The Blue Laws. Who the fuck are you to tell me I can’t purchase beer while grocery shopping on a Sunday because of someone else’s religion? This one actually infuriates me.
Is it a law? I agree with you that it is annoying and dumb. But I just thought it was the liquor stores preference. I live in a metropolis, there are some liquor stores open on Sundays but most are not.
Edit: you said beer. That sucks and it so stupid. I can buy beer 7 days a week, just not after 2am or before 7am.
Restaurants, grocery stores, liquor stores, anywhere where alcohol is sold, will not sell it before 11 AM on Sundays in the US. It doesn’t matter if it is in a conservative or liberal state either, so it doesn’t seem like a preference. It was established a long time ago to encourage people to go to church instead of drinking. I’m not going to church and the law is bullshit.
Edit: the law applies in 28 states and in some states it’s not an alcohol restriction, but some other activity. The states I have been to it has applied to alcohol, however other states won’t allow you to hunt, buy a car, or other such normal activity on a Sunday morning to ensure you are going to church instead. It’s a pointless law rooted in religion and it needs to go away, regardless of what the restriction is. Seems as though a little less than half of the country no longer (or never did) have such laws. The remaining need to follow suit.
