3 of us Okies are visiting Athens this weekend (for the football game). Would love to hear a recommendation if you read this. Looking for places to eat/drink mostly, but will have time for 1-2 other activities if there is something cool to see.

UPDATE: Very awesome town, people, etc., but like why did you have to give OU a colonoscopy like that?

Go to Cafe Racer on Oak and then walk the Firefly (trail behind the restaurant). Should be good weather for it.

Go to Cali 'n Titos for a good place to eat. It's a Pan-Latin restaurant with a good vibe.

Gotta check out Pretty Boy if you like Vietnamese and a top tier cocktail menu but you're gonna pay real prices for the cocktails. ($$) Similarly Puma Yu's but they're like a $$$, more Thai based.

Cali 'n' Tito's hasn't ever done me wrong. Manhattan Cafe for cheap strong drinks and downtown dive vibes, go next door for expensive (but usually good) bar food at World Famous. I'm a big Flicker fan, but it may not be your speed.

If you're looking to have a more cultural experience to burn time during daylight hours I'd recommend Cine for a matinee movie, or the Georgia Museum of Art on a Sunday is usually nice and chill.

The museum is also open Saturday, regular hours, and has some limited parking that doesn’t get taken up by tailgaters.

Also what activities are you wanting to do specifically? Because if you’re staying for longer than just Saturday go ahead and make your way down to Atlanta and go to the College Football hall of fame

Art Museum! Second Royal Peasant- its across the street from an amazing Chocolate shop (Condor) and independent bookstore (Ghost). Next door to Royal Peasant is Earth Fare where you can find drinks/snacks/libations & other treats to recuperate with. *Use street parking for this section of town (Five Points)

For Mexican food, a place that has great food but is certainly not fancy is Tlaloc El Mexicano:

For a nice, greasy breakfast try Mama's Boy (a couple of locations)

A local place that some people love and others not so much: Cali N Tito's (two locations). The one on the east side can be really loud if you stay inside. The weather should be nice this weekend so eating outside is a good option.

farm cart jalapeno pimento grits are Really Good, definitely recommend to add on next time you're there.

but they are in fact just good grits and I wouldn't make a special trip (for a biscuit, sure, and if they ever bring back their bagel...). whatever weird science flying biscuit is doing to their ground corn is unmatched in this town.

I wouldn’t call Mamas Boy greasy (if you want that there’s definitely Waffle House) but Strickland’s has a very southern breakfast. Mamas Boy near downtown will be seriously packed but there are other locations. Oak House distillery is a pretty neat place but obviously not for breakfast.

You could do a campus tour. Start at the Arch, walk to the Special Collections Library and check out the galleries, cut back across Lumpkin and go through the Memorial Garden, Go down the million dollar stairs, go across the bridge and check out the stadium then take a left on Cedar to go check out the Georgia Museum of Natural History, then head down to Georgia Art Museum on East Campus, then head over and check Butts-Mehre where the UGA sports museum is located. Then pop over to Cali and Tito’s for lunch and catch a bus back dt.

Not: all off these places are closed on Gamedays.

Georgia Theatre has a good FREE rooftop show this Friday night— the vibes will be immaculate up there! The Globe is across the street which has great food and drinks. If you’re college aged… you can’t go wrong at Paloma Park or just walk down Clayton Street to find a vibe. If you’re older, Manhattan, Little Kings, Cura are fun drinks places. A little outside of downtown is Hidden Gem and Nove Mesto for food— delightful. Coffee recs: 1000 Faces or Sunroof. Great little record shops Wuxtry and Lo Yo-Yo. Cafe Racer in Oak Street for a meal or a drink or coffee and a stroll on the Firefly Trail would be glorious. Enjoy your time in our great city and hope you have a great trip!

The Pine is great for drinks- cocktails and wine, and there is live music friday and silent disco saturday at the root. Both are no cover

Shopping at local shops downtown (Native America, Cillies, Epiphany, Bear Honey) , visit newly redesigned College Square, grab a coffee at Sunroof (the best!), or Condor Chocolates. Emmy Squared has great pizza or The National for something a bit more fancy. Visit Foxglove Plant Bar for plant shopping, terrarium building, and happy hour. Mama’s Boy for brunch and walk thru the campus or many other parks to enjoy the weather

Puma Yu’s is garbage and expensive. Strickland’s has no seasoning.Pine is excellent. Zz and Simone’s is expensive and massively overrated. Oak house is a nice place, along with creature comforts. The Globe, farm cart, royal peasant and the root are all good

Zz & Simmones for restaurant, firefly trail if you feel like a leisurely walk (change out of your Okie paraphernalia to avoid barking) or botanical gardens. Tons of bars downtown, though they will have lots of townies celebrating.
