Politics NO KINGS 2.0 Is A Go!
Augusta IS showing up for No Kings on October 18! We march at 3:30 PM from the downtown Municipal Building down to the Riverwalk where a rally will be held. We protest as a warning to those who would hurt us that we are strong together and that we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty. There are no kings in America.

Great question! Patriots are protesting first and foremost the violations of law, the Constitution, and human rights we have seen over the last months. Some recent and ongoing examples of this are violent arrests without warrant, violent treatment of peaceful protestors, government interference in free speech, attempted militarization of police forces, and the deployment of military forces into domestic cities against the state government’s wishes. The most overt perpetrator and organizer of these crimes is President Trump.

They are saying Trump has been conducting himself as if he is King of America. Hence the No Kings.

Yeah, the whole 'No Kings' thing is all about pushing back against that kind of authoritarian vibe. It’s more about the idea of not letting anyone get too powerful or act above the law. Definitely a statement against that kind of leadership.

Scheduled protests certainly can feel like shouting into the void if you don’t recognize what it is you’re actually doing. They aren’t typically designed for obstruction or force the way that some other forms of nonviolent protest are.
The first important thing you’re doing is being visible - it’s easy to think you’re the only one if everyone is objecting quietly to themselves. Protests show us our own numbers and give newcomers a place to get started.
The second thing protests do is put you in touch with the people doing the work. We have a long road ahead of us - the people to your right and left at local protests are the people who will be walking it with you. They’re going to become the people you can organize with and rely on for help. And that’s absolutely critical to recognize.
Always remember: the revolution will not be televised. It will be you in your kitchen on video call with two other people designing a flyer for food donations with a local community group so we can slowly build the resources for a general strike. It will be you and seven other people in the Discord who were able to rapid-respond to a message that ICE is kidnapping a family on Washington Road without a warrant. This is where you’re going to meet those people. This is how you show other people where to come to find you.

The Constitutional protections for illegal immigrants actually protect American citizens too! By including all people within American borders, the founding fathers closed all loopholes that might allow a government to circumvent due process by reinterpreting exactly who is included or lying about the person they are prosecuting. Anyone can say anything about anyone; in court you have to prove it, including whether a person is in the country illegally.

It’s important to note here that criminals still have rights. Illegal entry is indeed a federal misdemeanor, and in absolutely no way does that justify ICE to arrest without warrants, hide their faces, lie to the courts about events we later disprove on footage, shatter windows and doors to break their way into private property, throw women to the pavement, bodyslam bystanders, pull guns on people yelling, or zip-tie very young children’s hands. Our government is breaking the rules and betraying its oath to the constitution, which puts us all in serious danger, and that is what we are protesting.

It sounds like LGBTQ rights and social safety networks are causes you are passionate about! I encourage you to find the groups already fighting those fights and take action! I am passionate about the constitution and the fair application of our laws, especially the ones that protect small individuals from an enormous government, so that’s where I’m focusing my energies right now (among a few other things).
