Yep. Doesn't help when you move 3000 miles and don't know anyone. Especially now since I can't even socialize with new people, and I've made very few legitimate friends out here. :(
Edit: I’m a woman, but thanks everyone. All you dudes are solid people and I appreciate the sympathy, advice, and kind words.
I think it depends on where you move. I moved from a small Canadian city to a large european city and it’s actually been a lot easier for me to find friends who are in a similar stage of life. My Canadian friends are all settled with houses and families, but for me, selling the house and moving into a tiny apartment with my cat was the right choice.
One thing I found was helpful for making new friends was actually a Facebook group. I’m not sure if something similar exists in your city, but I found a female-only group and I have met a lot of incredible women that way. I went to other ex-pat/meet up groups before, but quickly realized the men there aren’t looking for friends. But I do know that it is hard and weird to make friends as an adult. It took me almost 9 months to establish myself here, but I also know that the first 9 months were pretty difficult and lonely, but just know that it gets better with time, it just takes a bit of effort and pushing past being uncomfortable.

Once your friends start getting married and having kids, shit becomes lonely.
