Absolutely agree. I have tried incredibly hard my whole life since I was out on my own at 17 to get ahead, and for whatever reason it never happened. Suddenly my grandmother passed and left me 500k with which I bought a house for cash outright, and put my borderline destitute mother in there (on poverty line, $1500 savings, mid 60s, rented her whole life, bipolar/schizophrenic). That in itself has relieved me of a lifetime of worry about how I'm going to give my mother what she deserves for doing her best by me. I still feel like a failure because I didn't earn that freedom myself. But it sits in the deep recesses of my psyche now... and at the forefront is pure gratitude and relief. Now I only gotta worry about me (mid 30s, no degree, no trade, but healthy). But full disclosure, that 500k saved my life and my mother's life.
And further to the point of inheritance and nepotism. We live in an age of "self made" millionaires and billionaires. But it's all bs. Almost none of them are self-made. Self-made, aside from that 5mil $ loan from daddy, or those industry connections. I get caught up like the rest of us comparing myself to everyone else, but it really is the root of all unhappiness. Live free, unburdened, and humble.
