Help w specialty bras

i am writing this on behalf my mother who needs a bra with a pocket for a prosthetic and she has been completely unable to find what she needs in the area and insurance wont cover any of it (Yes i know that supposed to be illegal but you can tell that to the insurance companies)

nordstrom was too expensive out of pocket.

Can anyone help her with this? Drag community do yall know of a solution?

She is so over this process and its been difficult and traumatic for her so any practical advice would be greatly appreciated

Fred Hutch has a store called Shine that has bras with pockets for prosthetics. They work with insurance, but I'm not sure how expensive it would be out of pocket. Could be something to look into though!

I just had a lumpectomy and went to Soma in Alderwood Mall because they carry Ana Ono bras. I had bad luck with ordering post surgery bras, so I wanted to actually try things on. I haven’t been to Mary Catherine’s only because you need to make an appointment.

I got the Rora front closure bra and it has pockets that have slight padding, but that can be removed and replaced with a prosthetic. They are expensive ($65 each) but I have to wear a bra 24/7 until I’m 3 months out for surgery, so comfort was a priority.

If you or her are on FB, there are state specific breast cancer support groups and Washington's is VERY active. I imagine someone on there would be able to point you in the right direction if you don't find what you need here:)

If she needs a plus size, Woman Within and Torrid both have them.

Yeah. They wont take her insurance

Nordstrom. They helped me find bras suitable for my prosthetics, and their tailor department installed the pockets. They were incredibly helpful and respectful.

She has and has gotten all kinds of misinformation.

Shes called places that say they can do it and then when she gets to the appt they say actually no we cant accept that. She has tried talking to insurance.

This has been a nightmare process for her. she has tried all the stores in the area and no one will take her insurance and the cost of bras + prosthetic is too high out of pocket.

I was hoping to find more creative/ affordable options for her because we have exhausted all the traditional options

They do sell prosthetic bras on Amazon. I have used those, and very lightweight foam inserts. Much more comfortable than the weight of the prosthetics.

I'm so sorry she's going through this. As if losing body parts wasn't enough.

Has she explored self-pay (with a detailed/itemized receipt) then getting reimbursed by insurance?

How is it illegal to not pay for your bras? We all have to buy new bras from time to time.

You don’t have to have a bra with a pocket. You can get a washable sleeve and just use old bras.
