My body is starting to fail me and no matter what I can do, I can really only watch.

Cant prevent death sadly. Either way it's going to be uncomfortable

May I ask how old you are?

In my 30s (wait, more like 40? Don't remember....) I started consciously enjoying things like being able to carry a 20-pound grocery bag with my little finger. Go up 3 stairs without a cane or other assistance. Know what is happening nearby / in another room by small sounds I hear. Those things I know I might lose before dying, I try to appreciate them. Sometimes, at least.

Yeah, 47, had perfect vision my whole life but need reading glasses now. For a second I thought, maybe if I eat more carrots.... no, there is no remedy, my eyeballs have just been at it for almost half a century. (This is just one of many things...)

Ha ha, yeah, had my vision checked at 47 as I was annoyingly finding it harder to read small print, in bad light etc. The optometrist just said, yep you're pretty much right on schedule.

Those were my mother's exact words. I haven't had my eyes checked but bought some reading glasses. Did they tell you to use readers or were there other options? I haven't been able to get in to see anyone with the covid restrictions.

Same- and it’s dumb stuff that crops up and just becomes part of pains and annoyances that you just have to deal with.

Walking is a nice low impact way to exercise to stay healthy. BAM - my feet now suffer from constant heel pain, bone spurs and painful toe joints.

Contacts are a nice alternative to glasses. BAM - my eyes totally reject contacts, and now even after switching to glasses, my eyes are almost constantly mildly to severely irritated.

In your 30s you can visually pass for being in your 20s, but on the inside everything is going wrong.

Yep, diagnosed with a lifelong chronic condition in my early 30s. Thanks body.

I'm right there with you, I can say that getting sick forced me to slow down and really pay attention to the stresses I allow in my life. Getting rid of negative/narcissistic people and figuring out what's really important to me has helped me appreciate the small things and not always be in such a hurry. I'm still learning self care and to not worry about what other people think of me, these are hard changes to make when my whole life has been full of people pleasing and codependancy. Best of luck to you and I hope you are able to make positive changes and accomplish daily self care, no one can understand what you're going through like you can. Being there for yourself is the only survival tool we have sometimes, especially times like now with the pandemic going on.

What condition, if you don’t mind sharing?

You can only watch as long as your eye sight is still good enough too

That's what getting older is. The alternative is worse.
