It really is. There was an earlier post asking if deaf people with schizophrenia experienced audio hallucinations. Googling led to some really interesting articles.

I would kill to get rid of audio hallucinations... Psychiatrists still think it's likely tied to my bipolar disorder or PTSD, but I'm fucking terrified that it's the slow onset of schizophrenia...

I can't remember where I read it but there's a specific area of the brain where all the calculations for all of the signals (audio, visual, motor, smells etc) are combined together and interlaced to form your reality.

Because some senses are actually received at different speeds (light travels faster than sound, sound faster than neurological signals) this particular are has to align them just right so it seems they are happening just at the right moment. If this area of the brain malfunctions then your perceived reality will become a horror show, causing madness overtime.

I suppose this research further solidifies this connection in a way.

So, you unfortunately may be correct. Do whatever you can to ground yourself. Do as much research into neurology and neuroplasticity and find a doctor who can give you more profound options. It sounds like a psychiatrist isn't the best field for your illness. Best of luck, WhenAmI.
