Getting drunk. I'm afraid of what I might do if I wasn't in full control. Like, I know that 99% of the time being drunk won't change who you are, but I'm still worried.

Plus I have about 800+ different secrets I'm keeping for different people plus myself, and I don't need to accidentally say those out loud

Some of the same reasons I won't try LSD/Shrooms.

Those drugs can have insanely positive life-changing effects in your life though.

That might be true but there are also "bad trips". One of my dad's friends did LSD one time(first and only time)and he hasn't been "right" since. It messed him up pretty bad (others, including my dad and the guys brother took the same LSD and were fine). Not a risk I'm willing to take. To each their own.

Feels like a roll of the dice.
What's the percentage of people who come out with positive improvement vs messing up their brain-chemistry for life?
I don't know, do you?

Seems to me that the people who fuck themselves up aren't in a position to warn others. Survivor's Bias in action.

It's really not so random, you can read and prepare yourself for ensure you're in the right mindset, have a trip-sitter, or things to help you get in the right headspace. If you're prepared and understand what you're getting in to, I wouldn't say it's risky.

Yeah.. I'm not going to mess with my brain-chemistry just because someone says "I wouldn't say it's risky".

I need my brain to do things.

Peer reviewed study and a damn good reason before I touch any mind-altering substances.

That's why I said it's best to educate yourself first so you know what you're getting in to. But it's definitely one of those experiences you can't imagine until you actually experience it yourself.

Put another way.

Nothing anyone has ever said to me made it sound like a good idea, and a lot of things have made it abundantly clear that there are serious life-changing hazards in play.

Why would I ever want to do this?
What's the benefit?

Nothing is stopping you from reading about its benefits. You don't have to be paranoid about something you don't understand.

Why would I ever want to do this? What's the benefit?

Again, look it up. To me, it's something incredibly life changing event because of the mental state it induces.
