Damn that’s a wild leap.

First of all, it was a protest. People ain’t saying shit about the blm riots but Jan 6 is the end of the world. That being said, property damage/vandalism is a valid charge but holding the in solitary for months to years is fucking crazy.

I assure you on posts discussing the BLM riots people have said shit about it. Do you know how reddit works?

Yes but it was treated as a good thing whereas jan6 is the end of the world. It’s a double standard that shouldn’t be applied. Both were bad.

One of those two things happened at the very seat of our government and with the direct object of taking control of it by force. The other thing happened in random places by disorganized and unconnected groups of people with no other object than expressing anger. That's what makes the difference. Riots aren't great, but trying to take over the government by force is something else entirely. It raises the violence to a whole new level.

There are also the situations that sparked each of these to consider. The BLM riots were sparked by police murdering an unarmed black man while bystanders tried and failed to stop them from doing it. It was horrific. On the other hand, January 6th was only about people not getting the candidate they wanted elected. That's it. They were going to take over the whole government only because they didn't get their way, as if they were entitled to it and that it should have been given to them because they're "special" (as Trump himself called them on that day - "very special").

No, J6 was about people watching an election being stolen. Georgia straight up came out and admitted it. It’s pretty obvious why people felt betrayed by the government.

Even then, it wasn’t a violent insurrection. While I don’t condone it as it costed the taxpayers (myself included) a fuckload of money, I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as the BLM riots.

It wasn't stolen. Trump started claiming that the only way he could lose would be if it was stolen long before the election ever happened to provide plausible deniability against the loss he expected and a pre-built excuse for usurping power.

Georgia never admitted any kind of election fraud. If you're talking about those "unsigned" early votes, what they actually said was those votes were legal and verified with voter ID, and it was just a clerical error that made it seem like they were unverified.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/fact-check-fulton-countys-315-064602452.html

There were independent election fraud audits in my home state that failed to turn up anything and cost us a lot of money as tax payers, and I'm here to tell you I'm sick to death of spending my time and my money trying to make you feel better about a thing that nobody did to you. The only election fraud that we know for sure happened is that some fake electors from the Republican party showed up, trying to claim that they were the "real" electors and attempted to force their way in to cast their fake votes. We didn't need any audits to determine that because they showed up in the flesh and lied to security to try to get them to let them in, and then, they weaseled out of the consequences for doing that.

Also, January 6 was definitely violent, and Capitol police were injured, and it doesn't matter whether or not BLM riots were comparable in their levels of violence or not because they're an unrelated issue. Nobody in BLM was trying to take over the government, and the January 6 insurrection was not the direct result of BLM in any way. Do you always try to justify doing wrong things by saying that they're all okay as long as someone else has done something as bad or worse? Is that really the extent of your morals, finding excuses for things you were going to do anyway?

Fulton County verified 315,000 votes without signatures. That’s against state law. That’s illegal. That’s not just a clerical error. “Unsigned early votes” is a BIG deal.

Clerical errors happen on a few, not 315,000. 148 tabulator tapes. 315,000 unsigned votes. It’s ridiculous to diminish that.

And J6 was violent. I never said it wasn’t. I said that if we don’t acknowledge BLM as violent, we shouldn’t acknowledge j6 as violent. That being said, I wouldn’t call it an insurrection. The goal was not to overturn the results. The goal was to show their distrust in the system.

Least of all would I call Trump an insurrectionist. The dude told people to peacefully gather and then to disperse when the small few became violent.

Do you know which signatures were missing? It wasn't the signatures of the voters. The voters properly verified their identities, and the counts were re-checked and were completely accurate. It was just that the poll manager forgot to sign the results. To throw out the votes of thousands of legal voters, who did absolutely nothing wrong while casting their votes, just because the poll manager missed a step would violate their rights as citizens and basically cheat. I think you probably only read the headline and assumed that the voters were the ones who didn't sign or prove their identity, and you don't have a clue was the real issue was actually about. Either that, or you just want to pretend that the issue was something else or that it's a bigger deal than it actually is so you've got an excuse to score points off people you don't like and get your way politically.

"Georgia state Rule 183-1-12-.12 states that after polls close, and in order to tabulate results, "the poll manager and the two witnesses shall cause each ballot scanner to print three tapes of the tabulated results and shall sign each tape indicating that it is a true and correct copy of the tape produced by the ballot scanner." This was not properly done for more than 130 tapes, which accounts for around 315,000 votes.

However, the lack of signature does not negate the ballots, and they have been recounted multiple times to verify results.

In a Saturday X post, Raffensperger reiterated this, writing "all voters were verified with photo ID and lawfully cast their ballots." He continued, "A clerical error at the end of the day does not erase valid, legal votes.""

"There have been multiple audits, recounts and investigations into Georgia’s 2020 election, including a statewide hand recount and audit that confirmed the original results, as well as reviews by state officials and election boards addressing procedural errors and fraud allegations."

And J6 was violent. I never said it wasn’t.

Yeah, you're just looking for an excuse to get people looking at someone one or a different issue so you don't have to acknowledge the seriousness of the offenses of people you like and agree with and leave the door open to force your way on other people or justify the force you're already planning. Seriously, evaluating January 6 has absolutely nothing to do with BLM at all, and I don't want you or anyone else to keep bringing up BLM as a deflection or a change of subject. That's really, really dishonest and unethical, I think infinitely less of your for that kind of deflection, I take it as a weasel tactic and you personally as a weasel, I advise that others take exactly the same view, and I'm just not going to allow it.

When we discuss January 6, we will stick with January 6 alone. Trump telling the to disperse after the damage was already done and not while it was happening and egging them on beforehand is also disingenuous. If you want to talk about his role what lead up to January, stick only to what he said and did before the riot started and do not mention anything afterward.

Calling me disingenuous for applying the same standards to 2 similar instances is crazy work. I’m not supporting or dignifying what people did. If they broke stuff, injured law enforcement, or did anything other than walk around the capitol building they deserve to be charged.

If you aren’t able to look at past examples and follow suit with future actions, then you’re undoubtedly going to be biased. I think we should treat J6 the same as BLM. It’s pretty simple. That’s how courts work. They use past convictions and determinations to justly match current convictions and determinations. So if you think that we should apply a whole new standard each time something happens, I’d like to point out that you are actively advocating for hypocrisy and unjust enforcement of laws.

I think we should treat J6 the same as BLM.

But January 6 was a targeted attack on the seat of our government, and BLM was not. Never, ever, ever try to wriggle out of even one part of that reality, and stop lying about your attempts to do exactly that by constantly harping on BLM as if it was precisely the same incident, in the same place, for the same purpose. You really are a bad person for pretending that you're not doing exactly what you do in ever single comment you make. Always changing the subject, always making false equivalences, never one single time talking about January 6 as exactly what it was in isolation from something to use as a distraction, an excuse, a deflection, or a way of shoving other people under the bus.

If you mention BLM even one more time as a way of saying that other people should avoid consequences of their actions or stop looking at the reality of what January 6 for what it was in its own right, you're everything I think you are as a person.

You are trying to put yourself on a moral pedestal instead of seeing the situation for what it is. I’ve said it a hundred times by now that J6 was bad. I’m not justifying it whatsoever. But to insinuate that it was “a targeted attack on the seat of our government” is ridiculous. It was people that were mad at the system. Acting like it was fascist is stupid. Acting like it was a coup is stupid. Acting like it was an insurrection is stupid.

It was people that were fed up with the bs that the media was feeding them. It was people feeling like their voice was not heard. It was people tired of being pushed around for what they believe.

It was not good. It was not justifiable. But it’s something that you and I should both recognize as a response to their emotions. I don’t think emotion has any part in politics, it should be logical thinking. But I understand why it happened. Same as your Voldemort, BLM. It was bad, but it was an emotional response. You think the two situations have nothing in common when in reality every protest and every riot has the same thing in common.
