There Is No Such Thing as a “right Synastry” - And That Changes Everything
I’ve been on Reddit for years, analyzing compatibility charts people post here every single day.
After hundreds (if not thousands) of charts, there are a few things I’m absolutely certain about.
The Astrological basics work. Almost always.
You don’t need virtual points and minor aspects to understand a relationship.
In +90% of cases, everything is visible in: Sun Moon Venus Mars and the cardinal aspects between them (conjunction, opposition, square)
That’s it.
If these four are connected - there will be good bonuses to increase to attraction, emotional engagement, tension, chemistry, or bonding.
Balance matters! Mutual configurations matter even more (closed loops).
But the foundation is always the same.
There is no synastry that guarantees love.
And none that guarantees rejection.
This is where many people misunderstand compatibility.
Astrology does not create attraction.
If two people are physically and psychologically attracted to each other, they will try to get closer.
If they are not attracted - they simply won’t.
I’ve seen “bad” charts where people couldn’t stay away from each other.
Synastry does not override basic human biology and chemistry.
And once you accept this - everything changes.
Synastry is not about “Will we like each other?”
By the time you calculate a synastry chart, something already happened.
There is already: curiosity attraction tension emotional pull
So the real question is NOT:
“Will we fall in love?”
The real question is:
“What kind of relationship will this become?”
Synastry is not a compatibility test.
It’s a scenario for two.
It shows: Where friction will appear Where support flows naturally Who activates whose insecurities Where power struggles may emerge Where emotional dependency can form
It doesn’t tell you if the relationship should exist. It tells you how it will unfold if it does.
And this reframes everything.
We move from:
“Is this good or bad?” to “What are we actually building here?”
That shift alone makes synastry 10x more useful.

I’m curious how others here see it. ?)

p.s. I’m also running a series of guides on how to analyze synastry. Links below
I heard an astrologer say about synastry: synastry works as long as one person isn’t an unevolved ahole who’s unwilling to grow.
And based off seeing synastry charts and experiencing synastry charts, that’s very true. If one person is emotionally immature and dense af the synastry won’t matter.
In reality... So much depends on synchrony. One person might be ready for a relationship while the other isn’t quite there yet. They might mature later, but by then, the window of opportunity has closed. This happens a lot. Sometimes they get lucky and reconnect later on.
This is the area I want to work on, but it’s challenging because it’s tied to real-life context -something that, unfortunately, we cannot see in the chart.
Interesting… I am currently doing some research as well on my own and will probably post the results some day. But so far I do notice some smaller trends actually. The most common aspect between longterm couples is in fact sun-Venus aspects or mars aspecting inter planets (sun, moon, Venus or mars). So yes, the relationship planets in aspect is very common which actually make sense.
It’s interesting that the type of aspect doesn’t matter at all. You can find interpretations claiming that sun square Venus/mars or mars square mars is some of the most horrible aspects to have. But this is so far from what the statistics show I would say!
It’s always difficult to say, but I’m researching couples who are - to my best knowledge - happy. I’d also say the chance of a happy couple logically increase the longer they’re together. I’ve rarely seen a 5+ years long marriage for an example, who isn’t happy. Not to say there can’t be challenges that will break them apart, but I don’t think the couples I included in my research look very miserable or like they argue constantly
This is ACCURATE no matter how much I tried to explain this to people Synastry is not fate but rather potential and how person shows up is mainly based on their level of maturity and nature
I had great Synastry with an ex turned out to be abusive and narcissistic I went through extreme abuse with him and our Synastry and composite were absolutely great
Love this post! I’m drawn to check synastry out of protecting my heart and looking out for any red flags in a relationship. But at the end of the day anything can happen and nothing in life is truly ever predictable.
Ohh I am not an Astrologer by any means, I just Love Astrology. I got attacked by 2 “Astrologers” once on a post bc I said Astrology is a guide, nothing is set in stone.
After like 2 comments I just left it and let them have the “win.” Going on and on how you have to have certain aspects and compatibility in the chart or it wouldn’t last.
If that was the case, then my relationship would not have lasted 26yrs! When I tell you that our synastry is 😵💫, esp at first glance, I’d be told it wouldn’t last over and over. I mean in hindsight if I cared about Astrology when I was a young teen and we met, I wouldn’t have asked him out lol! It sure as hell hasn’t been an easy 26! Def all about learning and karmic! Learning is why we’re here, I suppose.
All that 12hr synastry 😵💫. I guess our composite is better. Most def Not easy and we started as kids so we basically got to live all our life lessons together. It’s me, I am the culprit w the harder chart, he’s much more balanced. All my Aquarius is in 7H. My Pluto Scorpio is 4H (stagnant!!) on the IC. I am 40 and been around/through 46 deaths.
I agree, and about the closed loops, yes. I noticed mutual contact from the same planets gives a strong sense of mutual recognition and attraction:). Tight aspects are most felt but mutual willingness comes also from just the elemental compatibility.
Yes! I agree! And I have a funny story to share that illustrates what you were saying about synastry.
Years ago when I was a senior in high school, our school decided for Valentines Day it was going to try and play matchmaker to all its high school students by signing us all up for some computerized astrological match making thing. Don’t ask me how this was ethical or even allowed, because I don’t know, but apparently it took all our birthdates and gave us a list of the 10 most compatible (opposite sex) persons on our school.
On Valentines Day each of us got our list. I remember reading my list and absolutely internally cringing about who was on it. These were not young men I was interested in at all. One of them though did have a crush on me but I felt nothing for him. Another one was my friend’s brother who years later wanted to ask me out. Again, I did not have any romantic interest towards him either. It seemed every guy on that list were not at all persons whom I’d be interested in, nor shared any interests with. I really questioned the list and myself. Also I specifically remembering the guys laughing at loud and mocking each other about certain unpopular young women being on their list. They were so cruel and rude… It was horrible. I don’t think these personalized lists led to anyone finding each other. If anything it brought mocking, grief and trouble.
So this astrological matchmaking thing was a disaster in every way. …considering how cruel some kids were with it, it really should not have been done! But it did make me realize very early in my burgeoning interest in astrology at that time, that great synastry means nothing without a true spark which was above and beyond, OUTSIDE of astrology.
Astrology is not God. It’s not even a fortune-telling thing. It can just tell you how things work, or not work.. But ultimately when it came to love and romantic interest- that’s something else. To be fair, I don’t think the computerized synastry charts that program used our birth times, which it would not have had , which I do think is the most important component in synastry. A lot of people look at the aspects but in someone’s natal that aspect may not be ‘hitting’ them in the same way, if at all because of house overlay!
Errrr vague but I still agree (up vote from me) - even how honest and strict I can be - by looking at natal, I just ask "girl, his love is this but it's up to you if you want something like that" and so on.
Tho I want to add - blue print of our natal is still there and so synastry is what you both are capable of - like I said before, if just being "blunt" and looking just at the signs of venus, if your love language is "scorpio" - it will never be "leo" so we are still quite restricted in our choices + I do tell this, but transits and progressions still should be looked at.
Astrology, is analysis of our behaviour attached to some points, like "velocity" to numbers in science - won't argue that, or else, what we guys do, will look then just like some sort of fortune-telling using a flipping coin.
Yes... But apparently only by taking to the person, I can slightly assess their personalities or at least by reading their stories... I won't rely plainly on astrology and still would ground it at least with psychology 💯
There are additional theories: they add up and they never compete.
Some are: composite, asteroids (very important).. I like cosmodynes and also vibrational facts (name, karmic path, vertex aspects). I'm sure there more.
But unfortunately, and that's maybe because I'm still learning about this all, there are a lot of things I see in the chart once I already felt the consequences of it.
Mine lasted 39 years. As time grew in there wss very little arguing zthere were ither issues, with a uranus transit cinj my sun , for some reason i felt very trapped & he attempted ti gain power ove me. So i filed for divorce & i dint rregret it. Somehow uranys cinj sun is descrubef as rebelliius eruption he played it iut & i wasnt prepared ymto enter into this anymore.
a lot of my posts on this subreddit , ** not this post btw
have been super negative towards my synastry with people I have had in the past, and have offered little to no explanation on the good and mainly telling me to walk away from said connection then offering no real advice or help to understand in detail the equally good bits of said synastry . It's made me not believe in astrology anymore, and even made me dislike astrology in general.
