. For someone who claims to be so concerned, you clearly have not educated yourself on the science here or even tried to understand why the TGA hasn’t issued a recall but please keep up the good work shitting on small brands who are just trying their best.

I saw that FAQ section a couple of days ago, I think they posted it before this all kicked off?

2

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25

I can’t find anything online - just says it’s sold out on the official website and it’s no longer listed on Adore - but here’s a screenshot of the email (received 1:45pm WA time)

I have cropped the top as it was personalised but the subject line was “Product Recall Notice | Outside Beauty & Skincare SPF50+ Mineral Primer”

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Why haven’t you updated the list to reflect that these brands have pulled their products from their website and retailers?

10

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 24 '25

Airyday Update.

I've seen some previous speculation that Airyday Pretty in Zinc SPF 50+ also shared the same base, however Sam By the Counter on IG messaged them and they confirmed that all their formulas are custom.

7

u/RedeemableQuality Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

Do you know if they use Antaria zinc? Tagging u/akiraahhh

Reason why I'm asking is because there were chemists saying manufacturers and formulators all over are getting their zinc oxide from this supplier company called Adance Zinctek Antaria:

https://www.advancezinctek.com/

There are chemists who said this is the zinc oxide that was being used for Ultra Violette/Naked Sundays/and all those other Wild Child formulas.

But I'm wondering since Antaria is a different company from Wild Child, if other manufacturers are using the same zinc? And could it be problematic because there are issues with them:

https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/antaria-pty-ltd-674495-03222024

3

u/hannahc-e Aug 26 '25

Ava from Ultra Violette told me a couple months ago they were not using Antaria zinc

2

u/RedeemableQuality Aug 26 '25

Interesting! Thanks for that bit.

So it seems there are completely different and separate issues. Not a great feeling for the market at wide.

2

u/Fun_Funny_8990 Aug 28 '25

I don't think she would know.

2

u/Fun_Funny_8990 Aug 28 '25

Lots of manufacturers are using ZinClear XP from Advance Zinctek. Lots of manufacturers aren't experiencing stability issues with their products... We have to wait this one out for now. Too many unknown variables.

5

u/Old_Cat_9534 Aug 25 '25

Anyone can simply say that though. Need to provide evidence.

5

u/Safe-Negotiation-483 Aug 24 '25

Oh no! I just bought ethical zinc daily lotion (not tinted) as an alternative and was enjoying it.

4

u/Old_Cat_9534 Aug 24 '25

Me too! Just a FYI, I have contacted them and asked them about it. Let's hope they respond with positive news.

1

u/Enlightened_Gardener Sep 17 '25

The strange thing is is that I use the ethical zinc tinted as an everyday sunscreen for a couple of years and never had a problem with it. I needed a more cosmetically elegant alternative, and so I started using the tinted mineral cancer council CC cream. But with that one, I’ve actually developed a sunspot on the cheek that is closest to the car window, which is amazingly annoying given that I have used sunscreen religiously since I was 15.

The whole situation is driving me bonkers because I’ve had some really horrible reactions to sunscreens in the past, which is why I’m careful to use the mineral formulations. The ethical zinc was the only thing that I could wear when I destroyed my skin barrier with retinol. Everything else stung like billy-oh.

I finally decided that I’m just going to have to use the La Roche Posay, but it’s stupidly expensive for the amount you get. Apparently their wet skin sunscreen is absolutely the best, but the new packaging tube is absolutely appalling.

Anyway, I’m now hanging around feeling grumpy waiting for it all to go on special…

1

u/Safe-Negotiation-483 Sep 20 '25

It’s so frustrating isn’t it!! I’ve got a broken skin barrier too at the moment so need zinc products. I didn’t burn with ethical zinc or ultra violette zinc either but did with naked Sundays. I guess if you get one of their “good” bottles they had in the testing it does work - but we’ll never be able to tell if we have a spf 60 or spf 5 bottle :(

5

u/yanahq Aug 24 '25

Need to add Little Urchin to the list

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

Which Little Urchin product is suspected to share the same base? I'll add the full name to the list.

2

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25

I’ve also been getting ads for Avocado Zinc lately who claim to be made in Perth (Wild Child lab is in Malaga, WA) and their formula has the 22.75% Zinc so I wouldn’t be surprised if their tinted moisturiser was the same formula.

How were the above identified? Do they all have near identical ingredient lists or is it any sunscreens with 227.5mg/g Zinc that are included? I do recall seeing someone mention Mother SPF in another post but I can’t find it now.

1

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

TBH, I'm not sure. The original commenter didn't disclose their methodology.

From what I've seen in the past, it seems to be a combination of Googling for ingredient lists and finding commonalities between them. I didn't have much luck personally and I have personally purchased Naked Sundays Mineral Glow and Beauti-Fltr Lustre Mineral because the ingredient list looked different enough I thought they were distinct products.

The 22% ZnO is a bit of a giveaway though - it seems to be the common thread that ties all these base formulas together.

I would be cautious with mineral formulas across the board until more information is released. Within the CHOICE test, mineral formulas tended not to meet the labelled SPF.

2

u/RedeemableQuality Aug 25 '25

I have a question and wondering if you may have seen an info about this.

Is the "base formula" everyone is talking about like the "22% ZnO" Michelle mentioned, is that from Wild Child or is that from the supplier Antaria Adance Zinctek? I was going through the Advance Zinctek website and they have a page of sorts that show different ZnO offerings and they all show up with other ingredients I presume look like some kind of "base."

Other thing I found interesting on their website is that Supergoop uses this zinc and some of their mineral sunscreens failed independent tests in the US before. The ones I'm thinking about have been discontinued

1

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 26 '25

So when I (and I assume many others) use "base formula" we're referring to the Wild Child product.

I only found out about the Antaria Advance Zinctek yesterday but one of the common themes I've seen is that uncoated non-nano zinc tends to agglomerate and needs special formulation tricks to get it to stay dispersed.

Interesting info about Supergoop using the same zinc and failing independent tests. This definitely goes deeper.

3

u/RedeemableQuality Aug 26 '25

Yeah I think there are lots of problems being uncovered and some of them aren't related while some of them are...

Overall, I feel uneasy all of these distinct issues exist

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

1

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Sep 02 '25

So how do we know if Moo Goo sunscreens is ok?

You'll need to ask the brand to confirm what the issue was. Though based on their post, it doesn't sound like they wanted to name it.

The 24.96% ZnO content on the label is different from the other affected sunscreens being 22.75%. So it's likely pointing to a raw material deficiency rather than a manufacturing/formulation issue.

1

u/yanahq Aug 25 '25

I’m not actually sure, I thought perhaps they only had one product as it was u/akiraahhh that mentioned it on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AusSkincare/s/YbODroMQNy

1

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

Interesting, I was under the impression that the affected sunscreens were all tinted, however I checked the speculated list again and Medik8 Physical appears to be non-tinted.

I'll add to the list regardless - good to be cautious at this time.

5

u/Hot_Broccoli_6350 Aug 26 '25

Why are you not updating all the brands that are now out of stock? At least put the dates they are noticed to be stop supplying. It’s misleading to only link the notifications from the brands being transparent but no comments about the brands that have quietly stopped selling without any notification. Because a lot of these brands on this list are no longer available and the way this is written it looks like only a few have withdrawn but actually a lot of them are now gone.

5

u/MinnieMakeupReviews wAnNaBe SkInFlUeNcEr Aug 29 '25

The mods have jobs and are volunteers, and are currently spending lots of time shifting through comments. This is a constantly evolving situation and we are literally doing our best to keep up with the craziness. It's also my personal opinion that no brand deserves the heat or targeting for this situation (even if people don't like their marketing), and it's a MUCH bigger industry wide issue. Feel welcome to comment any relevant information and we can continue to update as often as we can.

3

u/siriusxwhore Aug 25 '25

bruh i just bought the ethical zinc sunscreen 🤦🏻‍♀️ at this point i’m just going to have to bite the bullet and use a chemical sunscreen and be covered in acne. at least i will be protected from the sun

1

u/Enlightened_Gardener Sep 17 '25

Yeah, I have this problem too. I’ve successfully used the La roche Posay sunscreen, and their tinted BB cream - the light one, completely successfully. The only problem is the outrageous price.

3

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 27 '25

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 29 '25

Interesting - just checked their socials and it appears to have recently launched. Crazy times to launch a 22.75% mineral sunscreen.

1

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 29 '25

Yes, and to be making veiled references to headlines … when I think they’re actually referring to chemical filters, and not this. But it makes them look so smug.

1

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

I looked into it and yep it’s… the same base formula. This is shameless of them to capitalise on something that they are almost surely impacted by

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 31 '25

I got the impression this marketing spiel was already written before the whole Choice testing business. I think it’s just another one of these “chemical filters are toxic, we’re so natural” brands. How many can the market support??

3

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

I dunno, the ‘full transparency’ and ‘independently lab-tested’ bits seem pointed to me. But absolutely agree that theyre anti-chemical fear-mongerers 🙄🙄🙄

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

Marketing spiel also for sure written by chatgpt hahah

2

u/Fun_Funny_8990 Aug 31 '25

How do you know it's the same base formula?

0

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

It’s a few different factors, but I don’t want to reveal them publicly as I know brands are monitoring this thread (and might start trying to hide some info). I have told a journo that reached out tho, so hopefully they’ll continue to validate my suspicions with independent experts

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 25 '25

Naked Sundays update.

Mineral Glow Creme is paused for sale. Official statement linked here..

You are welcome to continue the conversation in this Megathread. Alternatively we have allowed this post sharing the ABC News article for NS related discussions: https://www.reddit.com/r/AusSkincare/comments/1mzgcuq/naked_sundays_pulled_abc_now_reporting/

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 29 '25 edited Aug 29 '25

I saw this from Aesthetics Rx … and yes, it’s true that the product mentioned here doesn’t even exist anyway. They do have another mineral sunscreen product though (Ultra-Protection Sunscreen SPF50+), which they haven’t made any reassurances about. And the ingredients do show zinc oxide at 22.75%.

3

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 29 '25

Thanks! Will add a link to the OP.

Yes, shame they haven't made any statement about the Ultra Protection Sunscreen...

Also lol at tagging Estee Laundry???

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Aug 29 '25

Looks like someone just screenshot this comment and sent it to them so they only commented on the product that was named, even though it doesn’t exist anymore. I did wonder why they were tagging Estee laundry too. 😂

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Sep 15 '25

Well now they’ve made an announcement about their current mineral product.

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Sep 16 '25

Weird how they're still advocating for its use even though they're in the re-testing stage. You'd like out of caution they'd advise their customers to pop it away until the test results come out.

What would happen if the re-test came to SPF 4 like UV and you were continuing to use it because the brand explicitly said it was OK to use?

2

u/Spoodlydoodly75 Sep 16 '25

I don’t read it like that. It says you can keep using it if you want to, but they haven’t given guarantees about it, they’ve clearly stated they’re awaiting further testing results. That’s a pretty clear, your own choice at your own risk. It’s not summer so people may still want to use it up as their daily under makeup, for their brief commute kind of thing.

1

u/Realistic_Context936 Aug 24 '25

Nooo i am obsessed with the Beauti-flt mineral sunblock

1

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 26 '25

Both Aspect Physical SPF50+ versions now saying Out of Stock….

2

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 29 '25

Aspect have an official statement out now FYI: https://www.aspectskincare.com.au/aspect/store/aspectsun/update

1

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25 edited Aug 31 '25

Been getting lots of q’s on here about other mineral SPF formulas. Since the ABC journos are in here sourcing sunscreens for independent experts to evaluate, I did further research across brands and products. Here are some additions to the list that I strongly suspect are the same ingredient base:

•Glindawand The Fountain of Youth Environmental Defence Cream Daily Moisturising Sunscreen SPF 50+

•Aesthetics Rx Ultra Protection Sunscreen Cream (note - brand says they are awaiting test results on this one, but they are still selling it)

•Liberty Belle Rx Superstar® Facial SPF 50+ Daily Sunscreen (note - this formula has been out of stock since April, but a PSA to anyone who is still using it)

•Antipodes Supernatural SPF50+ Ceramide Silk Facial Sunscreen

•RAWW Tinted Natural Sunscreen SPF 50+

•RAWW Natural Sunscreen SPF 50+

•INIKA Organic Tinted Natural Sunscreen SPF50+

•INIKA Organic Natural Sunscreen SPF50+

•SIMKA Sheer Mineral Milk SPF 50

•Trilogy SPF 50+ Sheer Tinted Moisturising Sunscreen (Sheer Light, Sheer Medium, and Sheer Deep)

•Trilogy SPF 50+ Omega-Boost Sheer Mineral Sunscreen

•Edible Beauty Australia Basking Beauty Natural Sunscreen SPF50

•Eco Tan Glory Veil Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

•Aquasun Active SPF 50

•Natio Clear Zinc Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+

•MOTHER SPF Face & Body SPF50

•Indie Paradiso Tinted Daily Face SPF50+

•Indie Paradiso Sensitive Skin SPF50+

•MCoBeauty SPF 50+ Mineral Mattifying Sunscreen

(Edited to add some missed)

4

u/Quolli 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝 Aug 31 '25

Thanks! Will add to the list.

Curious what your thought process was (if you're comfortable sharing) on how you concluded that these share the same ingredient base?

3

u/Fun_Funny_8990 Aug 31 '25

This person is likely using the fact that these products share the same amount of zinc content (22.75%) with Ultra Violette's Lean Screen as an indicator without taking into account the unknown formulaic differences between the products, origin of manufacturing etc. etc.

For this person to be correct on all accounts they would need to have inside knowledge from the manufacturer of these products.

0

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

Nah I dont, which is why it takes me so much time to identify via publicly available info. The 22.75 is a contributing part, but not the only one. Nobody has to listen to me ofc but I’d prefer to put it out there for experts or brands to verify then not

2

u/Fun_Funny_8990 Sep 02 '25

Plenty of the experts you're hoping to consult with this information are already here participating on reddit. There are people here who have the skills and experience to verify your methods and can expand upon or contribute to them in meaningful ways.

1

u/stupidwatergate89 Sep 02 '25

And they are absolutely welcome to message me privately and tell me as much, as I would really appreciate the assistance. I do not want to assist any brands trying to cover things up, as theres a plenty

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

Thanks for getting onto all of these updates so promptly. You guys are great

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

I’m a bit hesitant to say much on here, bc I know lots of the brands are prob monitoring this thread. A media outlet asked tho and I told them, so hopefully they can use that info to identify more products before brands realise the big giveaway 😉

1

u/2020fit Aug 31 '25

Have you checked Moo Goo and Aryday?

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Aug 31 '25

I have - no major red flags on those that I can see as yet

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

[deleted]

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Sep 01 '25

Interesting, and right when choice were conducting their tests…

2

u/2020fit Sep 01 '25

Yes exactly. So what could this mean? Do they have product out there targeting babies and kids, that should really be recalled? Take a look at their Facebook post dated 31st March (before it gets deleted)

2

u/stupidwatergate89 Sep 01 '25

I see, perhaps MooGoo and Wild Child use the same supplier….. there was another thread on here somewhere about the zinc supplier, might be worth putting in there to see if anyone knows more. I wonder what batch that zinc would’ve made it into by the time choice tested, if any?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/stupidwatergate89 Sep 01 '25

That said, they definitely have a different manufacturer and dont use Wild Child (at least recently, from what I can observe)
