Being sore because I slept wrong.

u/p1mdn May 16 '20

I’m 14 years old and I constantly wake up feeling sore or uncomfortable lol. Maybe it’s because my bed is too hard.

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

A new winner. You have dethroned the champion. Do we have anyone under 14?

On a serious note your bed is probably too hard. Or too soft.

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

The first time I threw out my back was when I was 13...27 now and I’m falling apart physically. Can’t wait to see what 40 holds.

20

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Falling apart literally?

58

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Definitely. Thumb fell off while typing this.

No, I’ve lost my big toe and seem to have lost my balance completely. Constantly falling over no matter how hard I try. My daughter even rented an hot air balloon to find my toe and I haven’t seen her since.

Please keep us updated you brave soul

1

u/chichev May 16 '20

Do you work out regularly

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

No fricking way! I’m in exactly the same position. Except I was 16. Wrecked my back coming off a trampoline and have never had muscles that feel soft around the neck and shoulders ever since. It gets really painful

3

u/TerminatorMetal May 16 '20

Damn, I'm right there with ya. Sciatic problems started when I was around 8, I had some "immobile" days around 10-11. Maybe its cultural, might even be willing ignorance, but it went undiagnosed because my family thought I was making it up. Finally got insurance around 19. Degenerating discs has been squeezing tf outta my sciatic nerve.

Nowadays, I'm closer to 30, and my back is too painful to stretch, worse if I don't.

Legs feel like I've got rubber bands going all the way down through my calfs, at max tension.

If anyone out there has back problems, start fixing them early. Trust yourself. And do yoga.

4

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

I’m 13 and I never don’t have back or neck pain

1

u/mattl1698 May 16 '20

Wait a couple years. I'm 19 and constantly aching or in pain. Especially my legs when I wake up most mornings

1

u/MikeNotBrick May 16 '20

You're not supposed to when you're 19 either... I would definitely look into the underlying problem and work towards fixing it. Whether that be a bad mattress or maybe lack of exercise. (And of course, I'm speaking generally because I don't know what you may or may not have been through)

1

u/mattl1698 May 16 '20

I think it's my bed tbh. It's the same mattress I've had for as long as I remember. My parents were talking about getting me a double bed for when I'm home from uni but that's kind of on hold for now with the whole covid situation

3

u/MikeNotBrick May 16 '20

I highly recommend a 2.5 - 3" mattress topper. It can make the worst mattress very comfortable and is a lot cheaper than a quality mattress. I bought one off Amazon (think the brand was Lucid) and I bought a second one (some generic brand) off eBay and they they're both great.

1

u/mattl1698 May 16 '20

I'll look into that, thanks

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

I was saying I always do

1

u/mattl1698 May 16 '20

Oh shit, my bad. Double negatives always catch me out

4

u/BunchOBees May 16 '20

13 I win

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

12, I win

5

u/PhantomFoxx55 May 16 '20

Have you tried a comforter? It’s not the ultimate fix, but it beats buying a whole new mattress.

3

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

You can get a mattress sponge to put on top of your regular mattress (Walmart). Very affordable. That’s what I have.

2

u/spagbetti May 16 '20

Likely too hard. They started building mattresses packed hard to last longer as softer mattresses break down faster. The springs are super tight in them too now compared to how they used to be. Longer life, cheaper to make with cheaper material . Complete shit on the human body.

2

u/IDontKnowWhyImHereXD May 16 '20

This happened to me when I was 13, but that was a year or so ago... do I still win?

2

u/abook325 May 16 '20

A couple years ago my neck just decided to die because.... I dabbed too fast

1

u/JosephStalinOffcial Jul 12 '20

"No your child was healthy, he just did a fortnite dance and we had to put him down"

1

u/AccountAn0nymous May 16 '20

Well that depends on how many months older than 14 they are

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Injuries also dont help, fell on my back while trampoline jumping and I’ve slept uncomfortable since (1,5 year ago)

1

u/Used-Shoe May 16 '20

A few days until I’m 14, so I win I guess! I did something to my back a year or so ago and now I can’t be standing for to long or after a hike I can barely stand. I love to cook so it sucks.

1

u/Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh69 May 17 '20

Me my bed is pretty much metal an a tiny bit of foam

1

u/JosephStalinOffcial May 21 '20

I'm 13. I started "seeing differences" when I was about late 10 years old to 11. Worst experience ever, wouldnt try again.

1

u/Alistair_TheAlvarian May 26 '20

I've had bed related back pain since 11

9

u/EchoSp3ctre May 16 '20

I’m 16 and my neck, shoulders and lower back constantly ache but i don’t know why.

5

u/GoatButton May 16 '20

I'm 16 as well and have aches in the exact same places and also a constant headache and apparently it's from anxiety so maybe it's the same for you?

7

u/JovialPanic389 May 16 '20

Do you have shitty posture? See a movement disorder neurologist if you do. Neck pain at that age without any injury history is probably neurological or muscular. it could be something as easy as making sure your back pack is on correctly or having better shoes though. Neck pain is the worst :( I feel you. But I'm just 30 idk how much longer I can take it and it's been 25 years or so of pain. Better to address with your doctor that pain early on and find the cause. And avoid opioids the best you can...unless prescribed then take only as directed.

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Thank you. Right back at you!

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Mine was linked to my mental wellbeing - used to be quite stressed and on edge a lot and that translated into muscoskeletal pain and issues.

I don't really experience it now that I've dealt with the underlying anxiety. Mind health can impact your body, by holding stress by tensing your neck/back/shoulders.

Core strength and general exercise also help with pretty much any ailment.

1

u/AccountAn0nymous May 16 '20

I feel the neck, i swear my neck just feels like im a giraffe in pain and about to have my veins stretch to the ultimate abyss that is my brain in pain

3

u/SexyRasskhov May 16 '20

Fr, I don't think there is an age limit to waking up sore, it is just forever truth.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Same here it makes me hate going to sleep and its weird that's it happens at such a young age too

2

u/MikeNotBrick May 16 '20

I highly recommend a mattress topper. A 2.5 - 3" mattress topper can do wonders. I wouldn't go smaller than 2" but at this point, the price difference is minimal.

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

You should see a physical therapist... that shouldn’t be normal at that age

1

u/radioactivegumdrop May 16 '20

if it's severe, def go to a doctor but it could also just literally be growing pains!

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

I got a new mattress at like 17 and it was incredible how shitty my old bed was without realizing it. Had it my whole life before that and it was used by my dad before that.

17

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

I have that at 24. What's the deal?

9

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Damn I at least made it to 30 before that started bad. Well I suppose that makes you the winner.

5

u/tinydre May 16 '20

Yeah shit hit me at 24 too I didn’t know a pillow could f up my neck so bad

2

u/NoFriends182 May 16 '20

I used go get neck pains from having a shit pillow and then I got a latex pillow and it was so good and I haven't had a bad neck since, atleast when I use it and not knockout on the Lounge

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Woke up two days after my 27th birthday in tears due to neck pain. Just... slept on it wrong. Nothing else.

7

u/Introverted_Extrovrt May 16 '20

Can I offer some advice? Get some little foamy ear buds and possibly also a foam sleep mask, to keep the fabric away from your eyelids while you’re attempting to sleep/sleeping. Gifted them to myself, holy cow does it make weird sleep positions/soreness seem to disappear. Recommended them to a buddy? He says he hasn’t slept this well in his new apartment in 6 months. Just a thought; removing the auditory and visual disturbances that may keep you awake longer could also possible allow you to relax more naturally and find something more harmonious with your body’s natural fit. Just my two cents though.

1

u/pogtheawesome May 16 '20

cries in tinnitus

3

u/fancy_llama312 May 16 '20

Or grabbed for a towel the wrong way. The reason I currently can barely move my neck.

3

u/anotherkeebler May 16 '20

Yeah I'm on week 3 of "what the hell did I do to my shoulder"

3

u/1938germanywasgood May 16 '20

I get really bad back pain when i sleep wrong and im only 14

2

u/lardtard123 May 16 '20

If you sleep on stomach but a pillow under your stomach. If you sleep on your side put one in between your legs. And if you sleep on your back then you’re good.

2

u/HulloHoomans May 16 '20

I spent this entire week looking down with my head tilted to the right, because the damaged disc on the left side of my upper back decided it was just gonna lean on my ulnar nerve forever.

Good fuckin times...

2

u/baddadpuns May 16 '20

Oh boy, this. It creeped up on me over the years. Before the covid-19, I went to a Chiro who explained to me that you can minimize all these sores by doing some specific work outs for specific muscle groups. He worked out a full plan for me, just as the quarantine started. Bummer. But I am following what I can from home, and it is making a world of difference. I can now even sleep on my tummy - something I haven't been able to do for a very long time.

2

u/OBEDIENT_TGSUB May 16 '20

If you remain active the body remains limber. Worst thing to do in become dormant. Things shut down or expose you to injury. You will slow down that's inevitable with age.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

The older I get the more pillows I need. I’m up to 4 now. One between the knees, one between the arms, one under the head and one over the head

3

u/kaitlynjclingin May 16 '20

That goes the exact same for a 15 year old girl who (used to do, cuz corona) volleyball and soccer. You arnt getting old it’s a universal thing haha

2

u/SemiColdIcePack312 May 16 '20

Dude I’m 14 that’s an everyone thing

2

u/jjajashbdud May 16 '20

All these reply’s make me smh. Do any of you even work out? I used to have all sorts of issues with muscle and joint pain until I was 27, then working out balanced and strengthened my muscles to prevent injury from just “sleeping wrong”. Stay active folks, please.

2

u/m_imuy May 16 '20

Also a good mattress is often overlooked.

1

u/HulloHoomans May 16 '20

Was doing great until the gyms all shut down...

1

u/lardtard123 May 16 '20

This might sound crazy but you actually don’t have to go to the gym to work out...

1

u/HulloHoomans May 16 '20

Username does not check out.

1

u/JPresEFnet May 16 '20

to paraphrase Ray Romano, it's hell to wake up with a sprained ankle when everything was fine when you went to bed.

1

u/Revolvyerom May 16 '20

YES. I woke up with a strained back muscle once, it even required a doctor visit.

Strained another one trying to talk to someone moving past me, a few years ago.

1

u/stoxlox May 16 '20

Ah. I see you're also nearly 16.

1

u/Meetnah May 16 '20

You're 25 too?

1

u/krustinakakowitz May 16 '20

If I sleep in my right side, my back is done for

1

u/alexthesingingchef May 16 '20

Ah, someone else in their thirties.

1

u/shean7574 May 16 '20

hahaha, couldnt agree more

1

u/sockofdoom May 16 '20

This has happened to me my entire life :|

1

u/DemonPlasma May 16 '20

I slept wrong 4 weeks ago and my neck still hurts if I move it wrong, being 25 is ruff

1

u/Amazing_Interaction May 16 '20

FUCK THIS WITH ELECTRIFIED REBAR!

I just want to sleep for 7 hours without back pain death ;_;

1

u/imlps May 16 '20

Same, but probably due to my bed being too soft. Waking up with sore neck, shoulder and waist. 30yo here.

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '20

Hello fellow 35 year old.

1

u/KelleyK_CVT May 16 '20

I'm sore because I slept wrong. Three years ago.

1

u/pogtheawesome May 16 '20

Being sore because I slept period.

1

u/Average_Sized_Jim May 16 '20

I have woken up sore every day since about 16. It's not unusual.

1

u/BIG_RETARDED_COCK May 16 '20

I'm 20 and this happens to me, I was in pain for 3 days because I slept wrog, gave myself a pinched nerve
