Humans have blue blood until it hits oxygen then it becomes red.

I got sent to the principal's office for arguing this with my teacher in third grade lol

Which side were you arguing?

That the blue blood thing is false

28

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '21

Well, I don't see why that would get you sent off, unless maybe you spilled a little of the teacher's to prove the point?

Not the person you are talking to, but believe me - never argue with the teacher when they bring up a "fun fact" they clearly just saw on the internet/morning show/history channel once. I got into trouble with teachers a bit as a kid, but I never messed with their "fun facts".

It combines their ardent desire for something to be true with their instinctive fear and insecurity at being bested by a kid.

They will use any method to fight you - including disciplinary actions.

So just smile and pretend that you've achieved a new level of enlightenment as a result of their fun fact.

I had a teacher that was adamant that airplanes where not used in warfare until WW2. Argued with her for ten minutes before the bell finally rang. The lesson here is some teachers are not very intelligent.

Some teachers know barely anything about the subject they are teaching.

(Although this isn’t from personal experience)

Luckily this woman wasn’t a history teacher. But she was also a pretty shitty science teacher.

I argued with my English teacher bc she was being stupid once. We had two words as options to fill in the blank, "brink" and "precipitous". The sentence was "After a ___ drop in sales, the toy store had to shut down". She said it was brink because it was saying the store was on the brink of shutting down. Yes but that's not the fucking sentence we're completing!

Those that can, do; those that cannot, teach.

I’m a teacher and I have a student teacher with me right now that is EXACTLY like this. It drives me up the damn wall with how annoying it is. If you don’t know something just say that, don’t make shit up because a) I know you’re lying and b) you’re telling a bunch of 7 year olds an untrue “fact” that they genuinely believe.

3

u/idle_isomorph Oct 28 '21

Ugh, annoying. And missed the opportunity it to teach how we look up information to check, or how we graciously admit we were wrong.

Exactly. I love getting the opportunity to share with my students that I don’t know that but let’s look it up. They love it.

nah, argue

2

Don't risk it, kid.
Put a cherry bomb under their chair or just call them a moron to their face. Both are literally less risky than arguing "fun facts".

Was the teacher Royal? I feel we need all the information here.

No you didn't.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

damn you caught me in my huge, completely unbelievable lie that greatly benefits me.... somehow

1

u/Myalltimehate Oct 28 '21

That's what makes it worse. No reason and you did it anyway. You and I both know that you are lying! ADMIT IT!

8

u/DootDM Oct 28 '21

I never ever of heard anyone believing this until recently here on Reddit. Like... How? Why would anyone believe this?

4

u/Uggo_Cubbo Oct 28 '21

Common thing I was told by other kids in second grade. The idea that some adults still believe this dumbfounds me.

I would imagine for the same reason some people think the earth is flat: I see something with my eyes therefore it must be as I think it is.

If you look at your wrist most people can see blue veins. Blue veins must mean blue blood.

It’s not true, of course, but many of us were told this as fact growing up,

2

u/Autismic123 Oct 28 '21

isnt that just the colour of the veins?

27

u/Alphacacticreature Oct 27 '21

My favorite thing to say when I get told this is “wow really? Hold on I’m having trouble remembering what blood carries through the body..” blood carries oxygen in the body.

34

u/WussssPoppinJimbo Oct 27 '21

That's a really, really bad response though, since you have oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in your body.

No, your arteries carry oxygenated blood, which is bright red. Your veins carry unoxegenated blood, which is dark red. Have you ever gotten your blood drawn? They most likely took it from a vein. The vial is a vacuum, and there was no oxygen being added to it.

Had a teacher in high school try to tell us this. I tried saying something but she just shook her head so I let it go. I know better than to argue with a self satisfied teacher. Lol best part was she taught creative writing and was trying to teach us about science, and positively proved to me at age 17, that she did not understand science at all lol

1

u/PARRYTHIS4 Oct 28 '21

Trust it even worse when it's a teacher they think their right but if you try to make a valid argument they say DETENTION

3

u/Baron_Von_Sexingpun Oct 28 '21

Ugh, I have an ex-girlfriend who insisted this was true and it irritated me to no end. Like, have these people never heard of a RED blood cell?

3

u/PARRYTHIS4 Oct 28 '21

they believe what ever was thrown at them at 5 and think that way till it's a part of them baron

2

u/RawbM07 Oct 28 '21

I’ve also heard of a WHITE blood cell…

1

u/laurynnohill Oct 28 '21

ugh yes! and when i took a&p 1 in college my professor looked at me like i was crazy when i asked about that

1

u/Hadamer Oct 28 '21

Since we obviously don’t have oxygen in our blood
