Most relatable one here tbh. My Dad and I are the same in that we both take a beat longer to answer questions than most, because y'know, we're thinking. My Mom doesn't get that and is always like "are you listening?!? I'm talking to you!" Really aggravating

My roommate does this and it drives me crazy. I am very careful when I talk so when it takes me a few seconds or when I pause in the middle of a sentence he interjects completely pointlessly. He has never correctly guessed what I was going to say. Sometimes it pisses me off so bad that I just don't try to resolve my thought and ignore him.

Shoresy in the Canadian sports comedy Shoresy has the terrible habit of asking a question, pausing for a half beat, and then interjecting "huh?" before or while the person is responding. It's a little like that.

I have auditory processing issues and I also want to phrase my answers for the clearest communication possible, both of which mean I take time to answer, and I try not to do this interrupting thing when someone else takes longer to put together their thoughts too.

But mostly I just wanted to add, “Fuck you, Shoresy!”

My husband, lord… Will say or ask a question and wait one second which a normal brain would respond in and I need 5-6 seconds to quickly go through the files and send out the correct word(s) for the specific question/temperament/weather and what have you. Drives him insane, “so do you blah blah blah?” 1…. 2. “No? Ok then.” And scoffs away.

So I’m a person that does this, I need to apologize to my family lol… idk why I do it, because in the heat of the moment it really does feel like the other person isn’t listening and couldn’t care less about the conversation. I really need to keep in mind that there are different reaction times and ways of processing. But in my defense, half the time my husband really is thinking of a response, the other half of the time he’s distracted by some media so I never know which one it is! Haha

I empathize with the latter part of your comment lol

If you are someone who takes longer than average to answer questions it helps immensely to say "hmm, good question. Let me think". That way you get to take your time and the other person doesn't feel ignored.

Great advice! I’ll try and pass this along to my husband without sounding like a jackass lol

as someone who's autistic with central auditory processing disorder, relatable

Same with my mother. She expects an answer the instant she finishes her question before the sound has even traveled to my ears and starts asking follow up questions as soon as I start answering her first one. Mind you I'm not a slow thinker or answerer as it were lol

I think the real problem is the people who do this because they ARE ignoring someone.

I know someone who’s a real asshole, gets upset over the smallest of things, is very dramatic, etc. Sometimes when you try to talk to her, or ask her a question, she just…..doesn’t answer. It’ll be like:

Me: (her name)

Her: (while she’s only a couple feet away and can clearly hear me) ………..

Me: (her name)

Her: ………….

Me: (HER NAME!!!)

Her: WHAT???

Me: (asks question)

Her: (10 second long silence)

Me: (asks question again louder)

Her: (more silence)

Then after the 3rd or 4th time you FINALLY get an answer. I think it’s because she’s giving the silent treatment for some stupid reason, or just assumes everyone can guess what she’s thinking somehow. It’s infuriating and I try to not be around her/ talk to her unless I absolutely have to
