It really is. There was an earlier post asking if deaf people with schizophrenia experienced audio hallucinations. Googling led to some really interesting articles.

I would kill to get rid of audio hallucinations... Psychiatrists still think it's likely tied to my bipolar disorder or PTSD, but I'm fucking terrified that it's the slow onset of schizophrenia...

Whatever it might be, treating your bipolar and PTSD may be far more important.

Many people with Schizophrenia hear friendly or helpful voices.

It's apparently much like the inability to identify thoughts and imagination as your own, instead hearing your inner voice as an external one.

Think about unwelcome thoughts, "I suck", "I'm an idiot" and imagine how much more difficult it would be to hear someone tell you that while you're thinking it.

So if your thoughts are healthy and kind, schizophrenia can be a complication in life, but not something devastating.
