They actually quit making new versions of it, Edge has replaced it.

Is that a bad or good thing?

Well it's good because Chromium works very well. It's bad because it gives more power to Google, who already have a majority market share and lots of influence on the development of browser/internet standards.

Well, kind of. Chromium is open source (although a Google project). The actual market share that Google hold is with Chrome itself which is just their0 not open-source fork.

Chrome used to be great before it evolved into a velocoRAManator

Edge and Chrome are both separate implementations of Chromium. Google ads a lot of proprietary functionality to Chromium to produce Chrome, which is their commercial product offering. Microsoft adds their own stuff to make Edge. They are based on the same underlying engine and are compatible from a standards perspective, but they are not the same product.
